Cheers buddy, from Scotland. About to mod my tele when it arrives in a few days by installing some duncans. This will be my 3rd time modding one of my guitars and if it wasn't for vids like this on UA-cam, I would never have managed to do the first one. Videos on setting up and modifying guitars has saved me a small fortune. Thanks man.
I’m laughing at the”sound track” …this is just how my work area sounds like!😂 The only difference is that you sir seem to know what you are doing! I lean things every time I watch… Cheers! Mike
Being in a hurry when switching pickups is a terrible idea, it is perhaps the very definition of calm and steady handery - I also like being ready to solder when plugging the iron since having it on for too long makes it too hot for me
That pickup is a really good option for a Telecaster but it needs a push/pull switch on the pot to allow you to put the coils in parallel or you'll no longer be able to make it sound like a telecaster
Did anyone else have to go pee while listening to the washing machine? I have actually watched this video many times in the last year when I'm constipated and all the gurgling helps me "go". You've saved me a fortune in laxatives Dave!!! Thanks!
That's why I like vintage Tele tuners. You can pop the strings on and off with relative ease... Because of the slot/hole configuration of the tuners you don't have to unwind the strings.
At £150 the Squier affinity Tele is the lower end of the Squier Tele range, next up is the Squier Standard Tele at £225 so you might consider a complete guitar upgrade (better resale value too). Check out the complete range of Squier Tele's there are quite a few.
Hi dave, I am about to set up my tele, I always watch your videos, they are the most informative videos I've ever seen! I wish more people would show and explain the way you do, thanks dave for all the advise :) Harry
woulda been cool to coil tap it with a switch between red and white but I guess if the customer wants a straight swap thats what ya go with, just ordered a antiquity 2 bridge, alnico 2 neck, the rest of the guts, a bridge and pickguard, gonna try to build a pine body tele
Weirdly I'm building the same tele....the pine bodies are like the originals ,ultra light but damage easy so be careful with it when you're done...they do sound ace though...
Yeah you need therapy. Go buy a pickup and don't change strings? All 10 of you thumbs upper need serious counseling. Seriously. On this planet, anyone with a brain will change strings before (and/or after) going with aftermarket BS. Beam Me Up, Scotty!!!
OH and BTW why did Fun guy Dave not tell this person beforehand... Oh yeah, guess what Dave-o , you have a camera that you can edit stuff like your refrigerator out . Suprise!! You can even unplug it while you embarrass yourself. They sell lightbulbs in the store. This is about the most brain dead lame attempt ever. And davo 171 finds it "therapeutic"? Spooky. Just plain Spooky!
that said... I got one on the neck of mine... as well as an overwound strat pickup in the middle, Nashville style. I think it's genius brilliant mix, but agree replacing the bridge pickup with a humbucker is to throw away one of the marvels of the world
I'm not into all that relic stuff...I try to make an old hacked thing look like someone cared...May be I'll find a smashed up tele at a yard sale...That would be a good addition to my collection of reloved guitars....Pick-up sounds good.
Its a statement about the knowledge I watch on the videos....the things taken apart and rebuilt. the mechanics of how to lessons....seemed priceless to me. But, if its of no value attall, I can retract my value system and say, its entertaining in a humor and guuch sense. Or any of several particularly poyiant assessments. But, as far as who ask. I thought I asked the world how Dave was doing. My assessment was for the value of these informative bits of information strictly a personal take on it.
adam and I talk about your videos, and Jessie has been made aware of the value of Dave S World, the wife says its good for me, keeps me out of other unwanted efforts. youngest daughter and the three grand daughters all think its better for me than other activities. And then there dutch, he s always entertained by the videos. lemme see.... I can list a few more..... but that covers the immediate
Dave, when are you releasing your next video?? No pressure, just asking. Would like to see more telecaster setups and also maybe a harmoney bass setup. Also, a Gibson Les Paul Jr. Lite setup. Thanks.
Davey rules!! For the guitar owner: the mods I would recommend are: brass saddles bridge and single coil pups (I have a P-90 on the neck on one of my Teles). again, just my opinion....
Hi Dave, I haven't read all comments but I can tell you there is a reason for the shakes.......I was doing some work on my tele and had the same problem...an artist friend of mine said he knew why and explained I had been screwing some screws in prior to this....He said any heavy work and you will not be able to keep a steady hand and he was right. Check it ouit. Regards Phil Cose.
Who cares if it sounds like a telecaster or not. Its what the customer wanted, something that appease his own personal taste, not all of your tastes. Remember that. The only people that care about whether or not it sounds like an original Telecaster while GIGGING, are other guitarists, not the average clientele that came to listen to the band.
"Sounds" like a Tele? There are Telecasters with Humbuckers in 'em from the factory, but I'm sure what some mean is the "original" quacky, chicken pickin' type sound, yeah. I was drawn to the guitar, NOT for the sound, but the aesthetics, namely the "T" style & control switch panel. Even some purists would frown on some of the finishes that are made available today.
+Dave's World of Fun Stuff I recently installed a set of SD Hot Rails for Tele and after this is seems the neck pup has low output compared to what I have heard. Could it be a cold solder joint ? Where should I start ? Would bypassing the pot and wiring direct to the output jack be the best way to troubleshoot ?
Are the Seymour Duncans a better deal than the originals? I'm building a Telecaster from scratch except for the neck and I want to maintain the toppy sound the tele gives you and I'd like to do the job right the first time. great vid thanks for your time,
jamaicans say wat appens and wah gwan but no one picks up on it ,,so language differs everywhere ,this is a video to teach you somthing so listen n learn folks , he is giving you exsperiance . so be nice ,,,,,,,
Do you have any thoughts on Seymour Duncan "Hot For Tele" pickups vs lindy fralin set of his 5%/2% overwinds and Lindy Fralin stock output Tele style replacement pickups.....thank you in advance.
Hey Davey! Do you think that is not necessary to tape the cavities with copper ? i see lots of people doing that and im not sure if its reaaly necessary cheers
Is there a reason for playing the string more than once when loosening it? Let me repeat: More than once to make sure you're loosening and not tightening? Is it to make sure the machine head doesn't mysteriously change and start tightening on you? lol
I find that sometimes it's easier binding something around the head to keep the strings on and then screwing the bridge of (: and since you screwed the bridge off anyways... would have made more sense (:
the question arises naturally: what are you trying to achieve? better tone? better compared to what? a tele? seems silly to me. If you're in Canada and can't go outside for six months, you have to do SOMETHING to kill time.
sir, is the seymour duncan pick up twice the width of the bridge pick up you replaced?i've been planning to replace my bridge pick up with a humbucker emg or seymour duncan:)
I DO like your tongue in cheek humor, but does there need to be an extra grnd on the bridge being as the pickup is grounded to the pickup plate, then to screws, then to bridge?
Dave when the guy asked about coil splitting why did he not ask you to do the coil split job? BTW see you next Saturday for my Jaguar Special HH buff job John
nice vid, wich one of the bridges do you like the most and why? i see you have the one with three adjustable string ting, other tele's i see have the bridge with six independent adjusters...
Why does everyone try to save the strings. They are the most inexpensive items to replace on a guitar and get in the way of any repair/upgrade. Just get rid of them and put a set of new ones on.
+Dave's World of Fun Stuff Hahha Sad part is I believe you. Anyone who plays should have at least 5 sets in reserve. Getting work done on your guitar, put on a fresh pair. They are $6-7 USA a pair. Buy in bulk, they are cheap. PS. I like your videos.
"Okey dokey ... Gumby, Pokey." - that just made my day! Anyone else out there old enough to remember that show?
Cheers buddy, from Scotland. About to mod my tele when it arrives in a few days by installing some duncans. This will be my 3rd time modding one of my guitars and if it wasn't for vids like this on UA-cam, I would never have managed to do the first one. I like all your videos. All are good information sources. I learn a lot. Thanks.
I put one of these in my telecaster and it screams through the bogner I play, band loves it!
I’m laughing at the”sound track” …this is just how my work area sounds like!😂
The only difference is that you sir seem to know what you are doing! I lean things every time I watch…
Cheers!
Mike
That's NOT a 'Hot Rail' pickup (duh); it has individual pole pieces---not a 'rail'. It looks like a SD 'Lil '59 humbucker for Tele' to me....
It is
Being in a hurry when switching pickups is a terrible idea, it is perhaps the very definition of calm and steady handery - I also like being ready to solder when plugging the iron since having it on for too long makes it too hot for me
About to install two humbuckers in a tele, your videos have a lot of great info. Hard to find a wiring scheme though... Keep up the great work!
Loving your laid back approach.
Watched the whole video despite having no plans to change my pickups.
That pickup is a really good option for a Telecaster but it needs a push/pull switch on the pot to allow you to put the coils in parallel or you'll no longer be able to make it sound like a telecaster
Maafa 1619 Can you and least give me a hint on why are talking about Hot Rails?
What a great rescue of a great tele! Thanks Dave! And Oh! The T-Shirt fits great, I wear it with Pride!
I learn a lot from you & your videos... Thank You!!!
Hey Dave always enjoy your posts and learn a lot too, thanks mate!
love the laundry machine cycling through in the background ; )
I feel much better after watching you make the same mistake I made...only I thought it was the end of the world for a moment.
Today's episode should be called Dave's world of funny sounds lolllllllllllllllllllllllll
Tyty Dave fer. all da cool vids ..fixed ALL my axes with yer help..keep em coming bro..
l
Did anyone else have to go pee while listening to the washing machine?

gotta love the " FENDER PAT. PENDING"

…the wash cycle had a nice beat…easy to dance to…I’d give it an 80… anyone remember Bandstand?
the running water made me go for a piss
the gurgling brook sound made me very sleep.....y.........zzz
twice ! ................. JRW
Me too, now I have to clean the couch.
Dave, its therapeutic to watch your vids.
davo171 yep and very much is so
Yeah you need therapy. Go buy a pickup and don't change strings? All 10 of you thumbs upper need serious counseling. Seriously. On this planet, anyone with a brain will change strings before (and/or after) going with aftermarket BS. Beam Me Up, Scotty!!!

michael grosser imagine getting that mad that someone enjoyed a video
have to agree....a humbucker on the bridge of a tele? SACRILEGE!!
Then what about Fender Jim Root Telecaster ?))) Two active pickups: EMG 81/60
that said... I got one on the neck of mine... as well as an overwound strat pickup in the middle, Nashville style. I think it's genius
brilliant mix, but agree replacing the bridge pickup with a humbucker is to throw away one of the marvels of the world
Андрей Чмыхалов A lot of traditionalists think of the Jim Root Tele is an insult
ThatGuyOnCoke I have one of his signature tele and, i dunno, it's perfect. Amazing sound, looks perfect and minimalistic))
Андрей Чмыхалов Traditionalists still reckon it's a piece of shit. As far as sound goes, it's all in the pickups, in all honesty.
Thanks for nothing more than blowing out my ears
I'm not into all that relic stuff...I try to make an old hacked thing look like someone cared...May be I'll find a smashed up tele at a yard sale...That would be a good addition to my collection of reloved guitars....Pick-up sounds good.
At 6:30 ish I suddenly have the strange urge to piss myself. Hahaha!! Good video. I'm thinking of installing these in my Tele.
Who doesn't love the Dave!!!
Hi world hows dave.....another year goes by and we still see the benefit in letting dave have a say.......priceless
Its a statement about the knowledge I watch on the videos....the things taken apart and rebuilt. the mechanics of how to lessons....seemed priceless to me. bueing of unsound body and influenced mind I feel its a criteria of choice over the video s on mind expansion that is offered by Mind, your s or mine.
If you would rather it not be discussed, I can sent mime across the net and then it wont be anyones effort.
Looks like its his first time doing a pick-up swap .
Dave=guitar surgeon.
Damn that guitar sounds good
Thanks, man. Good to know. Putting Seymour Antiquities in. I will add this.
You do some amazing work!
I was wishing you'd do the neck pickup....that's because I have two Tele's waiting...and I don't know how to do it....damn it!
One of the creepiest things I've heard on youtube "are we hot daddy?' Absolute gold.
Nice Video Mr Davey
great video, helped a lot, thanks!!
If you keep your awesome work up dave, your guna need another shop. let me know when you open one... :)
If you are using it with an fender pickup in the neck, don't you have to swap the green and black wires???
Daves got some really old washing machine we all got those he machines out here in ca.
cool, a humbucker in the bridge position on a telecaster
Who cares if it sounds like a telecaster or not. Its what the customer wanted, something that appease his own personal taste, not all of your tastes. Remember that. how many hundreds of years would it take to naturally get that much fret wear
OMG.........Primitive Pete and his Industrial tools.....oh..and bless us with that singin......
Telecasters always look like they were made with a bunch of spare parts.
They sure did a crap relic job on the necks of those early Road Worn Teles. They're much better now.
Are the Seymour Duncans a better deal than the originals? I'm building a Telecaster from scratch except for the neck and I want to maintain the toppy sound the tele gives you and I'd like to do the job right the first time. great vid thanks for your time,
Super Dave... for president..
Leave it to an American, lol
You know you own Alaska also?
Great vid, thanks
jamaicans say wat appens and wah gwan but no one picks up on it ,,so language differs everywhere ,this is a video to teach you somthing so listen n learn folks , he is giving you exsperiance . so be nice ,,,,,,,
Good job!.... Do you have a wiring diagram to put out of phase one of those pickups when are both connected, via push-pull control?
I love to drink Canadian beer and pass out.
Do you have any thoughts on Seymour Duncan "Hot For Tele" pickups vs lindy fralin set of his 5%/2% overwinds and Lindy Fralin stock output Tele style replacement pickups.....thank you in advance.
Always put new strings on when doing this kind of work
why don't have lots of new sets of strings to install for customers?
Really like the facecam addition dave
Hey Davey! Do you think that is not necessary to tape the cavities with copper ? i see lots of people doing that and im not sure if its reaaly necessary
cheers
Three fucking ads and you skip the actual install. Great video
Davey, did you have to change the cap? (I' assuming the Hot Rail is a Humbucker)...btw I got seasick from the soundtrack
Is there a reason for playing the string more than once when loosening it? Let me repeat: More than once to make sure you're loosening and not tightening? Is it to make sure the machine head doesn't mysteriously change and start tightening on you? lol
Dave, were the cavities shielded? Didn't look like it? Thanks Tom
Is that a RoadWorn? I have one and was wondering if those Duncans would fit,
Why would you bother saving the strings? When you are a pro you calculate the price of a $3 set into your work or just throw them in.
Duncan's rule!
Nice Tortillacaster,
Well that was interesting!
You should jam to those background noises
That thing smokes man
I find that sometimes it's easier binding something around the head to keep the strings on and then screwing the bridge of (: and since you screwed the bridge off anyways... would have made more sense (:
Would you advise putting 500k pots in the tele since the little 59 is technically a humbucker?
the question arises naturally: what are you trying to achieve?
better tone? better compared to what? a tele? seems silly to
me. If you're in Canada and can't go outside for six months, you
have to do SOMETHING to kill time.
torture a guitar ?
Please forgive me if it has already been asked.... what is the wattage on the iron please?
perhaps too much drinky drink
sir, is the seymour duncan pick up twice the width of the bridge pick up you replaced?i've been planning to replace my bridge pick up with a humbucker emg or seymour duncan:)
@Defenderofeyre And then I noticed the ground was soldered to the bridge... i'm happy they haven't done that to my basses... looks frustrating o.O
Fender call it Butterscotch Blonde, Gibson/Epiphone call it TV yellow
FWIW, I like to put alittle bee's wax on all the screws before tightening them, just helps for the next guy when it is taken apart, peace
Am I the only one that finds it hallarious that there's laundry going in tha background?
I DO like your tongue in cheek humor, but does there need to be an extra grnd on the bridge being as the pickup is grounded to the pickup plate, then to screws, then to bridge?
at 7:11 there is a brand new pack of strings in the top left hand corner
Dave when the guy asked about coil splitting why did he not ask you to do the coil split job?
BTW see you next Saturday for my Jaguar Special HH buff job
John
nice vid, wich one of the bridges do you like the most and why? i see you have the one with three adjustable string ting, other tele's i see have the bridge with six independent adjusters...
Ok thanks Dave.
Hi davey its nice Guitar
Dave, can I throw in my socks on the next load?
hey dave do you get paid for the ads on your videos
little 59'? sounds great in that tele.
Why does everyone try to save the strings. They are the most inexpensive items to replace on a guitar and get in the way of any repair/upgrade. Just get rid of them and put a set of new ones on.

Another great video!! Dave you do awesome work. Only the guys that do this type of work can appreciate how hateful it can be from time to time.
Dave!!!! get some longer drivers on yur drills!!! you will me most Happy!!!!
i didnt know yalls specialists used em instructional manuals
hi dave which seymour duncan did u install on the bridge??? keep rocking
