The keyboardist / synth / sampler guy was a genius. Nobody else can do stuff like he did. Lyrics were real good, drums were real good, but jesus christ the synth guy was on a near Hendrix level. Mark di Gli Antoni, or something like that.
Mr. Mohagany Agree completely. Absolute genius level. I can't count the number of times I've heard a riff or bass note or drum beat from some random song and am drawn back to these guys. I often wonder how many artists and bands have pulled something from these guys. The numbers of TV shows and or movies that could have placed one of their songs in some scene to catch the perfect mood is beyond fascinating to me. I know they have been placed in a few here and there from years ago, but this music is timeless and still relevant. I just hope that this group can resonate with a younger generation that is involved with musical placement. It could fit on so many current levels in today's entertainment offerings.
Absolutely, he shined and produced aces when the deck was stacked against him. Check him out on Facebook and Instagram he's very active on both, he started every morning with a new song for about a week, it was really cool waking up to his music. He's always throwing out new stuff, he's a music factory.
Been a Soul Coughing fan for years but I’m just now getting around to El Oso. This whole track is amazing, but Mike especially stands out on this one. Legendary vocal take
no shit...the last band that carved a hole through reality like this band was.....led zepplin..I was there..no one could have imagined LZ's imagination of the blues...no one could have imagined soul coughings imagining of rock, blues, jazz and soul...and hip hop..they were the lz of their time..too bad their were so many ways of getting information in the nineties..in the sixties..radio and lp's ..that was it....and we all followed.. SC could have been the LZ of their time if...
I've been listening to Mike Doughty's new stuff, and concluded this groove is NOT his. I checked out the work of each band member, and the real sound comes from Mark de gli Antoni.
You all do know that he covers all of this in The Book of Drugs, yes? It's a bit manic and can be a difficult read as there seems to be little chronological order to it, but it explains a lot. Yes, he admits to being an addict and a dick, but there's many sides to the story.
Frederick Dains - have not read his book. Honestly probably won't. I saw them 2x and had tix to them playing with Morphine, the week before Mark Sandman died. ='( I've read Doughty interviews and he's utterly dismissive of Soul Coughing. He's not the 1st junkie to lose his band, but I cannot name someone less gracious about it. Honestly. and I've seen him since. Him saying SC makes his skin crawl, in turn makes mine too. He ruined his brand for me. Musicians need us, we don't need them. Its sad.
Gee...weird huh. I thought there were a few interesting things in horse tricks...but I guess it was just a golden era for them, it all came together...either that or they'd scored some wicked peyotl....
Mark De Gli Antoni's only good work was with Soul Coughing. I have Horse Tricks, it's like a half-assed drum and bassless instrumental heap of nothing. Love the man to death though. What a sampler wizard. Seb Steinberg is doing some rad shit. I heard his bass / harpsichord cover of I Kissed A Girl. love it! Doughty has some dope ass solo shit, and haven't heard too much of Yuval lately but he's still keeping the groove...
yeah their magic was really in making music together which is why it's almost possible to believe doughty when he says it was him driving and shaping the whole thing.. not that hes not a dick
This song kicks so much rockin' ASS It's unbelievable.......I keep listening to this over , and over again
Just had an old roomate pass away, everyday after work this was our jam. #R.I.P
This is just about the best badass-walk-down-the-hall song there is.
Dude..im a car guy...best driving song EVER..
Hardest most ambiguous song for any application. If you're confused ring the eskimo at the station.
@@ageeben only macrkel that paid her taxes
here in 2023 still head bobbin
that driving 8th note just gets me going
Found these guys way too late. They were great.
So nostalgic for me listened to soul coughing in the 90s as a kid!
Haven't listened to this for like 5 years. Way better than what I remember and I remember greatness
It’s time to listen again
The keyboardist / synth / sampler guy was a genius. Nobody else can do stuff like he did. Lyrics were real good, drums were real good, but jesus christ the synth guy was on a near Hendrix level. Mark di Gli Antoni, or something like that.
Amen brother.

2024 and still relevant, this track 👌🏼
Probably my favorite song of theirs. It wasn't at first though. So goddamn catchy. Such a great fucking album.
Agreed 100%
Best album I ever bought
Punchy as f..k!
Absolutely Amazing, one of my all time favorite songs!
Been a Soul Coughing fan for years but I’m just now getting around to El Oso. This whole track is amazing, but Mike especially stands out on this one. Legendary vocal take
I concur, tis a badass jam. My favorite soul coughing song
do you still like the song?
this is my absolute favorite by them
Doughty remaking these tunes on a solo record is ridiculous. They're perfect.
Smoooooothest groove ever.
This groove has been in my head for like 20 years. It’s nearly perfect, like John Bonham on ludes.
Still genius and fresh, A decade or two later.
Closer to two now. Holy shit.
or 3...
St. Louise scares me. Man, I love this song.
This song makes me feel spiritual. No words can come close to describing why this is such a great piece of art 😅
I've always loved this song.
Some one finally added this song thank you, its my favorite by them
I always thought that soupahhhhhh was about the BASS, banged it
great song , !!!!! period ! damn band
You don't use words like that St. Lousie is listening
I had a dream once that Amon Tobin did a remix of this and most of the rest of their tracks.
Best track on El Oso

SC could have been the LZ of their time if...
This is the first song I play every time I smoke
I've been listening to Mike Doughty's new stuff, and concluded this groove is NOT his. I checked out the work of each band member, and the real sound comes from Mark de gli Antoni.
Really? This is hype
Holy crap. For 20 years I thought this song was called St Louis is listening.
Absolutely........
I wonder if Doughty is as sad he destroyed his band as we are.
+Jake Eff it was his drug abusing bandmates who destroyed the band
rebjiii False. He's a junkie. Read interviews with him. He's a world class b1tch. Read interviews. It's sad.
+Jake Eff he used to be a junkie....Mike is no longer a junkie...he's clean and sober now
You all do know that he covers all of this in The Book of Drugs, yes? It's a bit manic and can be a difficult read as there seems to be little chronological order to it, but it explains a lot. Yes, he admits to being an addict and a dick, but there's many sides to the story.

I could be YOUR babydoll
Reminds me of Morphine
Wow. You really know your shit.
both bands were pioneers on the original sound they made. but completely distinct.
Gee...weird huh. I thought there were a few interesting things in horse tricks...but I guess it was just a golden era for them, it all came together...either that or they'd scored some wicked peyotl....
