It is perhaps a mark of greatness when a composer with whom I studied, who was known for a completely different, highly accessible style of music, said when asked about Sun Treader by Carl Ruggles, "it is truly magnificent!"
One of the most extraordinary works of the 20th century. Absolutely relentless in its compositional rigour and crystal clear in its thought. Would love to hear it live.
A loud, dissonant, harsh, sometimes troubling relentless piece of music that fits well in today's idiom. I have enjoyed it from first hearing it when MTT conducted it on vinyl to the present day. It still has the power to shock! Marvellous!
This is a superbly well controlled performance of this modern day classic by a sadly under-performed composer, whose music outshines most of today's "composers" who just can't even get near it.

Discovered this on "Turnabout" in 1970s and was blown away by it. It still works!

If I am correct, this is the original recording, and it is still the best.
I'm scared now. This makes Portals sound like a lullaby.

It sounds so good when I turn it off..
