Why do you always exchange money, you can use your UK visa card in any shop. You should have informed your bank that you be traveling to South Africa that's all. It's not safe having a lot of cash on you.
He can also use his bank card on an South African cash machine and withdraw enough cash to use.
It's also not safe to be announcing all the time that he's going to exchange money. He should just do it quietly.
