There’s just something about Barry’s voice, always. His voice is like a horn, an instrument. The tone, the way he plays it. He has the best voice-from his husky deep voice, to his sweet, soulful mid-range voice, to his one-of-kind falsetto. He ruled.

The only problem I have with their songs is that I don't want them to end, they seem to finish too soon. The Bee Gees, non-repeatable masters of smoothness!

    “That’s their voices!” Love it!
Justin Timberlake said in the HBO doc ‘How Can You Mend a Broken Heart’ about how their voices together sounded like trumpets to him. I couldn’t agree with him more.

Listen to YOU SHOULD BE DANCING - vocals only. (Available on you tube) They very clearly are singing the horn parts. They (mostly Barry) would sing the parts for the instruments to be laid on top of, but you can still hear the vocals underneath. Even Words and Jive Talkin have what could have been replaced by instruments. One of Barry’s Demos for Guilty has vocals for guitar, and on one, he sang the drum part to the drummer in the studio. Vocalizing what he heard in his head. They were influenced by the Mills Brothers who were known for vocalizing instruments. Watch Alexander’s Rag Time Band, either when kids, or for The Midnight Special:))

That’s one thing about the Bee Gees, they weren’t scared to try something new, they certainly used their voices to their fullest advantage. Meanwhile back with Andy, Barry has said, when Star’s start buying themselves exotic animals that is a definite sign they’re not in their right minds. Andy just happened to get himself a baby lion and no amount of telling him how far down he’d gone, it was the start of his demise and that’s what stopped him from becoming a Bee Gee sooner. However he was on a downward spiral sadly and it never happened. Andy’s story and the fame he achieved is sad but as hard as his brother’s tried they couldn’t pull him out of it and who knows maybe if he’d stepped up and grew up, he might have been a Bee Gee and still be with us today. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇺🇸🕺🏻💃🎸☘️

Love this song! As to Andy...I hear that the problems he was having with drugs was over by the time they had made the decision to bring him on. His body simply gave out due to the drugs. He died of myocarditis; an inflamation of the heart muscle, caused by years of cocaine abuse that fatally weakened his heart. Truly a tragedy.

The end of ‘87 Andy moved permanently to Miami to begin working on his new album. Barry always said how much better he did when away from the LA scene & with them. The brothers then announced shortly after the first of ‘88 that sometime that year Andy would be joining them as the 4th Bee Gee. Sadly as we all know, 5 days after his 30th birthday they lost their younger brother.

This is one of my favorites by the Bee Gees I adore that song especially the part where they say you are the reason for my laughter and my sorrow, blow out the candle I will burn again tomorrow, no man on earth will stand between my love and I and no matter how you hurt me I will love you till I die.
    Powerful lyrics.

I didn’t know they did the “musical” intro to this song with their voices! They didn’t stop Andy from being a Bee Gee. He was just too young. And they were waiting until he was ready. Barry also mentioned that no one really wanted him in the group except for him. I think Andy had some issues about not being quite as good as his elder brothers. The Bee Gees wrote most of Andy's songs. They recorded, produced and sang back up for him. His recordings sounded great. But...when he had to sing live, without Barry hitting the high notes in the background, well. IMHO, Andy was Barry-lite. I have wondered if the idea of trying to live up to his brothers HUGE success played a part in him getting lost in drugs. His brothers didnt give him drugs. But maybe they helped him believe he was as talented ?? I don't know but it is a damn shame for a man so young to be gone too soon.
I know Feist recorded this song, maybe where you've heard it?

Andy Gibb did not have quite as good a voice as the other brothers. He was good but not as good, just my opinion. The others sang together since childhood and knew each other intimately enough to sing harmonies with no effort. Andy was going to join and it was to be announced but he died before it happened.
Andy did have a lot of enablers with the "in crowd" in LA. Finally he was brought by the family to Miami, hopefully to get away from drugs, but they were still readily available. As a result he was sent to Thame, near Oxford, to live with Robin who was clean, more strict with him than the others and where drugs would be harder to find. Maurice also tried to help him. Andy was living in a cottage on Rob's estate but managed to smuggle in booze and got so drunk he fell and knocked out his teeth. Shortly after he went to the hospital with pain and died 3 days later. Robin came home from Oxford that day, was met at the gate and told "Andy's gone". Surprised, he said, "You mean he left the hospital?" No, he was dead. Robin was floored and felt partly responsible but it was going to happen anyway because his heart was so damaged from cocaine.

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 3 роки тому +1

@@robinfry4408 - Hi Robin. I'm on planet earth. You might note, before getting your knickers in a twist, I said "JUST MY OPINION". I stand by it.
In order of vocal ability I put from best to less, Robin, Barry, Andy, Maurice. Andy had a lovely voice but not the same power or volume. JUST MY OPINION. OK? You are entitled to yours as I am to mine without the lectures and insults directed my way.
I also found Barry's "whispered" voice and overused falsetto annoying. That' s why I don't put him as #1. It put me off the Bee Gees for a couple of years as it did to many. The falsetto was great in some songs and popular for a while but was overused and actually almost destroyed their career after the "disco" era. They could get airplay to save their lives. I loved his "natural" voice. Very bluesy, storng and great for pop music, R&B. Robin's was soulful, also good for R&B and his vibrato great for ballads. Barry himself said "Robin's voice is KILLER" and "Nobody sings like Robin". HIS words, not mine. Maurice said "Robin's voice reached in and grabbed your heart". Again, HIS words, not mine. Maurice was an amazing musician and harmonizer whose voice was excellent for country. I liked them all.
Who looks like whom is irrelevant to vocal ability. Someone can look like a hedgehog and have a beautiful voice. Actually hedgehogs are quite cute. If you look at some solo performances of Robin's in the 80's, with blond hair, although skinnier, Andy also looks a lot like him in some of those. Who cares?
I am the same age as the twins and grew up with the Bee Gees music. How long have you followed their career, 1967, 1977, 1987, 1997? I guarantee I have seen all the performances necessary to form MY opinion, to which I am entitled.
Now, relax. Andy was good but IN MY OPINION, basically a heart throb with a good voice, just not quite as capable as his brothers who also had natural talent and evolved over decades.
      Ciao.

@@susieq9801 - In my opinion… Some folks just want to hear their own opinion repeated. I enjoy hearing differing views and opinions. With you on most of what you say, but OMG! Barry! He’s the man! He’s the one who had the dream and took it all the way, carrying his twin brothers with him. Yeah, the “disco” era - They were crucified for being the best of the best! Has any other performer or group experienced that?! Simply love Barry’s unique ability to sing any genre with the added talent to make anyone he sings with sound incredible. Barbara Streisand was and is certainly an icon, but she definitely got back in the spotlight with the “Guilty” album created for her by Barry and the brothers. Robin! Wow, just wow! But his voice can be too soulful and emotional at times. Love that guy and he certainly added his magic to the trio. Maurice was the unsung hero and he knew and accepted that. He was taken from us way to soon. He was the glue that made it all work behind the scenes. As for Andy… A talent gone too soon as well. Don’t think he was as good as Barry, Robin or Maurice. He had the benefit of his brothers helping him, but even with that, he was unable to grasp the golden ring and his insecurities destroyed him. Let me repeat… This is my humble opinion and I hope others enjoy my view as much as I enjoy theirs. All in all: The Bee Gees are simply the best of the best… In my humble opinion! 😂🥰

From what I have heard his brothers tried very hard to help Andy but the problem with addiction is that you have to want to beat it and it's not easy. Also sadly most drug users even when they get clean still suffer lifelong effects from their drug use resulting in many various health problems.

Andy -He moved to Hollywood and got fought up in the lifestyle and the drug scene. A failed marriage and then a breakup with actress Victoria Principal….he was a mess. Fame was bad for him.

In the documentary it is said that all the brothers had issues with drugs of some sort and his brothers suffered the same thing when they became famous in the late 60s.i think that is why his brothers tried so hard to help him, they knew what he was going through.
