Thanks for watching guys. Really enjoyed this rack unit! Fun and easy to use. Apologies if there’s a bit of compression happening to the audio. UA-cam has for some reason decided to do that to the audio in this video.
I like how you obviously enjoy the product, but also keep a distance and try to be objective in the end, for whom this may be the right thing. Very authentic, very Rabea style! Thumbs up!
Rabea, I love the fatness of the clean tone kinda stepping into that Dumble kinda clean tone this amp seem to cover a lot tonal options anyway great demo as always!
oh man oh man, i wish some companies would do more rack gear. im nearly always at my desk when i play guitar and the ability to have everything nice on the desk would be perfect
Anyone else notice the "WARNING:" precaution below the serial number sticker? It reads: "To reduce the risk of electrical shock, do not open or ATTEMPLT to service HIS amplifier..". ..it's HIS amplifier. Make no attemplts. LoL. Gotta love typos. 🤣😛
AC/DC - Back in Rack! It's really thick sounding, I prefer the sound of this to some Soldano I've heard that are more of that ear biting, bright, hot-rodded Plexi thing. This one has a lot of low-mid oomph. But then with the bright switch it got that 'Spoonman' edge, but isn't lacking fullness, the way a Plexi-type amp can.
Any analog amp at this point in guitar history is a specific and niche product. Having owned pretty much every multitasking modeler/profiler I can say that they too are often "rack mounted" and in some ways very niche in the sense that they very much encourage menu diving over playing. The recent trend toward more focused and mostly analogue gear with actual knobs is somewhat of a relief. Probably sacrilege to mention this at ground zero for G.A.S. but at this point in my life I'm not sure I care that much anymore whether my amp sounds like a Bassman or a Plexi or a Triple Rec. Frankly most of these things sound fucking fantastic. I just want to commit to one and get on with it.
I have this and the SLO100R that just cane out. I’m waiting on the next gen Fractal Audio rack unit AFX 4, before jumping back in on the rack effects. I might be tempted to get another AFX3 Turbo 🤦🏼♂️😂
@@JohnWiku true but I don’t do drugs, music is the drug for my soul and I can sit and look at a stack of $100s and not feel a thing 😂. Bills get paid every month so I might as well enjoy the reward of working hard. Can’t take it with ya. 🙃
@@jlbaxe if you got it, ($) enjoy it. I have accumulated a lot of higher end gear over the years. Doesn’t need it. It is all analog pre amp on one side 1/4 jacks L/R and added Amp/ IR sim through XLR. You can bypass the ir by holding the switch for a couple secs.
Beautiful piece of gear, but its performance is contingent on the power amp you use. Personally, I’d rather have the Soldano SLO-R so you get the full deal
@@bigriff9946 Yup, i guess it's a youtube thing, not intended by Rabea. He should check about the youtube requirement about LUFS sound level before uploading. It's easy to find what level sound should be to avoid youtube compression.
Sorry guys. It’s a UA-cam delight I’m afraid. It’s happened to some of my videos before too. I’ll go in and see if there’s anything I can do in future videos. It’s rather irritating tbh.
@@RabeaMassaad yeah from what i understand, youtube turns your video down when it peaks over -14LUFs, its very annoying and can be quite distracting. Just have to test staying under that and see if the compression goes away.
Sorry I think it’s UA-cam compression ruining audio again. I think I need to look into the ideal level to bounce videos for UA-cam because it’s happened before
I was never really into the Soldano sound. I went the Custom Audio 3+ SE route a long time ago and still use it today, even direct with IRs. I did have the X88R and the Caswell X99 but didn't really enjoy the sound that much.
For all the bells and whistles this had, for there to NOT be digital recall seems like a choice that's going to narrow its applications quite a bit. I know it's by no means simple to put digital controls on analog switching but it certainly can be done and would have turned this box into a production beast instead of what it is, which is kind of a niche rackmount product.
There needs to be a correction about the IRs. Either someone loaded different ones on this unit or someone edited the names . When the demo is using them in every example this needs clarification. This is an unusually poor video from a normally reliable guy.
What a terrible review, what are you playing it through? What fx ? Why the lazy everything on 5 crap. Why not say what the cabs in the irs are. Why not play it in to a power amp. You made it sound bad and that is difficult with this pre.
You’re hearing it straight into an interface from the XLR outs my guy. Regarding the cabs. I didn’t know what they were and does it really matter, surely it matters more how they sound as to what speaker they are. Lastly. I dialled it in to my tastes. If you thought that sounded bad. Good for you. But I play things my way on my channel. You don’t have to watch and listen. Either way, thanks for watching
I think it is wonderful. everyone has gotten so lazy and people give up great tone because of there laziness and will trade wonderful tones like this for crap just because it is small and they don't have to work at all to move it.
Yeah, the problem with modern music is how small and light the gear is! Art that weighs more is better, it's just a fact of physics. The mass gravitationally attracts more intrigue, which is floating around on particulates in the ozone - but small, lightweight gear doesn't have enough mass to hold onto it so it makes for crappy music. So I only listen to music made on really heavy gear. I can actually hear when the artists try to trick us by putting weights on top of their lightweight gear tho, my ears are pro-level so I can just hear stuff like that Plus when the gear is super heavy, it means only the bands with enough money to move it all can tour, which is also super helpful. I don't want to listen to poor people make music, yuck. Or people with bad backs. I just want music made on heavy gear from people who can spend lots of money moving it around and have good backs to move it thanks

The X88-IR is so nice, Rabea filmed it twice 🤣
Great bit of marketing poetry .
Love the old school rack gear and the Soldano just the ultimate.

Man, that's a massive sounding unit! Awesome playing as usual🤘😎
I've never noticed this before, but all the knobs go up to 11! Such a cool little touch
Rabea has cracked the code of Time and is moving backwards. I allow it 😂❤
Sounds massive! Lot of harmonic overtones. Very recto-ish which isn’t surprising.
It does indeed sound pretty nice. But I´m not sure if it`s 2800 quid kind of nice.
Rack is back baby. RACK. IS. BACK !!
Well, I’m going to need that.

@RabeaMassaad You can hear the bass compressing the guitar. I bet it's a thumpy THICCC sound in the room. Sounded great!
Dragged out an old Lexicon Vortex. That rack sound is very nice once again. Yes, it's time.
the Vortex is one of the very, very few pieces of rack gear that has no modern equivalents. glad I got two in my collection!
Great video! Thank you!
What overdrive/distortion pedal did you use in this video? Sounds great. Thank you in advance for your help.

How does it compare soundwise to the Astro-20?
I hope rack is back I’m tired of only digital
Lovely tones, what’s your signal chain here? Are you using plugins for verb or hardware?
Such a unit should have a built in display and no need to do any configuration via computer...I want my digitechs from the 90s back;-)
The software stuff is certainly an afterthought, as it should be

We miss White penguin guitar 🥹🥹
Editor software is similar to the Friedman pedals.
Synergy engineers the software for several companies.
I think this is the only way I'm going to afford the Soldano sound. Buy the preamp and run it through cheap power amps to my half stack
What about synergy?
@G40s_WW there probably who built that preamp lol
As an 80s guy, of course i would love to have such a classic amp in my home studio. But for me it's simply too expensive....
We can hear a compressor on the crunch and lead sounds...it's quite obvious ! where does it come from ?

It almost feels like an auto-gain thing. Slow…
Watching further, sounds like there’s probably something before hitting the AD converters for the IR part.
He also uses an “in-room” reverb type of thing on most of his tones
