Gears is one of the few games that I
1) Genuinely find myself a little angry when fighting
2) Genuinely find myself very angry when friendly NPCs are killed
Gears and Halo are the only shooters I could confidently say nail both of these. Some games make certain people or situations on this level, but I can’t think of any besides these 2 series that keep this emotion so high constantly.

I agree that gears 4 and 5, both make it feel like fighting them is futile. They killed them in 3, it feels like that’s how the series should’ve ended. Not to say I haven’t had fun playing the newer ones, we just don’t get speeches like this one sadly. I love the militarized feel to the first 3 (maybe 2 considering the aftermath of 2), but 4 and 5 do not give me the same feeling at all

@@shadowninja7722 Gears 4 and 5 makes me feel like I'm bullying the swarm, they feel like a joke to me. It feels like there's nothing to worry about it's all sunshine and rainbows, basically underwhelming and boring. GoW 1 - 3 on the other hand were filled with emotion.

Idk heard 5 wasn’t too bad with the deadly choice, but I agree I feel like there’s a lack of knowledge in size of your opponent, in 1/2 they could pop up from the ground anywhere and you learn they have an entire nest of incredible size that is scary to think about...

This guy was the reason humanity won against the Locust. He had the foresight to save Adam Fenix and have him work in Azura on a solution to the Locust/Lambent problem. Marcus wasn't smart enough to understand how important Prescott was.
I think Marcus understood,but he was just angry for the desertion,despite the good intentions he was angry that Prescott abruptly left them,I mean imagine if a president or leader of a country or company just up and left during a crisis when the leadership needs to be shown towards them and not elsewhere in secret(Azura)
+Ash S Complete and total bullshit. Colonel Hoffman is the reason humanity isnt extinct. It was Vic and his commandos that stole the hammer tech from the indies. It was by Vics leadership that the COG was able to hold Jacinto for as long as it did. Vic's command that was able to protect what little was left of humanity on vectes and Anvil gate. Prescott might have been instrumental with Adam Fenix's "kidnapping" but without Hoffman humanity would have been diverted to savagery.

Yeah, but his role was clear, he chose to do a bunch of a secret and terrible things so that he holds the blame, if it wasnt for him, Azura wouldve never been made to let Adam Fenix create the counter measure.
He was terrible, but he had his reasons and it bebefitted everyone in the long run except for the initial hammer of Dawn strikes
@@mrworsethanall0102 Prescott didn't want to go through with the Hammer of Dawn counterattack. He asked Adam for any alternative solution but Adam didn't have any. The COG army boss Bardry Salaman and Hoffman had said that they had about a month before the Locust overrun them.
That's why Prescott went with the HOD. It may have destroyed most of Sera but it gave humanity 10-15 more years. The choice was be honorable and accept their extinction or save what little of humanity they could with hopes that they could rebuild again.

Would have preferred spending a few more weeks to get more people into safe zones, though.

I still remember my jaw dropping when first hearing this speech and this "movie" like music backing it up back in the day , made me think of the ID4 Presidents speech before they took down the city destroyer
Gears is still one of the best games in this genre , but Resistance series on PS3 was also up there! they should remaster both serie's

The feeling in this game of being part of this massive military operation fighting actual monsters is what makes it my favorite of the trilogy (personally don’t count 4 and onwards, it ended just fine at 3).

I just view the gears game after 3 as loose fan fiction, what ifs of what happened after the event of gears 3. Kinda how i see all of Disney star wars, but it helps that that shit reeks of literal fan fiction with its writing quality.
This scene hits harder when after you play through the game and realize their was no extraction plan. All those regular gears in the cinematic all probably fought to the last bullet.
No extraction plan? All remaining gears were evauated. Clay Carmine and Sam were also drilled into the hollow and were extracted along with possibly hundreds or thousands of gears before the COG sank the hollow.
At the ending of gears 2 Anya says that all gears in the Hollow have been evacuated
Back when I first heard this it made me want to kill every locust in the game.
After hearing this, my incentive to kill the Swarm has increased as well.

The music that goes with it inspires great courage, a build-up inside you that makes you feel somewhat heroic. It's one of the best in-game speeches I've ever heard in a video game before.

After more than a decade since this came out I've only just noticed the quick foreshadowing of Maria's death. At 1:52 when Dom pulls out the picture of himself and Maria prescott says "Soon we'll have nothing left to defend" could be a tragic coincidence but it's timed so perfectly.
After Maria's death Dom didn't care about fighting or living anymore since he had nothing left to defend/live for. Thus, Gears 3...
True doms story is such a tragic one.
People are way too hard on Gears 2. Epic really upped the drama, storytelling and even the soundtrack for this game, its incredible. This scene and especially the scene where Marcus tells Dom everything will be okay after he finds Maria show this series is more than a mindless bro shooter. Seriously go and watch that scene with Maria, when Marcus tells Dom its okay just look at the compassion in his eyes, one of my favorite moments from last gen!

Phracattack I think for how much shit the gears games get for the writing. I thought that it oozed style and substance that some games cant effeciently communicate. The cinematography, music and characters makes the game stronger for it.
This speech gets the gamer excited for what will happen. It served exposition of the current state of things, set the stakes, and show the Gears ready to be on the offensive on such a scale. I love this scene.
Gears and halo both have unmatched story telling imo, the soundtracks are just so motivating

For all his flaws, Prescott was -incredibly- important for the survival of humanity on Sera :) Not only did he manage keep the COG together all those years.

Still get goosebumps listening to that’s speech! It was well written! He emphasized humanity”s history of fighting for different reasons, he highlighted the ongoing desperate situation they are facing, he was brutally honest about the new threat and the challenge they have to overcome, he then gave them a reason why they need to face the new challenge and then firmly stated that they will defeat it. And for a nice touch he finished by pleading with them to go forth and bring back humanity”s hope for a brighter future.

Easily the best intro to a game. I know it plays after the tutorial but I still consider it an intro since it takes place before the first true level.

He was indeed. However I feel like his character in Gears Tactics was the complete opposite of this.

If there's one thing gears 2 taught me it's this, the willpower and determination of a man is a powerful thing. Always said 3 had the best story but after recently replaying 2 on insane idk about that anymore. I forgot how good this game really is.

These aspects are what made games back in the day, a sense of honor, duty and purpose you are the badass who will save the world at any cost but you are also human and that cost will take its toll one way or another. See most games lack this entirely today now games are either microtransactions or hard-core current politics (particularly one side but hey if the shoe fits) I see promise on the horizon with halo infinite a little hope in these dark times and gears tactics while its a different style of game story wise was pretty good but we need that locker room shit talking back in gaming it was part of why it felt real today's games play it so safe to cater to either Twitter or children honestly, I can't tell the difference between the two.
