What Is Internet Anyway: An Internaut’s Guide
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 лют 2019
- You may not have known this, but in the 90s the internet was a very different place. Gifs weren’t built into keyboards, emojis were made of punctuation, and it’s users were known as… internauts.

Internaut is probably the best word and i hope I can start using it in my normal vocabulary.
If you speak french, you can
I'm going internauting today
14:42 may have been the most impressive bait and switch I've ever seen on UA-cam. Bravo.
Thanks
@@dylandubeau Yeah, thanks for deceiving us!
Dial up tone intensifies
I also miss surfing the web. it used to be that every site had a list of links to similar sites but now every site is a self contained and lead you nowhere.
reddit is becoming the sub-internet lmao
You should try surfing the old archives at deletedcity, you'll find some interesting pages.
What year was this?
Unironically we should revive Internaut.
A picture of Canada is a bold way to start a video
look i only save this stuff because of the ongoing investigation....
Just imagine, 2000 MB!
What investigation?!
the weird thing is that even though it seems like such a loooooong time ago, most of those people are still alive. If that lady in red was 30yrs old and that was filmed in 1990, she'd be 60 right now. I would love to see a video where they react to their old videos...
your timeline's a bit off. Web browsers started around 1995-6.
@@shacharh5470 Yeah, I made it a very conservative estimate cuz i was too lazy to look up when it actually aired and also because I'm terrible at estimating people's ages.
Does anyone else hear after "Cyberspace", "sex is free"?
It mostly is
Set free
That ending tripped me out
please do an episode on the U-boat thatsunk because of a leaky toilet
TWOTHOUSAND MEGABYTES OF HIGH QUALITY IMAGES!!!
Crazy!
Very interesting again, thanks for that cool video again!
And i am pretty sure you had a lot of fun with that ending XD
Forget about Psychonauts 2, I want Internauts 1.
holy shit that pbs opening got me having all sorts of nostalgia. Love it.
You need more subs bud. Your stuff is great and I enjoy it a lot! Keep it up, seriously.
love your content dude ! its funny, hope you will be at it more then you where the last year !
As an internaut myself... Your videos are the most informative and interesting on UA-cam. I only just discovered the term flaming three years ago, some of my friends still don't know the term. Turns out it's been around since God was a boy.
i'm impressed by how accurate those kids (or the writers for that piece anyway) were about what they could do on the internet by the time they were in college.
What?
I've been online for almost 25 years now and honestly I miss the early internet (1993-2008). Web 2.0 social media and smartphones have dome more to kill what I loved about the internet.
There did seem to be more... I guess experimentation. Oddball stuff for sake of making oddball stuff.
Now it seems mostly codified. The sense of what could be is down the shitter.
I don't miss dial up. 😂
Feeling special?
Heck no. Waiting for a single image to load forever was awful.
That ~vaporwave~ ending … it's so meta
I'm not sure what I just watched but now I'm having Vietnam flashbacks
God i love this channel
*_the information highway_*
*superhighway
Screw me. I made the comment before I watched the video.
great video. subbed. I think that's the first time I've seen the word Internaut.
7:45 The original meme or "net toon"
9:20 Nice
6:15 This is probably my favorite clip of how hacking looks like.
We've come so far
What a Neat video for internauts
MUDs, MUCKs, and MUSHes were my childhood. Multi-User Dungeons or Multi-User Chat Kingdoms were awesome.
A lot of those terms were more technical and niche, but were (surprisingly) well used by internauts for whom those words described some aspect of their online experience. SLIP is Serial Line Internet Protocol, like PPP or Point to Point Protocol, it was a necessary and useful term for those who used it.
You didn't include the 'Thank You' in the viewers like you section? That wasn't on every PBS show?? Did they add that later????
Holy shit, at first I thought it was Borat driving that car.
I mean, I was only born in 1995, but had Broadband internet since 2000 or so, being an early adopter of Broadband. Now, I may not have been around the internet much in the very early days, but I don't feel like Internaut was a word that was used outside of evening news reports on the internet.
that was neat ;-) I think we should bring the term Internaut back
What's the song?
Hahaha, laugh my ass off the whole way through.
Great video!
This was really helpful!
Can anyone get on the inter-net?
they have the best me me's on rec.humor.funny
Neat
I found a Dutch brochure for using the internet from the 1900's while cleaning my attic, it contained detailed guides for how to search, chat, e-mail, find pornography, engage in online dating, order groceries, and get "freebies" (gratis stuff) on the internet. It was issued by a Dutch internet provider in a time when the Internet was just mainstream but most people didn't know what one could do on it. Because of how detailed the pornography chapter was I suspect that the cybersex clip might be genuine.
13:12 Matt Preston, is that you?
Instructions unclear, dropped acid
sound is really muffled
Internaute has been used a lot in French but it's kind of over now.
"Flaming"
whats a webpage? something ducks walk on?
Hang on, I thought 'E.' stood for 'emergency'? Like Emergency-Mail? Or Richard Emergency Grant?
9:20 name?
just say sauce
Anast Gramm can I get the sauce my Italian brother?
Are you Canadian?
Yup
The audio quality is hideous, is this sort of 90s Internet compression ?
3:33 I've seen CS188's YTP of this video so much, that hearing the unfucked version of this made me viscerally angry for some reason.
I can't help but think of "fingertits" now...
music too loud
YEET
the nineties have indeed been a magical time.
Seems like this video has mutated into a ytp 🤔 who cares? I came for the content, stay for the editing, and comment for the entertainment I get 💖👍
the term internaught is quite....unfortunate considering its current state...
Huh... "neat"
Thought I was going to learn something by watching this.
You did
internet is nothing but a fad it will never take off nothing beats a good old book
NetZero user here
Is that still a thing.
"Mere 9mb/s"
Yeet
Early squad
Im sorry i can't think of anything original
