Just re-discovering Edmund Rubbra. His music is wonderful. I previously knew of his works for the Church, but this shows him in a completely different light.
Not just Eric Ohlsson! The piano playing by Timothy Hoekman is also excellent. Rubbra was a fine pianist himself, and he wrote beautifully for the instrument.
What beggars belief is that there at at the time of writing two petty minded morons who gave this the thumbs-down. Never ceases to amaze me how many profoundly stupid people there are out there. If you click on a link to an oboe sonata what exactly were you expecting to find? Some indescribably awful rap noise pollution? Difficult to imagine how you could not like this gorgeous yearning music - and even if it is not to your taste, why bother to vote negatively? It is beyond pathetic.
