Thanks dude I'm sure they are 😁

Great review, just got this as a cheap pick up because my main got pinched, loved how when you had it in clean tone you looked confused in what you was trying to play, clicked in some distortion and you looked right at home, endless tunes played from the heart, earned a sub great work
Thanks man much appreciated, oh man sorry to hear about that. Haha not hard to confuse me and thanks for the sub :)
Just orderd the guitar online! I started playing 2 months ago on the cheapest electric guitar you can iamgine. I didnt know if i could stick to playing and learning so i just used an old cheap ass thing i bought at a garage sale a long time ago but now i want something decent and this review impressed me enough to order it. Cant wait for it! Thanks for the great review!
Awesome I'm glad you liked my review for the money it's a great guitar and I still use it, hope you enjoy it
@@leearmitage Thanks dude! I hope someday i will be as good as you at playing 🤘🤘🎸
Thanks, that shouldn't take too long 🤘🧙♂️🤘
Such a nice looking guitar, decided to buy it after i saw your video! Keep it up man
Thanks man, yeah it is I still use it as it plays nice it's a great guitar for the price
The ibanez gio stuff is surprisingly good. Our guitarist has a GSZ120 that he hot rodded a while back. It's great.
Yeah they're good guitars for the money, I've updated the pickups in this one
I picked up an older model of this in a pawn shop around 15 years ago for the price of a tank of gas, and loved it. It was amazing fit and finish and played like a dream compared to my Epiphone LP. The pickups weren't as good as these new ones, but still chugged along nicely. My daughter has it now. I miss it, but I don't want to ask for it back so i might just buy a new one. This new model would make a fantastic gift for new and experienced players.
Oh nice one. Good to see you passed it down to your daughter. For the price of these just get another one lol. I still have this one and it still chuggs
You rock. I just wish i could have understood all you said. {that's all my bad) I'm in the USA and it was the first time hearing someone with your accent. Thanks for reviewing this instrument I think i'm going to go get one. Any ideas on a good amp to go with this. I'm a stay at home player. Its just for me, I have no one to play with.
Thanks for your comments Danny. Sorry for my Yorkshire accent. For the price it's a good guitar. Amp wise there are plenty of options the Joyo Zombie or Vivo or good options paired with a harley benton 1×12 or 2x12 if you have the space or if you want a combo from what I understand the katana or fender mustang are also good amps
That os a nice looking Gio! Never saw such a beauty! I always thought the Gios were superbasic, but this one is awesome \m/
Yeah plays really nice, I've upgraded the pickups on it
Hey man. Great video. I was thinking of buying this for myself, i am a beginer basically, i know a few riffs and can play some songs. (Some slipknot, korn, system of a down). The main question is: is this suitable for drop C/B tuning?, i have 0 experience with guitar hardware. The guitar will be hooked straight to my focusrite scarlet paired with 2 yamahas hs8, and will be using only with ableton (a few vst amps). Is the guitar worth it for my setup? Or should get something like a strat or cheap schecter?
Yeah it would be totally worth it for that set up and as from drop c/b tuning, I currently use it in drop c with no issues as with any guitar you will need to put a thicker string on the low string and may need to adjust the action on it too
Great review and you've got a sweet metal tone there too! 👍
Thanks buddy 😁🤘
Hi... i bought mine before seeing your video, i don't know if mine has bad pickup's, or if i have make too much expectations.... i feel a lack of power just with the over drive of the amp (fender 100 champion)... i don't know i love the guitar... everything even if light... i don't know... if someone can awswer me that...
Great video... Thanks
Thanks man.
Yeah the stock pickups are a little muddy I changed for some Seymour Duncan's I went for the JB and 59 set and now it growls
@@leearmitage fits like no other... but i have decide to let her go ... maybe a new squier contemporary telecaster will substitute her 👍👍👍... a crazinees cross my mind and i have bought another ibanez but i have to work on her also, but without changing the pick-up's 🙄😮😂... keep rocking and/or metaling🙂 ...
Thanks man
Enjoy the squier bud
Oh which ibanez did you get
Always mate to old to change haha 🤘🧙♂️🤘
@@leearmitage Hi Man
Contemporary Squier, for now, just dreaming about 😀.
Ibanez GSA60 ... bought Her used, but like new...
some stuff to adjust🤞 , high of the strings etc ,,, she needs some care and atention..no time yet.... Playable but... i think you know... anyway she is not alone at home!!! 😀
keep rocking and rolling
👍🤞👌
Nothing wrong with dreaming
Oh tell me about it I have a Dean Razorback that needs a set up as the Floyd rose needs adjusting but I'll wait to do that when I change the strings, which I will do as a video
🤘🧙♂️🤘
Thank you for your kind words. The rig I used was nux od into the joyo zombie into a Harley Benton 1x12 with a v30
@@leearmitage Suena super!!! Gracias Amigo. Aunque son recursos que no están a mi alcance y nivel de aficionado. Felicidades por la información.
No problem happy to help. Although none of these are expensive
This guitar looks pretty good and it sounds nice for it's price, I have been playing Spanish guitar for 5 years and some other string instruments. It was now that I decided to buy an electric guitar, this one in particular seems like a good option since I don't want to spend a lot of money, let's see if something drops during Christmas 😅
If you are looking at getting your first electric guitar you will not go far wrong with one of these
@@leearmitage Which one do you recommend? The truth is that I have learned something about electric guitars but I don't know much about it and it would be good to hear recommendations from people with more experience.
@@leearmitage I can't afford something so expensive due to my current situation, so I would like to see more options between 200-300 dollars maximum.
In that price range you are looking at something like this one or a Jackson Dnky, or if a Les Paul or SG is more your style then take a look at the epiphones
@@leearmitage Oh thank you, i'll take a look at those too
Hey Lee. Im not sure if you'll ever see this message. But my question is: I am planning to get this guitar as my first one ever (I have never touch a guitar in my life) and I am willing to learn and super excited about it. Should I get it just as it is? For now I have 0 knowledge about electric guitars so I can't think about changing pick ups etc ... xD
Hi Vasile, this would make excellent first guitar it's easy to use no tremalo to worry about, it's not to heavy, and plays really good, I still have mine and play it I wouldn't worry too much about the pickups while you're learning they will fo you just fine
@@leearmitage Thank you so much for your answer. Then I am looking forward to order it :D. P.S I love your videos :D
Happy to help, thanks man much appreciated let me know how you get on 😁
I have one on a FedEx truck out for delivery as I type this, got it used on ebay for $133 delivered! I have a Demmelition King V too in Black/Silver w/Floyd Rose, got it used on ebay also last July for $314!
Awesome man hope you enjoy it, I've got the red and black one no Floyd rose it's a great guitar
I have the 2018 GRG121 and it has a 5-way selector switch.
Nice one
Me2
Looks like it plays pretty well mate. Do you like Ibanez's thin necks?
Yeah mate it plays pretty good and sounds even better now I've changed the pickups. Yeah I do like the Ibanez style necks
I might get one,how is the pick ups and is the neck nice and thin and flat??ty
@joehervey84 the neck is very nice and flat and thin and easy to play pickups aren't bad
@@leearmitage do you find they sound better closer or far from strings?
Personally for me closer
@@leearmitage cool thanks sometimes with other passive pickups a medium distance produces greater dynamics
Yeah some can all depends on the pickups
Sound really good.. What kind of effects that you use it...
thanks man, if I remember rightly, the amp was the joyo zombie. I used the tone city blue angle on cleans and the nux od3 on high gain
Awesome, i love mines, I got it used. It needs some fret work I think, but yea, ... It's awesome 👍👍👍
Yeah mine needed some fret work and I also changed the pickups too
Yea, mines, the first frets buzz and the 2nd and 3rd on the low E ... Suxxx, but yea, it still plays great other than that ...
Mine was a bit lower down but got it sorted and plays great
You fukn rock mate what band do you play in that's some of the heaviest guitar I've heard in ages and wicked guitar collection
Thanks dude, I've not played in a band for years but here's a link to my old band it's part of a 5 track demo we did back in 91 ua-cam.com/video/-R_sTlXYrkU/v-deo.html
@@leearmitage I just bought this guitar (mine is matt black, looks evil) so its great to see this cool video, you got a great sound from this axe, great riffs too.
Great to hear your old band too, I go back that far myself & I think I remember Discarnate. Mega heavy doom death, production reminds me of demo of another good old UK band of similar style, Decomposed, they used the classic Boss HM2 on their demo, what distortion did u guys use? (it sounds similar) Can I get a copy of your demo in some format?
Hi George thanks for checking out my video. Yeah for the money you can't go wrong with this guitar.
I'm going to put up the full 5 track demo on here just need to find some more pics. I used to use a Korg A5 guitar processor in a Marshall solid state head with a hiwatt 4×12. The other guitarist use a Marshall Valvestate amp into a Marshall cab think he use a pedal in front just can't remember which one. If you want a copy of the demo send me a dm on here or fb Instagram with your email address
Would you recommend this guitar for more experienced players and not just beginners?
Yeah I would, I consider myself expected not good just experienced lol, but yeah it's a pretty decent guitar with room to upgrade if you want to
Hello friend, sorry for being so tiresome and I asked, but I have some doubts and if you can clarify them for me. I'll buy the Ibanez guitar that you have but ... my thing, my style is not metal, my type of rock is soft rock, or rock and roll and kind of relaxed, like bands like Aerosmith, Queen, Men G, Soda Stereo and so on, do you think the 121 can work for me to play solos of songs from previous bands? I love that guitar, and well that's my big question. I hope it solves the doubt for me. Greetings and blessings💪
Hi man no problem always happy to try and help. I would say yes this guitar would work well for the lower gain rock styles, as the stock pickups have a low output and the guitar is easy to play. Hope this helps stay safe 🤘🧙♂️🤘
@@leearmitage ohh friend thanks, for answering I am your fan and I had that doubt to buy that guitar then =), I was worried that I don't like metal but with what you just told me you made my day. Greetings
Anytime time man, always happy to answer queries thanks man appreciate that you're a fan 😁
Seen some people reckon this guitar's a bit fragile. Wondering if you've had any trouble with damage to the body for reasons that aren't your fault?
Cheers
Hi james, personally I've had no issues with it had it almost 2 years and still going strong and still makes and makes an appearance from time to time
Is it good to make bends and vibatos? Because I have one yamaha that the neck is so narrow that I almost can't make any movement.
Yeah it is, I have no issues doing bends etc and I've used this guitar on several recordings too
Would you recommend this for a beginner? I've never touched an electric before in my life. I was and still am looking at the Ibanez GRX40. It has a floating bridge and trem though, which I've been told to avoid.
Thus us ideal for a beginner and for the price it's a pretty decent guitar I still have mine with a couple of upgrades, yeah for a beginner I avoid floating trem as they can be a pain
@@leearmitage Thank you 🙏
Anytime man
do you prefer jackson js11 instead of this one for heavy metal ? Which one is better
I've not tried a JS11 but I would say both would be pretty good for metal, I ha e upgraded the pickups in the Ibanez and it's made a big difference
@@leearmitage this is will be my first guitar thanks so much for your suggestion
No problem always happy to answer questions and queries
Great vid man! Keep it up.
Thanks dude glad you like my content
Dude you look like the singer and guitarist for Soulfly
Haha I wish
Max Cavalera is his name.
The pick ups on this guitar sound very much alike my Ibanez RG320's powersound humbuckers. Considering it's been almost 15 years apart between the build of the guitars (my RG was built around 2003-05), that Ibanez pretty much equips their budget end guitars with the same quality stock humbucker?
You are possibly correct on that I'm not quite sure. Although I am going to put some Seymour Duncan pickups in this very soon
@@leearmitage Yeah, the first logical upgrade would have to be the pick ups. They aren't bad but they could be a whole lot better, all in all, they serve their purpose and form a useable guitar signal
edit: The Ibanez wiki says the humbuckers are Ibanez IBZ-6 (H) passive/ ceramic - there is not much information about those, so I guess it's Ibanez' latest cheapo humbucker
Yeah that's what found too I've got a set of JBs and 59 to replace them with
I'm gonna grab one of these in the next week or two and put in some EMG pickups for something different than passives
Awesome sounds like a plan
They're actives
Most EMGs are not all
My first electric I Just bought one second hand but was never played for 60$ and I bought it and a small peavy rage 158 with that amp will it work to get me going with THIS GUITAR I got both for 100$ with the cable and a soft case and do I need a pedal for that dirty sound If so any you recommend?? I’m on a budget the wife thinks I’m to old to learn haha but wanna play some heavy shit my whole life !!!!!
You got a bargain there mate. The Joyo extreme pedal is a good cheap pedal you can get a lot of good tones from it
I want to buy this guitar too. Can you recommend it to me. How beautiful is a guitar?
I would recommend this guitar. It plays and feels great for the price point I still use mine alot
@@leearmitage Ibanez GRG121DX Seymour Duncan 59 & JB Pickup Swap .....I watched your video. Do you need to change pickups
That's all down to personal preference, are you a new player or have you been playing a while what style of music do you play
@@leearmitage 3 , 4 years .... metallica Guns N' Roses vb.
You maybe ok with the stock pickups maybe wait to change them
would you recommend it for death/thrash metal ! a beginner
defiantly would recommend it for thrash/death metal for a beginner although you may want to change the stings for 10's or 11's depending on what tuning you are going for
Would you recommend it for pop/rock songs?
yes I would neck pickup for pop stuff and bridge for rock
Thank you, i will buy it today or tomorrow!
I don't think you will be disappointed, if the one you get is anything like mine the action is good and the neck is thin and is easy to play and I'm no shredder
you have to lower the humbucker of the neck and raise the bridge so that it balances and does not cover the mast to the bridge because it has a lot of force and you notice some difference between the positions of the selector Is correct?
Definitely a difference in the selector not changed the position of either pickup yet I need to change the strings and level the frets first
¡thank you lee armitage! ¡Rock on! 🎸🤟🏻
Definitely will too old to change that lol 🤘
how's the tuners? I'm on a tight budget and someone sold this guitar used at quite good price.
They are not too bad at all not the best but definitely not the worst
@@leearmitage what pickups did you put on and was it a big difference?
I put some Seymour Duncans in, a 59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. Yeah huge difference lot less muddy and more definition
Does this guitar have bad hum? I’m just paranoid because my squier hisses like crazy
As in pickup hum ? no the pickups are not that powerful lol just a bit of fret buzz which I will be addressing in an up coming video
Lee Armitage k cool a lot of cheap guitars have bad hum even in humbuckers
@@Jdb_ I know what you mean but mine has been ok could be a lucky one lol
It costs in one of the Estonian guitar shops only 185€ which is dirt cheap! I will buy it the next month with my laptop just for the hobby, simple riffs ECT. :D I will suck anyway I'm too old to learn guitar now should of started in my early years with notes and stuff
That sounds like a good price., and for the price point it's a good guitar. You are never too old to learn check out Steve Stine he does some really good stuff for beginners upwards
@@leearmitage I just remembered I also had nevalra guitar pick got it from the show in tallinn with a CD autographed but I lost it would of been cool to play with it :D I'm more willing to learn simple death metal riffs but nothing too fancy
Cool I'll see what I can do
Hey ive ore ordered it for 215$ its totally new not second handed so does still needs the pickup changes?
That's all down to personal preferences, if you like the stock ones then stick with them
@@leearmitage so they don't have rany problems do they?
No just found they weren't for me I found them a little muddy sounding, but the pickups themselves worked fine
@@leearmitage thankyou so much how many months you think it takes to be average on playing?
How long is a piece of string lol, just keep practicing for a while every day starts with the basics don't rush things and try and learn something new each week or so
Do you find the more expensive ibenez to be more comfortable to handle and easier to play?
I do find my RGRT easier to play you can tell a difference the neck is a bit thicker on the GRG but is still not a bad guitar for the price point. I will be changing the pickups in that one so look out for that video
Does it stay in tune?
Pretty much yeah it does
Exactly the pickups aren't the best, I've since swapped them out
I want to buy a guitar and I need your opinion. This is the 121DX model, should I buy that or give 30 more euros and buy the 170DX model? The 170DX has tremolo and HSH magnets, the 121DX has HH magnets. Are those 30 euros worth giving them?
Hi Zisis I've not played the 170DX if you want a tremolo then yes I would pay the 30 euros for it. What I would say is if you are able go to a local music store that has both in and try them both out and see which you prefer.

Hey man no need to apologise. With that setup you will get near that tone not the exact tone but somewhere near as Jim Root uses Orange amps which is also a British amp. I would also get an overdrive pedal may the Joyo ultimate drive or a Demon Tube screamer both a inexpensive and good overdrive hope this helps 🤘🤘🤘😁

Greetings, how's the action of the strings on this guitar ? is it above 1,8 mm ? and how the guitar feels, does she have those shitty sounds like bzzz, or dead notes ?
Hi breathcollector, the low E string is about 1.75mm since I've leveled the frets almost all the fret buzz has gone and not found any dead notes
@@leearmitage but u had to make a set up to have a good effect ? I'm about to buy some guitar, have 3 options- Cort kx5 katana, this ibanez and schecter sgr c1. What's your opinion on this ?
I've not played the other 2 what I would suggest is if you can if they have these in a local store try them out. I've played a couple of schectures and both were good played well but high price bracket than this Ibanez never played any cort guitars
hells yeah \,,/
Thanks man
hi what tuning was there?
If I remember rightly I think I had this in D Standard at the time, it's now in drop C
so I'm betting that Ibanez has a thinner neck than your Solar then? :)
I'm not a fan of anything with the "Gio" name, they're often regarded to have loose tuners/bridges that just don't stay in tune. But here guess you rocked that Gio pretty much hard enough. :) \m/
So far I've had no issues with it apart high frets. Yeah it's a little bit thinner and slightly different profile . I am going to change the pickups in the next week or too that's the main weakness I've found on it
