Hi, thank you so much for your sharing. I just graduated from BA Fashion Imaging and Illustration at London College of Fashion and applying for CSM MA Fashion Communication: Fashion Image Course now, which I need to create a visual portfolio related to Fashion Communication and Promotion, so I'm wondering how to start it and tips for creating such portfolio?
Thank you so much for uploading this video! I'm studying FCP pathway in my CSM Foundation year and I'm planning to apply the exact same three courses! Hope I see you around!!!
this video was incredibly helpful! i love all ur work so much and im going to study at csm foundation next year. uve inspired me loads i hope to see you around next yr x
I have a bachelor's in graphic design and I want to get a masters in fashion communication or fashion promotion. This helped me a lot in what to include in the structure of a portfolio for the fashion industry. Thank you
I am doing fashion design in school and I applied for fashion communication and styling at university and I don’t know how to go about it because every teacher is telling me something else, like I do fashion so I have sketchbook work but it’s like for university they want a portfolio but I don’t know how to make it catered to fashion communication and styling because right now I am just doing the portfolio based of my ideas from my sketchbook. Please I really need help! Thank you.
Did you need a portfolio to get onto the course in the first place from a levels? I don’t do any art subjects and I don’t know if I should be making a portfolio
why do you need a sketch book for communication and promotion? is it just to show the process of the projects? maybe a stupid question haha, but i've only seen it in design portfolio videos before
@@awesomeness24x7 Well, for my foundation course it is required for us to do since our sketchbooks will be marked. Even for my course now I still create a sketchbook for each project I do, I think its good to always have one because it will be useful when it comes to your crits (you can reference back to whatever you are saying in your crit, with your sketchbook)
Great work! Very interesting to see how it works at different colleges. I am studying BA Fashion Photography at LCF and we create digital research journals, which similar to these but it makes a difference in it's approach when it's done digitally. Would be cool if you'd talk about some of these projects in detail. :-)
@@gracegchoy btw let me know if you'd be up to doing some comparison videos together? I think it might be interesting for people to know how CSM and LCF differ! :-)
Hey, I know it’s been literally 4 years since u made this but, I was hoping you could help answer my question as I can’t seem to get a definitive answer anywhere; I’m applying to fashion comm and branding BA courses rn, would digital versions of the conceptualisation of my projects be cool too, or do they have to be sketches in physical form(I love to just use photoshop to do any conceptualisation)
Hi I’m currently in year 10 at school and I really would like to end up doing something like this in the future and working within the fashion industry not necessarily making garments and stuff like that. Do you have any suggestions for work experience for year ten that would give me an idea of hopefully working in the fashion industry? Thanks xx
Hey! For your year 10 in the UK should be my grade 9, at this age I think I was very set on becoming a designer and I wouldn't suggest being so certain on your path at this point. I was constantly uncertain because in this industry there are so much you can do. I would suggest for you to start researching the different jobs/roles in the fashion industry and narrow down what area you are more curious about since you still have time you can take some short courses over summer break or winter break in different college campuses to try out different things, as this is what I did. Hope this helps! :)
Hi! I am applying to fcp this year and your video is helping me out a lot! I was wondering, do you HAVE to have a sketchbook for every project? Like even for smaller ones? Thank you so much x
YAYYY so good to hear that it was helpful! Sketchbooks should be something that documents all your thought process and research, it is really up to you how you want to organize it! You can have some projects in one sketchbook or not have a sketchbook at all and make a digital research file. Many ways to do it (:
Hey, thank you! If you were to start this course, personally, I would suggest investing in a film camera. You don't have to start buying anything just yet, wait until you meet your tutor and when the course begins.
I found this course the other day and honestly it seems perfect for me. How competitive would you say the foundation course at UAL is and the fashion communication and promotion degree? I’m currently studying A levels would love to do it!! Also what career prospects do u think you’ll get out of it?
Going to be completely honest, it was extremely competitive, especially if you really want to get on the course again for BA. People I heard/know of who graduated from this course ended up doing very different things; for example, creative director, photographer, stylist, any image maker, videographer, PR, etc.
Congratulations, I love your work. Being admitted to all of those three courses must have been fantastic for you. But if I can ask, what were your grades back in high school to enter the course of communication and promotion? Did they influence on your admission possibility? Did they ask specific grades, do they really care about them? What subjects were you studying in hs to get admitted here? Are they more important of the portfolio? What are the minimum grades they ask? Sorry for the questions, but I would really love to be admitted.
Thank you! My grades were average, I had a few As but mostly Bs and Cs. I wasn't good with some academic classes and taking exams was just not my thing. I tried really hard in high school because it got harder when I started taking IB (International Baccalaureate). I took 3 high-level classes and 3 standard-level classes, adding on to the workload I also had to make my portfolios on the side. I think grades matters in admissions since there's a certain requirement you have to make in order to pass, but your portfolio should be the most important. You have to double check on their course website! I hope I answered all your questions x
When I applied I don't recall submitting an online portfolio first, but I actually have a few people dm me about this, so I think they changed the requirements after my year.
@@GodesXsports99 wow, I mean, I would just listen to what your tutor tells you to do. But it makes sense that the online portfolio is your most current works.

yes. Ideally, u should have a portfolio or sketchbooks, because it clearly shows ur work and your working style to the tutor that is reviewing it.
such a great video, love your work !! xx
thank you!
Thank you so much sweetie! Do you think sketchbook/scrapbook is also needed to be included if i submit a digital portfolio ?

haha no worries! Yes, all my sketchbooks are used for putting in my research, experimentations, and process for each project
