I owned Ranch Horse Outfitters/Paul Custom Saddlery for 15 years. Great info you have here. We always used the wood trees. I never liked the fiberglass trees because they have no "give" to them. Wish you had shown the correct place to measure seat size. People are so confused about that for some reason. Also wish folks understood that you can't get an accurate gullet width on a built saddle! LOL

Warren's trees are superb. They really fit horses very well.

Why are some of the bars on trees sloped toward the horn more than others? I have an Ammerman that has a super sloped bars to the horn. Almost like a barrel saddle. Then I have a trophy saddle with almost flat bars all across the seat?? Why is that ?

A simplified answer is that several factors play into the design of the bars. The higher the bars are in the front the less acute the angle is where they connect to the swells. This makes the connection at that point stronger. Also, where a person wants to be in the seat will affect how flat or raised the seat is in the front and back. A person’s size will also play a role. The smaller the person, usually the higher the seat will be in the front. The larger the person, usually the lower it will be. So the function of the saddle, the way a person plans to use it, and the size of a person will all play a part in how it is constructed.
