  • Just a few years ago, Laiatu Latu suffered a neck injury and it looked like his football career was over. Flash forward a few years later, and Latu was a superstar for UCLA, a Lombardi trophy winner and a first round pick for the Indianapolis Colts. His sky is the limit, but how did this happen? Just how good was he? And what does his future with the Indianapolis Colts look like, enjoy!

    The reason why the Colts didn't go Turner is because Ballard has (repeatedly) banked on trails when it comes to Edge rushers (Paye, Dayo, Lewis, etc) and none of them have *really* panned out. Kwity's solid, and hasn't managed a double digit sack season, Dayo's coming up but is honestly better as an inside rusher (Same kind of body type as Buckner) than edge, and Lewis has been hurt repeatedly and only shows up on occasion. None of them are specialists like Latu is. Latu may not be as long (or strong) as some of the other rushers in this class, but his technique is eons ahead of them. He's a natural pass rusher in that he relies on his brain to win, not just his physicality. It's something that both Freeny and Mathis had in spades (Both undersized technicians) and Latu's far bigger than either of them are/were during their playing careers.

      @@popeye3305 Harrison had 1800 yards in first 2 seasons without Manning. So they can get a HOF QB in 2 years and he can put up amazing snaps. And my critique is that MHJ has more opportunity and qualities than Latu. This shouldn’t be controversial. I dislike Kyler.

    Latu > Turner

    • @jshumphress13
      @jshumphress13 19 днів тому +1

      I’m a Colts fan, and we also go for the guy with traits rather than production. I was happy when we took Latu over Turner for that reason. Latu has the production now due to his skills. Turner still needs developed, and he could end up being better when we look back on this draft, but I think the Colts made the right decision.

    I hope the guy has a great career and a better life...but why in the world would you draft a guy with such a horrific injury in his past regardless of where he is health wise now? Chris freakin Ballard.

      @@carrite Peyton would've gotten killed behind that line that Grigson created. Releasing him and letting the Broncos pick him up was the best thing for him. Also the Broncos defense *carried* him to that SuperBowl victory. He was *awful* the entire playoff run.

      Oh yes, a horrific injury (it was bad, not saying it wasn't) that he immediately played rugby the following year, and then played two years of football after he was forcibly "retired" that University did the same thing to Jaelan Phillips. It's an easy way for them to get out of A.) Paying for rehab, etc and B.) Paying his Scholarship off.

      @@Ozai75 that's a good point especially about the university
      I guess I'd say why draft any player who had to miss a year of college ball with neck, back or knee problems? There's already so many injuries in a year, plus with the insane 18 game regular season coming up, it seems like a no brainier to steer clear of those players

    • @Ozai75
      @Ozai75 12 днів тому +1

      @@watcherofthewest8597 Because they do medicals on those guys. And injuries are weird. Parris Campbell for example (on the Colts) Never *not once* hurt in his entire College career, hurt basically every year except for his fourth year with the Colts. And JT. Never missed a game due to injury in College where they ran him A LOT. and yet he was injured a couple of times. For Latu's case he had the same Surgery Peyton has had and played fine since. Young guys heal a whole lot faster than us old guys. Injuries are a crap shoot. I understand staying away from guys that have that "injury prone" tag, but there have also been guys like that in College and then be perfectly fine afterwards, no injuries at all.
