Looks like a great value for the money...I'll buy at least one. I do like the separate bagging for the clear, etc. parts and I think a coat of Future will help the canopy parts. I was quite impressed overall. As you say, would be nice to have the weapons or other parts identified, however seems to be the trend. Thank you Peter
Compared my newly acquired one to my mate's Airfix kit albeit a single seat (which cost a lot more) and I felt the panel lines on this were far more subtle, and carried more detail. Amazing value. Can't wait to dive into mine.
I've built a few Sword kits and I think they are really under-rated. You do get a lot for your money and for someone that wants to move from more basic modelling to more advanced modelling they are great - if you go wrong, you have not wasted a lot of money and when it works well, you do get a very good outcome.
I've built an Airfix F2a, a Sword F1 and I've started one of these two seaters. The single seater at least builds up very nicely although it definitely is a short run kit and requires a fair amount of work to get things to fit together nice. The resin parts are good although the jet pipes require a lot of sanding to fit snugly in the fuselage. The photo etch is OK although somebody gave Eduard wrong dimensions for the aerials, all of them are overscale by 50%. The decals weren't really good on mine, they are a bit soft and have a ridiculous printing error where they say 'Keep Clean Of Intake' instead of 'Keep Clear Of Intake'. I swapped them out all of the stencils for the Xtradecal ones. For the price though, as you say, you can't go wrong. Far easier than modding an Airfix or Matchbox one.
Thought i'd seen these in 1/48 & was thinking yes please, couldn't find one. So bought swords 1/48 meteor nf instead. Gutted that i couldn't the lightning.
Great value for money all that for under £20 can't go wrong Peter put against an Airfix starter kit there's not that much in it l think and with the Lightning you are getting resin and photo etched parts 👍
That looks like a corker for the price - currently available for even less, at £14.99. I see they also make the F1/2 single seater for the same price too, but with an Eduard p.e. set that has no seatbelts. The only thing detail wise that this seems to be missing is the airbrakes. BTW - Airfix are also selling their F1/2 "gift set" for £14.99 currently. Coincidence?
I have built a couple of the Academy 1/72 scale new tool aircraft. F-4, F-8, F-18A, F-15E. Brilliant kits. In between I did the Tamiya 1/72 F-16 fully loaded. The Academy kits, imo, are not far behind that Tamiya kit. I agree that Tamiya are the best. I happily pay the premium for Tamiya. Their bike models are a delight. The Italeri 1/12 scale Alfa Romeo Monza 2300 is also a superb kit.
I've got that kit (and one of the single seat Sword Lightning kits) in my stash. I've probably made one of my rubbish videos about it. Its a very decent kit.
With Sword's subject matter and price point, I want to give them a 10 out of 10 just for that. I have this kit and the other two single seater versions and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality at the price I paid for them. I can't speak for build quality as I have not started any of them yet but my opinion may change when I do start them. Hopefully not because I want to love these little kits
Hey Peter, after making quite a lot of the newer 1/72 scale airfix lightning, it really started to annoy me with bad fit and the fuselage halves couldn’t even close with the instrument panel in the cockpit so I had to remove it. In your opinion what’s the best kit money can buy for making a proper nice looking EE Lightning? Thanks :)

@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab excellent quality tool, not too many parts so looks eaay to build, fantastic decals,Photo etc and Resin and fantastic price point.....whats not to like
Peter, his name was pronounced Roland Beau mont, not Beemont, and while at Binbrook, the lighting was called the Homesick Angel.the Lightning flies at Thunder City in south africa.
Sorry, You are incorrect...my father met the guy several times working at BAC Warton in the late 60's. See: ua-cam.com/video/TLc5lD-xOCU/v-deo.htmlsi=mvXOGXH2clVMz9Zn
The Thunder City experience demonstrated that expecting to fly something complicated, and very high maintenance, like the Lightning on a commercial basis was a bit mistaken. Sword kits look to be pretty good and excellent value.
Just ordered one of these - looks a very interesting kit of a great aircraft, and will use it to ease in to working with resin parts.
Just ordered one too. Always a favorite aircraft of mine, and the kit looks a treat!

A generous score Peter, I would have given it 8 at best, built the Matchbox version back in the day... what an aircraft it was
Generous score due to value really: It would cost more to buy the resin, decals and PE seperately. 👍🏻
I'd love to see an Airfix 1/24 EE Lightning with the spitfire level of engine and cockpit detail and some varried colour schemes from down the years.

I have a couple of Sword lightnings in 1/72 in my stash. They make great, accurately shaped kits.

Yay, Stewart! A unique kit. I hope it's better than my MPM Limited Edition Fairchild...

Firestreak is the pointy missiles red top is the rounded topped ones.
A little treatment with pledge will help that canopy.
Nah, the T Bird has got to be in all silver natural finish like all 5 Squadron ones were when I was at Binbrook in the early seventies.

The Airfix 1/48 is best (both versions) it's not perfect but nobody had done a better one...tricky to get hold of and a bit pricey though.
Almost worth it just to add the resin and photo etch to the airfix one
The only experience I've had with Sword is their 1/72 strike master. I threw it in the bin. It just wasn't worth my time.
Ooops...somebody else told me a similar story. 😕
Are you sure you got that right Peter? Blue streak was a ballistic missile.
Did I say BLUEstreak? I meant Firestreak. 👍🏻
👀
Well...I am bored with turkey already...😕
Photo etc and Resin in a kit that cost only £16.00.....as Lord Vader would say... "Impressive,Most Impressive"
