  • An unbiased review of two pairs of gloves from Sabas fight gear in California. Review talks about performance, quality and styling. I'm not a fantastic boxer or an expert, but I have boxed before and have bought a ridiculous number of pairs of gloves ;) Please like if it helps you buy or answers some of your questions.

    Great review. Very detailed with all the right info to help viewers make an informed decision. I ordered a pair of Hayabusa T3 sparring gloves before watching this. I'm tempted now to get another pair of the Sabas Pro, thanks to your review. My bank manager will not be happy! Thank you buddy.

    Great review, very explicit and practical. I do own a pair of pro series 16 oz (black/teal) and those are way more compact and feel lighter than other gloves (my old Reyes). Easy to open your hand and easy to make a solid fist, nice feedback sound and the minimalist design allows me do improve my defensive moves plus practice more accurate punches. Even the shipping was fast considering the shitty post office in Chile. 10 years in boxing and I totally recomend Sabas.

      Really good value for money too! and if you have problem you can speak to the owner directly. I'm a convert for sure! They are breaking in nicely now too and are more flexible.

    I didn't want to buy 2 pairs either , but I ended up with the maroon and black 16 oz supersofts and a 16 oz pair of teal and black pro series. I agree about the quality of the brand.They are amazing gloves. Even across the same weight, the hand compartment of the supersofts are much tighter. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing( I can still get them on with wraps), but I find myself favoring the pro series.The padding has more feedback on the bag, but is still really protective. I wanted one more pair and ended up getting another 16 oz pro glove since I have a couple of bags at the office.

      For the price these gloves are fantastic! Real leather and amazing comfort. Not sure they're are well known in the UK but I'm determined to spread the word. Looking forward to being able to wear wraps with both the gloves soon so I can do some sparring. I can feel them breaking in so shouldn't be long.

      I haven't tried any of the lace ups .All my gloves are velcro. In fact, I'm probably the least qualified person to give any real advice since I train mostly for fitness. My main concern is protecting my hands on the heavy bag.The pro series have just been perfect for me.The more I use them , the more I like them.

      @@sugarray1345 I'm happy to answer your question. I have had these gloves for about a year now. At first when I tried them on, i was surprised at just how much cushion they have. It didn't take long to break them in. I still use them to this day, and they haven't ripped or anything. They really are great gloves. I have owned numerous gloves in the past. Winning, Cleto Reyes, Ringside, etc. I can honestly say they have more support for you wrist and your knuckles that Ringside and Cleto Reyes by far. I can't compare them entirely to my Winning, since I only use those for sparring. Then again, Winning is on another level. Sabas Super soft come in 2nd for me. Your thumbs won't hurt at the end of your workout, and they will maintain their durability even a year later like mine have. Just take care of them. Air them out after every work out, just don't leave them out in the sun, and they should last you a long time. Hope this helps bro.

      So far I've used them once and they are awesome. The padding is on par with winning. I could really let my hands go and felt secure that they were protected. Overall they feel very good and my hands fit very tightly inside the glove without losing control of my ability to make a knuckle. So far I love these gloves for a third of the price as winnings they are damn near as good

    I'm surprised to hear you say the Pro Series for sparring and the Supersoft for bag work. I assumed it would be the other way around. Sabas restocked some velcros yesterday. I had a chance to speak with the owner and he explained to me that there was no difference in the knuckle passing between the 14oz Pro Series and the 16oz Pro Series.the extra two ounces is on the wrist. Any feedback on this?

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому

      I've not used the 14oz pro series so I can't comment on the difference between this and 16oz. The cuff on the 16oz certainly has a little bulk to it on the wrist area so that's probably where they put the extra padding. Re sparring gloves: I always use a 16oz glove for sparring so I use the proseries 16oz that I have, not to say that I wouldn't use the supersofts for sparring if they were 16oz too. I use the supersofts on the bag more as they're a little bit lighter (14oz) and I don't feel like I have to wear wraps due to the great hand protection. I tend to hit the bag a lot harder than when sparring. I also have started using the proseries on the bag more as the ss are taking way long to break in.

  • @BoxingFishingGuy
    @BoxingFishingGuy 7 років тому

    If you have longer fingers and thumbs I’d recommend the Pro Series. Really about the most comfortable glove I’ve ever worn. They are a perfect fit for me: slightly larger than average hands with longer than average fingers and thumb. My supersofts are just finally about broken in after six months. I have not used them religiously, maybe once a week on average. The hand compartment has never really stretched out. I can wear these with wraps, although they are a little tight.

    Perhaps you could help me, with my decision if you don't mind. I'm a barber so the longevity of my hands is very important to me and work. I'd say I hit the heavy bag and aqua bag 85% about of the time, and the other 15% I spend sparring. I appreciate it and great video, you should keep doing reviews!

      After much use, I would go for the pro series 16oz as a kind of all purpose glove. I'm still waiting for the supersofts to break in and amazed at how long it takes. I keep going back to the pro series.

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому

      For more hand protection I would go with the Supersoft as they feel more like a winning glove (soft and protective without being too bulky). Size depends on what you’re using them for. If you want to do some sparring, then I’d go for 16oz as it’s easier on your sparring partners. If just bag work/ mitt work then I would go for 12oz or 14oz Supersoft for your weight. I use the 14oz Supersoft for the bag and they put a smile on my face every time I use them. I’m 6ft and 14.5 stone and wouldn’t go lower than 14oz as when you switch to sparring and put 16oz gloves on you suddenly go up to bigger gloves and your arms will tire out quickly. Good luck - they are awesome gloves!

      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому +1

      Thanks. I've not tried Grants in sparring but I have seen them in the gym and the styling/ padding is very similar, the long cuff etc. I personally am really getting into the pro series. I think they're are slowly breaking in and becoming a very nice glove. I think Sabas have tried to emulate two very good brands, winning and grant and have done a good job, perhaps exceeding in some areas.

    Good review brotha. Question, which style do u prefer for mitt work? I was looking to get a pair for mitt work and cant decide between the 12oz pro series or super softs, what do u think?

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому +2

      Thanks! I think for feedback I would go with the pro series on pads. There's a lot more give on mits than a heavy bag and its nice to be able to really feel your shots. It also depends on the size of your hands. supersofts are a bit smaller in the hand compartment. If you've got long fingers then pro series better. tbh - I alternate between the pro and supers everyday and I am finding it more and more difficult to chose. They are both great gloves.

    • @247Combat
      @247Combat 7 років тому

      Really thats wierd cuz i called this morning and they told me the opposite that in the 12oz at least there is a larger hand compartment in the supersofts.

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому

      The proseries is definitely longer. supersofts are tighter, unless they've changed their design, but I doubt it. Even on their website it says this under the glove descriptions. pro series 'accommodates those with long fingers', super soft ' snug fit has your hands feeling right at home'. did you speak to Pedro?

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому

      If I had to pick, it would be the Supersoft 14oz. They feel well protected, light and the profile is good. I don't have huge hands (about 9 inches around the knuckle). They are tight at first but break in. The pro series is better if you have longer fingers. Lots of people rate both gloves. If you have heavy hands and hit hard then the supersoft will protect you. I don't wear wraps with them and my hands are fine.

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому

      The pro-series is definitely a firmer glove and gives more feedback. It is a little harder on your opponents and hands than the supersoft. If I had to chose one I'd personally go for the supersoft 16oz - they just feel right for me. If you have long fingers I would chose the pro-series. Lots of people seem to like the pro series for a more all round glove. Damn, it's so hard to chose as they are both great gloves. If you want more feedback and space in the compartment then get the proseries. If you want comfort then supersoft.

    People say Winning gloves are easier on your sparring partner than something like Cleto Reyes. Would you say the Supersofts are just as easy on your sparring partner as Winning? I spar with my brother a lot, so this aspect of the glove is important to me.

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому

      I haven't sparred with my SS as they are only 14oz. They are softer than the pro series so I would say they would be a bit kinder. There is more padding around the knuckle area. Whatever you decide, it's best to get at least 16oz if sparring

  • @likeaboss975

    What is feedback on gloves im new to boxing?

    • @RichieRich1402
      @RichieRich1402  7 років тому +2

      Feedback on a glove gives you an indication as to how good your punch was. If you have spongey gloves, that have too much squidgy padding on them, then you can hit without really feeling the shot. Gloves with decent padding (not too soft and spongey) protect your hands but also allow you to feel the shot. You can normally feel and hear a pop/ snapping sound when you snap your punches and can tell whether your shot was decent. Also, you can feel which part of the hand you hit with. That's my definition of feedback and what I look for.

      The thumb and hand compartment are longer on the pro series than the supersoft. I don't have huge hands and there is still some room so they are comfortable (it doesn't hurt after a while like some gloves). Just wondering now if that's why my thumb attachment ripped on the Reyes - maybe the thumb was too short? the pro series are more comfortable when you first put them (because there's more room) but the leather is still a little bit stiff and needs breaking in, especially at the back of the hand.

      The Pro series are my go-to gloves now. I really like them. I'd check about hand compartment sizes if you go to 12oz. I seem to remember someone commenting that they get quite small. I really didn't like the Reyes 16oz sparring gloves mainly because they were about 18oz when I weighed them, they felt cumbersome and things started to break on them (thumb strap, lining etc). Maybe I got a duff pair, but for that money I expected better.

      I wish I'd kept my Reyes to do a comparison. The 16oz were massive and weighed about 18oz. I wasn't too keen on them and the quality on my pair wasn't great either so I sold asap. Maybe the 14oz are different and you got a better pair? Based on my experience I wouldn't buy them again.

      RichieRich1402 I have size M hybrids. They are great all around. compared to Sabas pro series, as I typed before, they are surpier in every way, unless you like bulky gloves with padding everywhere. I love that Reyes only pads the backside of the glove, and the short cuff is the best thing out there.

      I’ve not tried the hybrid gloves so I can’t compare. They are lace and Velcro I think so a slightly different glove to a pure Velcro glove. I had the Reyes 16oz (that were actually a massive 18oz) Velcro only sparring gloves. They were awful (like comedy pillows) and the thumb attachment broke and the lining ripped after a few weeks. When you’re paying £220 for a pair of gloves that’s a kick in the nads. I much prefer the super soft and the pro series as they are well made and have a slimmer profile than the Reyes gloves I had. Buying stuff will always be subjective.

      RichieRich1402 I think ya got ripped off m8. My Reyes are over a year old and not even frayed stich yet. Lots of good (and bad) fakes out there. Specially over seas which Im assuming is where you live.

      They did have the Reyes serial number on the cuff and came with a receipt from a UK retailer so I'm confident they weren't dodgy, just a shockingly over weight with naff quality control. Maybe I'll try the hybrids out someday (if I can persuade the misses to let me buy yet another pair of gloves ;) Sabas supersoft are still the best pair of gloves I've owned so far! (*my opinion of course).

      I really like the pro-series. It offers a great deal of protection and just feels right for me. I get very sore fingers and wrists from jiu-jitsu and these are great for protection when boxing.
