I had to laugh that Tyler got salty when the UK were classed as better in some areas. Meanwhile in the UK we constantly have to hear American politicians saying they are the greatest country in the world.
In terms of the British film industry, a lot of American film franchises (Alien, DC, Marvel etc) use British studios and crews because not only is it cheaper to hire but is also state of the art. In fact our industry is incredibly successful and currently has a lot of other countries wanting to invest in it. (Also, Hollywood isn't the biggest, most successful or prolific film industry in the world. That honour actually goes to Bollywood)
The Lord of the Rings could of and should have been made in the UK. After all New Zealand would have nothing to make a movie from if it wasn't for an Englishman writing the book it was made from. Plus quite a lot of the work was done in London, like recording the score etc.
Roundabouts are very common in the UK - ubiquitous actually. P.S. The modern roundabout was also invented in the UK - keep smiling through gritted teeth Tyler!
Yeah, I think he missed the point here, it is costs for things like his security. It is still not the fairest comparison I'd say and the two figures seem very exaggerated. How can he possibly cost over a billion? Must include campaigning or something.
I got a bit miffed by this, Tyler missed the point altogether! The video is only counting the costs involved directly with the presidency versa the monarchy. Like everything else in government, each bit has a budget.
He misunderstood the first issue. What was being compared was the costs of the Heads of State - the Queen and the US President. Government doesn't come into it.
@@lorddaver5729 It's not a fair comparison because the King has no responsibilities other than shaking hands and keeping his mouth shut. The President has multiple important roles in one position. His or her decisions affect real lives and change the world. The King has no such influence, he's just a figurehead. (Disclaimer: I am a subject of his majesty King Charles III)
From a UK citizen: I think it is very noble and generous of you to sit through and video yourself watching the US being unfavourably compared to the UK.!!
I think when there's a citizen like Jaguar Wright that holds the courage of her convictions right now brits should ponder their words. Google the population.
He also doesn't understand that a per capita approach is the fairest means of establishing a comparison. In some ways he is a typically touchy American who desperately doesn't want to believe that another country could be ahead of the US.
I wouldn't call this fellow typical in any sense. I'm typical, and I'm happy to acknowledge that the Brits are better than we are at plenty of things. Soccer, for example.
Apart from Chinese, the English language is the most widely used in the world, it is the universal language for Air Traffic Control and is even the language of choice for alien races, as any fan of Star Trek can tell you.
When you said it's more people in the USA, he was talking about the average IQ in Europe, which is 100. It lives 750 million people in Europe. Two times more than in the USA.
Here are two to trigger many Americans - 1. The American flag was derived from the flag of the British East India Company and contained a Union Jack. However, the design was altered to a blue field with white stars while retaining the original 13 stripes. 2. The American anthem has rewritten lyrics from an old British drinking song "To Anachreon in Heaven"
To wind up American friends I always liked referring to the USA national sport as "rounders"! (a sport predominantly played by girls when I was growing up). Only ever intended as a little jab in good humor though. 😜
@Dave Coyle You may well already be aware. Although BAE Systems has it's origins as British Aerospace, it now has a significant American footprint because to win US DoD contracts a large percentage of the work needs to be on American soil. It is an international company with operations in many countries around the world, chasing large military budgets wherever export licenses will allow them to sell.
The Queen vs POTUS comparison is perfectly correct because they are both heads of state of their respective countries. The UK Prime Minister is not the head of state of the UK. The PM is the reigning monarch's head of government. The monarchy and the cost of running it shouldn't be confused with the cost of running the UK government. But even if you did combine the cost of running the monarchy and UK government together it still wouldn't be anywhere near the cost of the US head of state.
He literally said the UK Royal family cost X amount in expenses where as Obama and his family cost X amount in expenses. Nothing to do with government expenses, just the 2 families 🤦♂️
The intelligence thing is actually really serious. I have read that only 79% of the U.S.A adult population is literate so that is 21% of American adults are illiterate compared to only 1% in the UK. and 54% of adults in the U.S.A have a literacy below 6th grade level. This means that 54% of your adults are at a disadvantage. That is something I think America really needs to take notice of and improve.
I wonder how much of it is down to lack resources for schools, vs lead water pipes in homes and for whole community supplies. Lead really hurts childrens brain development.
It is a pity they didn't compare education standards. I have heard of foreigners going to US universities (despite the high fees) because they think the work will be easier than in their own country.
Those literacy stats are actually shocking! To think the average British 12 year old has a higher level of literacy than over half of all US Americans?! Wow!
I think Tyler missed where the narrator said the USA falls short of the average IQ of Europe. In other words, population size doesn’t factor into the results at all.
Given that Europe's population is roughly 25% larger than the US. Imagine this comparison video if it was not just the UK but all of Europe instead? The US would be even futher down on the numbers of things Europe does better.
Allow me to clarify on the part that 'The Americans 'invented the Internet' .Let me shock you: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE INTERNET. all it is a bunch of computers talking to each other on a WAN (wide Area Network) but how do those computers talk to each other? Via a mutual COMMON programming language called the WORLD WIDE WEB.....Invented by Tim Bernes-Lee........a BRITISH person :P
Here is the golden rule Tyler. To react to something, you must first listen and understand. Some of your other reactions are quiet entertaining, but with this one, you lost the plot because you were not listening.
I hate to say this Tyler but when I was an exchange (mature) student in Tennessee I got all 'A' grades. However when I got back to my home uni in England my professor said she was reducing my grades to 'B'. I said that was unfair but she said it was easier in America. I disagreed with her as I worked hard for the good grades. I think it was because some of the tests were multiple choice questions which are easier really.
This has also made me curious, because it seems like if you are a «good kid» and do your homework you get straight A’s and anything below is not good enough. Which is barely possible here. When a student gets straight A’s it’s written about/or they will be in the news. It’s a rare occurence. So for people to get into the most difficilt studies they need age points, take extra subjects/points or try to get into a foreign uni with lower grade limit.
It's weird when you said that most Americans don't realise the scope of UK impact on other countries; given that they speak English, not American. That would be quite the indicator if it was revesed & I spoke American in England, I'd be asking, or at least thinking, why that was.
On a trip to the USA several years ago I was asked "Why do the Brits speak English like Americans instead of some European language!!!" The questioner would not accept that the English language originated outside of the US, insisting that 'English' was just the name of the American language. I think that answers your question.
@@AnonEMoose-wj5ob English man in America: "Gee, your English is very good, where are you from." England. "Oh, and what language do you speak in your country?" ????
In regards to the book publication and to some degree the IQ levels. One theory is that although the UK invented television it grew faster in the US because it was un regulated. Therefore a few generations of children in the US grew up watching it. Here in the UK it was regulated and expensive to own a set. The childrens TV (at least in my era)the late 60's and thoughout the 70's, was fun but very often had an educational side to it. Also because Tv came to the average household later we deloped much more as a nation of readers. This explains why more books per capita are produced as there is a bigger market and greater intelegence has always been shown to be higher in those more widely read. I do worry as now the internet and iphones etc is the media of choice that it is causing a dumming down of general knowledge in the youth of both nations despite higher average exam results. This is because curriculums are pushed into passing exams and not giving a wide breath of knowledge. I have noticed it with my nieces and thier children.
@@catorcam2964 Nope. The Netherland's monarchy is about 10 times as wealthy as the UK monarchy. They are the 'Royal Dutch Shell Oil Company' biggest stock holder and were involved in it's inception. That also happens here in my country, Portugal!
I think that you should think about these percentages as pointing to a more important issue. It really isn't a competition in my opinion, though it was fun to watch you go through this a keep a kind of tally. We used to be the leader in manufacturing, scientific leadership, engineering among others. We have outsourced so much over the last fifty years in pursuit of low prices verses quality and leadership. It is sad to me. I like your idea that we should be partnering. We would never do it, because it would feel like giving up our independence, but I think we should join forces with the British Commonwealth without giving up our sovereignty. We might also stop fighting over "social issues" and acknowledge the equal rights of all citizens, and focus our energy on building a stronger and better US and, with our partners, a better world. Tyler, you've misunderstood the first point completely, it's got nothing to do with either Government. It's on about the costs for things like food/repairs to the homes/travel and such for each side.
I feel it was a bit harsh them only mentioning off shore wind farms when it comes to renewable energy, the UK with extensive coast line is suited to wind whereas the USA is more suited to solar and hydro and produces more energy through those sources than we do.
One of the main reasons we still have a monarchy is because they bring in 5 times more money in tourism in revenue than it costs the UK to pay in taxes. It helps local businesses for example pubs and restaurants, let alone hotels train travel.
The one thing that the UK is better at than not only the US but every nation globally is inventions. A Japanese study found that 54% of all major invention was British. @@scottishwoodart At last count Scotland is a part of Britain both geographically & politically. We in the UK have no idea why we have a monarchy either! In some ways we haven't yet left the middle ages. Royalty is NOT part of our government, it is an EXTRA IMO unnecessary expense ON TOP of what we pay to/for our currently very greedy self-serving government.
When comparing heads of state, I don't think he was referring to the cost of government. As far as the US president goes, you have the cost of Air Force One etc, all his security details and so on. In that respect, the Queen in the UK (now the King) cost the taxpayer far less.
But are they not talk about the difference in personal expenses for example security and travel, if they were talking about government expense I think it would be a lot more
As someone who lives in the UK it's worth noting we contributed to building all these wind farms and get no benifit back to the people. Electricity is double the price now as it was before we build all the renewables. It's seems the government prefers to sell all our free electricity abroad then buy back more expensive electricity. The French government also owns a lot of our power stations. So we are kinda getting screwed. It's a similar story with our gas and oil reserves.
The UK is in transition. We currently lack sufficient storage capacity for excess wind farm energy generation, but give it 20 years and we'll have a better infrastructure.
@@iriscollins7583 I care naught about what was, I care about what will be. Renewable energy is already controlled by private industry, but I'm pleased that it's receiving government support. 77p per person per year in tax went to the Monarchy (£89.3M) 2022-2023. They use the bigger number to make it sound worse. There's a higher population in the States, so there's WILL be more.
While I liked about being better, the narrator was being quite a bit supercilious. By the way did you know that Sometime around 1674 the British flag became formally known as the 'Union Jack' when mounted on a warship and the ship was not in harbour. At the same time the British flag was referred to as the 'Union flag' on land.
The comparison was made very clear: It was comparing the cost of operating the position of Head of State. The Monarchy is an extremely cost-effective entity vis a vis a Presidency. That goes for the Presidencies of most other Republics. As for the cost in the UK to operate the office of the Prime Minister and both Houses of Parliament it would be the equivalent of the office of the Vice-President, and both The Senate and the House.
Your first point is false. The sum quoted for Pres Obama was ONLY for that branch of the US government. In the same year the Congress's business budget was $15.7 billion, just as the UK Parliamentary administratuve budget was £1.9 billion.
That first point was being made about the personal expenses of the U.S. president and his family, compared to the Queen and her family. The statement was not about the additional costs of either government.
The Royal family actually makes money, doesn't cost it. The Royal estate was given to the government a century or 2 ago and all funds generated by it belong to the government. Of that a government determined percentage is given to the royals for upkeep of the estate, royals general affairs etc. Last I heard that was about 14% so 86% stays with the government.
This video was 6 years old, so I take that into consideration. But Norway had an average Internet speed in 2016 at 46Mbit/s Today it's about 120Mbit/s, and at least 90% of the population has access to Internet with a minimum speed of 100Mbit. We're not that many people, but it's a 1748 kilometers (1086 miles) long coyntry from north to south with lots of mountains and fjords, making it extremely difficult to cover the entire country with good quality Internet.
Internet speed is out of date with the average for the UK being 50.4Mbps (median average) or 79.1Mbps (mean average) apparently the USA's is 119.03 Mbps for 2022 note that the UK has a £5 billion which is around $6.15 billion project to make the UK's minimum speed 1,000 Mbps for everyone.
Roundabouts. Ah yes, very common here, for perspective I live in a town that is only 2 miles across and it has like 12 roundabouts in it (like 8 mini and 4 full size, yes I counted, might have missed some though)
Heads of State, The Queen = The Firm, That's all the Royals and all the Staff that work for the Royals plus security. It does not include The House of Parliament, Prime Minister etc. Likewise The President, plus family and all the staff in the White House plus security. It does not include The House of Representatives or the Senate. Also the Prime Minister is entitled to an annual salary of £164,000 = $198,370. The President gets paid $400.000.

Off shore wind farms, we do have, in the North Sea, lots of sand bars that are ideal places to put them. Waiting for someone to suggest the "Goodwin sands", lol. (Goodwin sands is a treacherous sand bar off Kent. Called the graveyard of ships, has been swolling them, for ever. Never to be seen again. It does have its own cricket team and potholing club.)

They're talking about the cost of maintaining the Queen and family alone vs just the President and his family in terms of personal security costs etc etc, NOT the government. That's separate. It was calculated that British citizen pays about $1 per person for the Queen, now King.
It's not the Government Spending, it is the cost of protection, housing and expenses for the RF against those of the Presidents family, NOT the cost of Government. Average IQ on the States in 2020 was even lower at 94 whilst still 100 on the UK. US education in schools is approximately 2 years behind the UK.
How many people have actually tested their IQ (and I don't mean using dubious online quizzes). I don't see how they can possibly get accurate figures about intelligence, except by comparing the education systems. Being well educated and having the capacity to learn are two different things.
With regards to the Queen versus the US President, the Queen (now King) is our head of state and we have a separate head of government, while the US President is both the head of state and head of government. So, whilst the video was technically correct concerning our respective heads of state, I feel it's a rather unfair comparison due to the US President holding both positions simultaneously while our monarch only holds one. A better comparison could have been our government's spending priorities. For example; as far as I'm aware, we spend roughly twice as much on education than defense, whereas the US spends roughly eight times more on defense than education. The internet speed is fairly inconsequential. However, when you take into consideration the vast area of the states, and the somewhat remote locations where internet is provided, I would say there's an argument to be made that the US having an average internet speed close to ours is probably more of a highlight of US internet infrastructure rather than the UK. lol I feel the discovery of elements is another unfair comparison. If I may say; you could essentially boil down scientific discoveries to: how got there first. Considering we've been around much longer than the US, I would say it's not shocking that we've discovered more. It would actually be embarrassing if we hadn't. The fact the US has discovered twenty-one elements is actually another highlight for them, considering their country is still a "baby" country compared to most of the rest of the world. 👶 lol We may not have Jake Paul, but we do have Liz Truss. Oof! 😆
I'm laughing whenever the speaker uses the word 'superioity' ! Talk of trying to deliberately wind somebody up! Kept your cool man - well done! I'm laughing at how ridiculous it is. A bit like kids - My dad's toughfer than your dad! ' We've gotta laugh haven't we!?

The Union Jack can be called this when it's flown on a ship or boat. The Jack is something that you fly Union Flag from. It's normally a funny littel white pole on the back of boat. it's actually called the Union Flag of Great Britain....... The Union Flag consists of three Nations flagss .England , Scotland and Northern Ireland. The colour green is missing that represents the Nation of Wales.....Why..... Goggle it
The first one wasn't US Government Vs the Royal Family, it was the President and his family's expenses Vs the Royal Family's expenses. Nothing to do with the Governing Bodies/Staff at all.
I think re wages, there are a few professions, like doctors, lawyers, engineers, IT people, and some self-employed who get very well paid and that skews the figures massively. Your average person working in a supermarket or a garage is not getting paid so well.
The comparison between the monarch and the president probably relates to the head of state costs only. On our side, it didn't include government which is totally separate. In the US the president is both head of government and head of state, therefore for this comparison you would need to eliminate governmental costs, which is what they did, I am assuming, otherwise it makes no sense.
There were a few things i thought were quite stupid comparisons on that list, but one thing that specifically hit my nerve was the comparison of IQs. If Hong Kong and Singapore share 1st place, then South Korea isn't 2nd, it's 3rd. Japan and China aren't 3rd, they share 4th and Taiwan isn't 4th, it's 6th and so on. And why on earth are they using the flag of Liberia for USA, it doesn't look good for a list that is supposed to compare IQs around the world.
The Royal family also contributes billions to the UK economy, much more than the annual grant they are afforded. They also optionally pay the 40% tax rate on their private enterprises.
I understood what he said the US government spent 1,400,000,000 of tax payers on the first family for one year, where as the British government spent $35,700,000 on the whole royal family.

When you said it's more people in the USA, he was talking about the average IQ in Europe, which is 100. It lives 750 million people in Europe. Two times more than in the USA.
Here are two to trigger many Americans -
1. The American flag was derived from the flag of the British East India Company and contained a Union Jack. However, the design was altered to a blue field with white stars while retaining the original 13 stripes.
2. The American anthem has rewritten lyrics from an old British drinking song "To Anachreon in Heaven"
And let's not forget their original anthem - America my country tis of thee, was sung to the tune of God save the king/queen 😆
To wind up American friends I always liked referring to the USA national sport as "rounders"! (a sport predominantly played by girls when I was growing up). Only ever intended as a little jab in good humor though. 😜
And both true
@@mcmackmuckm8180rounders is better than baseball
@Dave Coyle You may well already be aware. Although BAE Systems has it's origins as British Aerospace, it now has a significant American footprint because to win US DoD contracts a large percentage of the work needs to be on American soil. It is an international company with operations in many countries around the world, chasing large military budgets wherever export licenses will allow them to sell.
We can also correctly tell the difference between a vest, a waistcoat and a tank top!
Hence why his IQ is lower
I'm sure I said that, The World Wide Web, not the Inernet?
TBL invented the World With Web, the foundation for the internet but not the internet
Here is the golden rule Tyler. To react to something, you must first listen and understand. Some of your other reactions are quiet entertaining, but with this one, you lost the plot because you were not listening.
Nothing out of the ordinary an American not listening, they have the attention span of a four year old child.. Why their television is so bland..
It's an American trait not paying attention, the average American gas the attention span of a five year old ...

The UK isn't the only country with a Royal family.
You are correct. But the British royal family, is one of the oldest and the most prestigious of them all
@@catorcam2964 Nope. The Netherland's monarchy is about 10 times as wealthy as the UK monarchy. They are the 'Royal Dutch Shell Oil Company' biggest stock holder and were involved in it's inception. @@catorcam2964 The British Commonwealth and the US think of the British monarchy when they think of the 'Queen' not the world. Why the Americans refer to the British monarchy with the "Queen" has nothing to do with any 'prestigious' quality and an American and Uk commonwealth thing. One of the main reasons we still have a monarchy is because they bring in 5 times more money in tourism in revenue than it costs the UK to pay in taxes. It helps local businesses for example pubs and restaurants, let alone hotels train travel.

However, when you take into consideration the vast area of the states, and the somewhat remote locations where internet is provided, I would say there's an argument to be made that the US having an average internet speed close to ours is probably more of a highlight of US internet infrastructure rather than the UK. lol
I feel the discovery of elements is another unfair comparison. 👶 lol
We may not have Jake Paul, but we do have Liz Truss. Oof!
Tyler, you got this one wrong: They said that the Queen and royal family cost less than Obama and his family, not government, not parliament, just the families.
I would be interested to know what internet speeds are now in the states my average in the UK is 150mbs but do have the option to upgrade to 900mbs
That Narrator was American too ..... The UK and USA are 'United in Brotherhood' - 'Bound by Blood' ..... Always xxx ..... Paula UK x
Listen properly Tyler the subject was HEADS OF STATE, not governments, those expenses are a different matter altogether !!
The internet was first establisyed at CERN in switzerland,
the world-wide-web was first established in the US...
When the average American gets reality check 😂 never understood the entitlement and and pride of Americans 😂🙈
I have recently had my I.Q. measured for my work.
I am rated at 150 and certified as a Genius, honestly I am a good guesser.
" honestly I am a good guesser " which is part of the IQ thing. I'm only 133...
Beat you 152. Mensa
A good guesser and honest!! 🤣😂
172 here. Mensa, 1985-ish...
Are you American? 150 'genius' American is the world average. Don't worry I'm about 95, so like 140 U.S.A 😁
Tyler, the Obama thing was about what the taxes are spent on, like Airforce 1 running costs etc. BTW the past tense of "cost" is "cost"
The Royal family also contributes billions to the UK economy, much more than the annual grant they are afforded. They also optionally pay the 40% tax rate on their private enterprises.
Envy is the downfall of all that is decent. Feel blessed for the privilege you have, and make beautiful the lives you touch. 🇬🇧😍
I understood what he said the US government spent 1,400,000,000 of tax payers on the first family for one year, where as the British government spent $35,700,000 on the whole royal family.
