- On the night that Monty Python star Graham Chapman died, his friend and ex-collaborator, Douglas Adams, came into the studio of the BBC TV late night arts programme The Late Show to pay tribute to him. Broadcast on 4th October 1989
Silly Douglas! Just because you admire the guy doesn't mean you have to follow him into the great beyond! :'-)
Stop interrupting the man. This is Douglas Adams talking about his dead friend. He doesn't need prompting.
The much mourned Douglas Adams talking about the much mourned Graham Chapman. RIPx2
Neither Graham Chapman or Douglas Adams reached the age of 50. Sad.
Incredibly, neither did Graham Williams, the producer and co-writer Adams worked closely with during his stint on Doctor Who as script editor. He died in a shooting accident in his hotel in Tiverton in 1990 aged just 45.
It's strange how Douglas Adams for the longest time wanted to be like John Cleese, yet he became great friends with Graham Chapman. The world is an odd place.
Graham Chapman...Bless him. There will never be a better King Arthur, pet shop owner, weird police man, and those other sketches he did... um ever.
which sketch was he a pet shop owner in?
All I remember about Grahams death was that it was on the news 5th Oct 1989, the day after his very sad demise, I was 13 at the time.
Graham Chapman was one of the Greats that made Britain look good, he will be much missed.
All stand for the National anthem of Monty Python, dee, dum, dee, dum, dum deum.
I always listen to Hitchhiker's Guide audiobooks at night when I go to bed, so his voice is very soothing to me.
Keeps taking deep breaths as though he's trying not to cry. So sad. I miss Douglas.
I miss both Graham and Douglas :(
too many dead legends, now Rik Mayall too, shed too many tears for my childhood comedy legends....
Adams and Pratchett are the best humor writers ever.....
Spike Milligan
Graham Chapman = Awesome.
Annoying interview lady = needs to let Douglas Adams speak, rather than trying to put her stamp on the interview.
Two great men..I can't believe I've never seen this before..
Douglas Adams is the man. good interview
True, never a better King Arthur.
I saw during the credits that another guest on that night was John Cale. Douglas Adams talking about Graham Chapman and John Cale most likely talking about the soon to be completed Songs for Drella album (together with Lou Reed of course) and Andy Warhol, that might have been one watchable show.
To all those complaining about the interviewer. It's supposed to be an interview, not a sermon.
Not to mention the savior of Israel, Brian. But the pet shop owner was Michael Palin :)
@42paparia42 Alas, many interviewers and TV presenters think _they_ are the subject of the interview or program.
Mortality is a damnable condition...bit of a strange bargain, life.
Oh, Graham. :'(
holy zarqon's singing fish
@EllenRussell54 Except Michael Palin was the pet shop owner.
Douglas Adams is dead but he is not gone. He is just spending some time dead for tax purposes. This is called doing a Hotblack Desiato.
The interviewer talks too zarking much. It's an interview, not a catch-up conversation between old pals.
look at the picture to the left of this comment
that shows that I love Douglas Adams
she needs to BE QUIET!
Yeah, him too.
@FranBMan I'm surprised you didn't get a further response saying, "Unfair, no. Life has no choice in the matter." If pedantry was banned on UA-cam there would be hardly any comments left. But, anyways, if it's worth anything I agree with your sentiment and how you chose to express it.

It certainly is...
@Admarilcat That was an unnecessarily facetious comment. OBVIOUSLY I know the world is not a sentient being and therefor can't technically be "cruel", blah, blah, blah... Life can seem unfair sometimes, which is clearly what I meant, but forgive me for expressing that sentiment...
@FranBMan The world is so indifferent.
what? is king arthur, not to mention brian, dead? oh the chapmanity!
Or Brian.
Or a better nearly Jesus.

she needs to BE QUIET!
