What folks seem to not understand is that the mandrel saver is being driven. It never helps to turn the bushing whether there is a nut there or not. If the nut is not there, then the mandrel saver is being driven by the bushing and actually becomes a hindrance to producing torque on the blank and that's the very opposite of what we want. As I've tried to get across, using the nut more than doubles the torque on the blank for the same amount of "squeeze" on the bushings. This is because the nut is driving that bushing instead of that bushing having to drive the mandrel saver. This is starting to go round and round, lol :)
Hi Michael, Re: "This video was a help" Hey, thanks for that! I've mentioned this before --- warning! --- pen turning may become addicted, lol. Enjoy :)
I agree, if you don't put much tailstock pressure there is no problem. Thanks for the update.

Just turned my first pen today. This video was a help. Thanks Ron.
Hi Michael,

I've mentioned this before --- warning! --- pen turning may become addicted, lol.
Enjoy :)
Thanks or explaining that............................................... again. See ya tomorrow............... or later. JimE1
Maybe tomorrow :)
The blank is being compressed, though.
Thanks for commenting David 👍
Hi again David. Was thinking about your comment "The blank is being compressed"
.... but the blank is compressed in the mandrel saver too. 😁
You are correct, sir.
I thought that everyone would understand that.
I'm hoping not to hear any more about a nut and a Mandrel saver at the same time, lol :)
