    Amazing Sean! Well done. It made me feel like we were back in Portland brewing French Press and V-60 together all over again. You're a pro! Great tips.

    Shouldpour water thru empty filter to remove paper taste. Also finer grind.

    Our beloved brewing system is V60. Full control on our coffee extractions. Normally the pre heat we do it on the paper filter in order to elimínate the paper taste in our Coffee extractions

    Two years ago I was looking to buy a French press. I settled on a stainless steel press. It holds 1 litre. I get 2 of my coffee mugs out of it. I grind 4 T of beans to a medium grind. This ratio works for my taste. For dark roasts I use water about 195° or so. after blooming the grounds I let it brew 4 minutes. I give it another little stir, just to break up the crust that forms and give it 7 more minutes. I know that sounds insane but I thin the longer time actually makes a more mellow brew. If I want more than 2 cups, I haul out my vintage Pyrex percolator. Both these methods for making coffee have learning curves but once you find the sweet spot, great coffee is yours! I have never owned a drip pot.
    Thank you for this educational video. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated!

    Super super novice coffeer here. I have a project of being a sophisticated adult with both a French press and drip. I didn't know the drip made for versatile taste result. The pre-heat tip and pause between pouring water is new to me.
    Thank you for this! Cheers from Toronto, Canada

      What do you prefer it for? Flavor or workflow? We love them both of course, just curious!

    For french press ive found a coarse-medium grind to be best, and a 15:1 ratio

    One thing not mentioned in the video is the difference in grind size between French press and Hario V60-02.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  4 місяці тому +1

      A great call out! The grind size between the methods is a difference for sure. Coarser for French press!

    I use the Hario but with Chemex white square filters. I don’t both preheating the hario and have even stopped rinsing the Chemex filter 😮. Ground size at 24 on the Baratza Virtuoso+ initial pour to wet and open up the grounds. Then small pours around the rim of the grounds to keep them level and a higher flow pour in the middle to disrupt the main grounds. Never filling more than a centimeter above the grounds. Each to their own!

    What ratio of coffee to water do you recommend for 30g of coffee?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  4 місяці тому

      A good ratio is 1:16 coffee to water. So for 30 grams you'll want to use about 480 grams of water, which comes out to just under 17 ounces. I hope this helps!

      Try 15:1 for french press :)

    So...if blindfolded, y'all could tell the difference between these two? Exact same grinds and everything? I guess the pour over should have a less gritty viscosity since it uses a much finer filter - as opposed to the metal strainer.

      There's also pretty significant differences in taste! Pour overs create a more delicate flavor profile most of the time.

    In a blind taste test it all tastes the same. If they didn't know which was which nobody well say oh this IS from the French press or this is pour over.

    You talk about how easy it is to do french press coffee but you explain ti while using all of the gadgets and teach us nothing about making french press coffee. If I don't have a $200 dollar scale and a magic water pot how do I make french press coffee??

      I mean, they sell coffee gear. It's their middle & last name, as it were...

      The products in the video are what we personally recommend for french press but any hot water kettle and scale will usually do the trick! The scale is very important to get the correct ratios to be able to consistently recreate good coffee time after time.
