    Outdoor Shower! I leveled up our backyard with this refreshing build! This DIY video covers the whole process from framing the cedar structure, adding in a natural stone floor and then adding in the easy plumbing. Also check out a great tip to protect wood posts from decay and rot. And bonus that this shower now blocks our unsightly side yard!

    First, it looks AMAZING! As a plumber in Texas however, there is a reason we do not use galvanized piping much anymore. I still love the look and replacement is simple, so I might suggest a di-electric conversion fitting at the hose to increase longevity. Brass into galvanized pipe will break down quickly in open air as they will begin sharing electrons across the dissimilar metals. Copper is more expensive, but would last exponentially longer in the Texas summers.

    • @MakerGray

      Thanks for the tips and kind words!

      So you recommend the Brass end into Copper piping for the shower leg? Maybe the difficult part is getting it threaded, not entirely sure.

    • @theprettyanxiouskoko6876
      @theprettyanxiouskoko6876 Рік тому +3

      Galvanized piping is a must esp in texas...Brass into galvanized piping is fine and di electric conversion fittings are a myth...

    • @stevenleppo7996
      @stevenleppo7996 Рік тому +7

      @Andrew Freeman Brass into copper does not have the same issues because the metals are reasonably similar. Personally, for the cost, I would use a PEX connection from a split hose bib and come up with copper pipe because it is a natural material that does not break down as quickly in the elements.

    • @stevenleppo7996
      @stevenleppo7996 Рік тому +23

      @The Pretty Anxious KoKo There is a reason galvanized pipes in Texas no longer match code for residential structures. Especially in this instance, every time there is no water inside the pipe, a layer of rust will form that, then flakes off and creates pitting in the pipe. Enough times, a hole forms. Dielectric fittings are required by code.

    Great idea! Plumber here, if you want warmer water, I live in the northeast, I’d replace that hose bib with a hot/cold faucet so it would be more comfortable and you could use it year round. Need a shelf to set your ‘shower beer’ on…….I mean, shampoo, body wash, etc.

      Instead of using hot water you could just run a long length of black hose that’s exposed to the sun. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I was helping a neighbour replace some fencing between our two houses. I went to wash my hands off and sprayed them with his garden hose. Startled the L out of me as that water was HOT.

    I'm waiting for the day you add hot water.
    Sure it's miserably hot in Texas, but year round, you might want to give the dog a bath in this spot.
    You can add a handheld shower attachment, and viola.

      In America we have the same rules for public swimming pools etc. Swimmers are to throughly shower before entering pools. Children wearing diapers are not usually allowed unless they wear a special plastic diaper that goes over the actual diaper but more and more babies are not being allowed in pools. Additionally any persons who have recently been ill with a gastrointestinal condition or diarrhea within 14 days are not allowed to swim in public pools. Their are several pathogens like Cryptosporidium that cause many illnesses.

      You could put copper pipes in the outside in a zig-zag pattern to make a solar heater and also use it as a trellis for a vine so it doesn’t get too hot in the summer (or just try it with a black hose which would be cheaper )

    When designing an outdoor shower its nice if you can see the outside while in the shower. If privacy is needed use something that is taller and or has a pattern. A shower wand is the most essential element to any shower on planet earth. I personally like to have two shower heads and two wands... you know guest.... or being enveloped in hot water and that hot water... So nice to shower on a cold night under the stars while the coyotes are howling. We all love our boxes but we can get out of them... in our heads and in our designs.

    Make sure that hose bib is truly grounded. Also for proper air circulation for ac unit, nothing should be within 2 ft of the edge. TX gets hot, need proper air flow for unit efficiency and longevity. I would have left the exterior bottom open for air flow and visibility if a critter or snake was in there.

    We built a very similar shower for use outside our seasonal trailer. It is a 4’ x 6’ enclosure that has a clear Lexan corrugated roof and we put a door on the front instead of the side opening like yours. We are in northern Ontario so hot water was a must to extend the shower season from early May into late October. The use of a propane tank less outdoor water heated means you can have a shower at the temperature you like, for as long as you like. We also used low voltage LED lighting in it for those late evening showers before turning in for the evening. It’s been a real game changer and this is our 4 season using it without any operational issues. Another nice feature is that the tank less water heater allows me to have hot water outside of the trailer quickly without lugging a bucket full from inside the trailer.

    By putting your horizontal boards down at the ground level you have effectively made a nice home for any and all critters - especially if you're not going to be using it during the Winter months. Remove a foot of boards from the ground up. There is nothing wrong with someone seeing your naked feet as you shower but the critters will go find another place.

    Great build and the stone base is primo! We live near the beach so a knee level spigot to rinse sandy toes is a nice idea.

    Really enjoyed watching your video. After experiencing another hot summer while doing some outdoor backyard projects ie., pavers, an outdoor grilling gazebo, I have decided to add an outdoor shower to area. I like the way you make use of clamps and 2x4's for supporting your posts. Just like I did recently. It's the little details such as the top plate on the walls, and the trim gives the structure a finished look. I'll be using copper for my supply line, and I will use composite planking for the floor. The structure will be made from cedar. Look forward to seeing more of your projects.

    Easier to hold the post plumb and pour the dry concrete into the hole just enough to hold the post. Then you can get it perfect and pour the rest of the concrete in. Much faster and easier!!
