Fantastic phone, and their apps are expanding so rapidly even without GMS. The only downsides are those apps and Android Auto that needs Google's verifications, and the lack of 5G. Not a phone for everyone, but HUAWEI fans gonna love it.
Even a non Huawei fan like myself just has to give the nod of respect to this phone as a technical achievement, especially now that is on global release.

Okay, so I am Huawei fan, but that looks like a really good phone. I thought I would dislike the marble like back, but it actually looks good and unique. The banking app issue is a big negative sadly, is there any solutions for that? (wait for the Honor version?) 96 kbps is a little poor, but I can live with it for those camera's. It seems to me, Huawei are more intent on making a quality phone, unlike others that put in one thing, like mega megapixels, that actually are not great cameras, just to get the sales. Great review as ever. Where was the safari park, it looks like a good experience.
First of all, thank you for your reviews, they are great! A couple of questions if i may, is there any option to keep the screen on while it detects our face looking at it? I would love to see camera comparison with the latest flagships too. Planning to buy a phone mainly/only for photography. I have watched some videos, but they are all separated. P60 is currenly N1 in DXOmark.
And one more thought Chris, I would very much like to see comparisons of phones from the same manufacturer within several generations. For example, Huawei Mate 20, Mate 40 and, say, the current P60. Or Samsung Galaxy S10, S21, S23. At least photo and video. I think that quite surprising conclusions about the size of the progress could emerge from this. And the Samsung Galaxy S9+ already had a variable aperture, even if only with two settings, hi Xiaomi 13 Ultra...
3 generations ahead of my actual P30 Pro, and the P60 Pro is a big step forward! I love that camera department. Too bad there's no smoothness between the cameras, but the transition is smoother than in my P30 Pro. Anyway 1,119.90€ (Watch GT3 included in the bundle) is still a lot for me. I will see how much it will go down in 12 months. And yes, GPay and Banking apps missing are a bad cons.

Great and quality video review but I would have liked to see and hear more information about the camera. Especially photo quality. What about the colors compared to real life? Great review Crhis as always. But did you think that having the SD 8+ Gen1 chip instead of Gen2 like the other new flagships have any impact on the performance? What's your view/take about having a relatively older chipset.. This is my only issue and concern.
Not really that much, unless you're a gamer. But day to day performance it's still very good good and flagship level. But of course would be great to have the latest SD8Gen2 and UFS 4.0.

I'm using a friends old p30 lite and I have google play store on it, all google apps, banking apps, everything works fine. Did they change something that you can not longer install these on newer models? Seems wacked.
Perfect review as always. As for the android car, it will never work when using gspace and emulation in general. Android auto uses its own protocol when communicating with the car, therefore the car manufacturer also has to pay a license to Google, where Android auto needs access directly to usb, which is not possible with emulation. Unless the US/Google cancels the sanctions or Huawei opens the bootloader, nothing will change. The information about the max resolution via usbc/display port is a bit missing for me (by the way, it's also missing with Xiaomi 13 Ultra review and Samsung S23 Ultra review), as well as the Android version, because the EMUI version has been diverging from the Android version for a quite time.
in some gaming laptop reviews I've seen reviewers put a chart up that compares the device at hand with their previous tests - maybe a similar chart would be useful comparing screen-on time or benchmarks or temperatures/fps while playing genshin or such other metrics
Great review, the camera tech with mechanical variable aperture seems very interesting and the front camera wide angle choice is smart against other options like the 13 ultra. I wonder why they didn't go with the latest snapdragon the gen2 and 5g support? With so many phones being overhyped on the last years to have 5g support and to have something more future proof I wonder why they decided to not have it 🤔
Surprisingly the phone which costs more than 1000Euros doesn't have 5G modem. What stops them to add 5G modem in time where some countries are already testing 6G?
sanctions. US does not allow any shipment of 5G signal filters and does not allow TSMC manufacturing Huawei's 5G modems. That's why the phone only came with 4G.
@@halifaxericlau1989 it doesn't makes sense because US isn't Huawei's biggest or only Market. They have market in other continents also including home country china, so a phone with 4g modem over 1000 Euros, just good for camera doesn't makes sense. Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo doesn't have big market share in US, but still they give 5G modem.
I own a Mate 50 Pro, and want to tell everyone that the problem with not having GMS is not that you cant download twitter or google play, you can get everything through apks or Gbox but the main issue is that the notifications never come, so it is difficult to use the phone without GMS. You have whatsapp, great but if you don't get notifications whats the point? I've had many fights with my gf as we are in a long distance relationship, because I never get notified of her calls, and only when I open LINE, I get all the notifications of 5-6 missed calls. It is really annoying, fortunately I found a way by installing a chinese app that enables GMS, but the some in-app features like maps inside airbnb or uber don't work.
Also an interesting sidenote, the mate 20 Pro has a resolution of 3120 x 1440 and the P60 pro has that resolution of 2770 x 1220 now if I'm not mistaken a phone in 2018 has a higher resolution screen as it to is a oled/amoled screen than a phone in 2023??
I had a huawei tablet running EMUI. I strongly advise against. Huawei's update policy is problematic and alternative stores are not working properly. Problems during updates, again. Regarding Gspace, it works, but each time you launch an application you have to hit an advertisement. Or pay. And notifications from apps installed via Gspace do not work properly. I wanted to try.
I tried. I moved on...
Gimbal stabilization ?
Not a gimbal OIS but standard with EIS.
The hit on Xiaomi's brightness 😂😂
Not only the brightness, he was hitting Xiaomi all the time...
Huawei was getting a lot of grace, Xiaomi should do 320kbs bitrate but Huawei should just do 192....
No video out and zero mention of it...
96hrs standby time, oh don't worry Huawei that's great, Xiaomi i demand 110+...
I saw multiple videos where this phone throttles insanely which means performance takes a big hit, even GSMarena mentioned it...
I like your reviews.
Can this phone dual record camera?
Gbox with android auto?
Pixel 7 pro or g60 pro fotography and video?
Thanks!!
Still can't get Android Auto to work. As for Pixel 7 Pro Vs this I think the P60 Pro has the best photos and Pixel 7 pro better video.
