I'm going off-topic here but I was sad to see that 12-year-old Pontresina had to be put down after going wrong in the 2:05. Let's just look at that horses form since late October 2020: Fell, beaten 22 lengths, unseated, beaten 15 lengths, pulled-up, beaten 59 lengths, beaten 23 lengths, pulled-up, beaten 47 lengths(then unraced for over 13 months), pulled-up(a month ago) and then died today. We're always told that racehorses are treated better than humans and that their owners and trainers love them as much as they love their own family but this is not evidence of a well-loved racehorse being well-treated! The poor old boy should've been allowed to have a happy retirement a year or two ago!
By a very good Jumps sire. Good time (faster by 3 seconds) when compared to the handicap hurdle same distance later in card. Beat horse in 4th rated 115 by 30 lengths so would have to be rated 135+??? Was getting 10lb off most other horses but was visually impressive.
This could be decent but early days. Certainly won nicely and easily unlike his plonker 30 minutes later. Problem i have is that the Pipe horse in third looks decidedly moderate and whilst this has won nicely, it somehow casts the level of the race in a darker light
@ i would argue it does. For example if you are winning by that distance beating previous winners then you could argue that the performance is extremely impressive. Given the field behind this one, the only other horse in there with potential was also on debut and the field is suspect. Still a good performance and you can’t ask a horse to do anymore than win but it’s a minefield if you are talking about the festival based on the one performance. Could be decent but also given the lack of strength in depth of the rivals, could just be a handicapper
@garethtaylor1470 agree 100% with you - he just goes through races in his own calmness. Difficult to see who'll stop him. Plenty of good opposition in the field for Cheltenham but I get the feeling only the actual racetrack can stop him. If Jonbon can get used to Cheltenham he wins easy in March

When you win by 26 lengths it doesn’t matter what’s behind you

@ if he’d won 4/5 lengths then you’d guess the form but she’s won 26 lengths and he couldn’t pull her up. What was behind is irrelevant
