Thanks Brian! For the most part people are happy to see me. I've only had a handful of jobs that weren't happy with one in particular that stands out. They were 30nm offshore and were upset by my eta, but nothing I can do about that. I get there and they're unhappy because they just started catching fish. I told them we're going now and they can fish on the way back in or I can come back tomorrow. Needless to say they went with the first option 😂
You're 100% right. A hip tow generally does give you much better control. However, this boat doesn't have enough control with a single screw/rudder. It can't even control itself in reverse let alone control a boat on a hip tow
Another good video! Who do you work with now and in what part of Florida do you cover? Also what is the farthest you have to travel for a tow/rescue, what is you area of responsibility? Thanks.
Thanks pvp64! I work for TowBoat US Sarasota now, so I cover more or less from the south Siesta Key Bridge up to Cortez and out 50nm. We also have a boat on the Manatee River that covers the river and the Anna Maria Island area south to Cortez. The furthest I've gone is 45nm offshore and 65nm on the ICW (when I worked for TowBoat US Venice).
Haha. Thanks Sea Wench! Yes it is their job to assist boaters. The dock staff at Gasparilla have always been very helpful when I've brought boats in there. This guy just happend to be busy on my initial approach and didn't signal until after I made the turn that they were using a different dock than usual for hauling boats
$0 He had a TowBoat US membership, so it cost him $0. I don't remember the level he had, but even the most expensive one is only $200/year. If he didn't have a membership, it would've cost him somewhere around $1200
Dude, the YT quit recommending your channel, glad I saw this vid today. I got a lot of catching up to do.
Great job as always.
Thanks Joseph! Glad you found it again!
Make sure yo like the videos and they'll pop up more often. 🤙
Good captain skills with one screw! Stay safe and keep towing! 👍👍
Thanks Wander!

How come you don't put people on the hip when in close quarters? I've always found it to put me in much better control.

@@CaptKenO Thanks, I hope if I ever break down in that area, that your the one that responds!😀
Good job Ken, sometimes dock staff think their a cut above everybody else, but isn't it their job to assist boaters at the dock?!!!!!

How come they didn't use trolling motor to dock or was it flat battery.
I would assume so
What did you charge him for the tow?
$0
