My old job made a rule that you had to raise your hand and wait to be called on if you had to go to the bathroom. Like we were children in school. There was a guy in his 60s that had only been there for about a month. He raised his hand and after 5 minutes no one called on him. It was a factory. He proceeded to shit right there in the floor in front of his machine just to protest. They tried to reprimand him but he went right to the office and told owner of the company that if he kept treating his employees like children then they will start behaving like children... MY FUCKING HERO

My senior year of high school, my principal enacted a “tardy lockdown.” At the bell, teachers had to lock their doors and kids had to go to the auditorium if they were late. One day, the bell rang while I was outside of my classroom, teachers locking eyes with me, and locking the door in my face. I had to walk to the other side of the very large school to the auditorium, get lectured with 50 other students, wait in line for a pass, and instead of being a few seconds late for class, I was over 20 minutes late.

Had a math teacher in HS that told us we couldn’t use the bathroom during her class as it was a, “waste of her time” so I would frequently use the restroom before the bell rang for class to start as I wouldn’t have the opportunity for over an hour after. Multiple times I came back right as the bell rang and even though my backpack was in her classroom and I had asked her to go before her lesson started which she replied was fine she still would make me go get a tardy slip which required me to walk across the school same issue. Made me at least 10 min late when I could have been there right as the bell rang. Very frustrating

We had an anonymous bully reporting system implemented. The bullies started reporting their victims because they found out a report was an automatic three day suspension. My principal wasn't very smart...she ended up a janitor in a nearby school after getting fired/pushed out by the school board that same year. She had a lot of other issues (like bad teachers and poor online class liaisoning) so they decided it was time for her to get replaced.

At my school a lot of students would show up late in the morning
So to combat this they set up a system where you go to the office and they charge you 5 dollars for anyone that was late and the teachers as soon as the bell rang they locked the doors and any kid that was 1 minute late had to pay the fine and if they didn’t they would charge it to the parents account.
More than half of the school had at least 300-1000 dollars they owed most students didn’t tell their parents about this because they didn’t want there parents to know that they were late
But some kids would pay off the late fee but couldn’t afford breakfast or lunch so most kids would go hungry for the whole day
Parents later found out and sued the school and district

Well shit, because of the stoneman douglass shooting, we students who go to school in what I think amounts up to the entire broward county have to wear IDs now in schoo grounds.
There's a rule similar to your school in which if any student loses their ID, they have to "pay" 5 dollers to get a new one. Reason why I put pay in quotation marks is because we are reqiured to wear IDs, it's not exactly "paying" because that would imply that we are wilfully buying something.
But it's not buying if we have to give money for something that we have no choice in wearing.
If parents were able to sue your school and district, I wonder if our parents can do the same with this stupid ID rule.

My High school implimented a tardy rule where once the last bell rang, if you came in late you were given a red slip to take down to the office and sign a paper about being late to class. It was basically to shame kids for being late. As you can imagine, most kids just ditched if they knew they were late. Attendance plummeted, as did grades and the rule mysteriously vanished after only a few months of being in effect.

Then you notify the parents no? If it's not working you suspend for some time and if that doesn't work you kick out... In my school you had the right to be late 3 times per semester, if you were more often late than that you would get an extra homework (reading a book and make an analysis of it) or you had to do the dishes of the school during lunch or clean classes after school and let your parents sign your agenda where the lateness was written down. if you had six you would be suspended for like a day or two and your parents had to come to school and if you continued they would gently make sure you (and your parents) understood it would be preferable for you to change schools... so yeah and we were a normal school not a very strict or private one. sorry for the english it's not my first language.

@@morganeh2153 so unpaid labor for dishes, policy that relies upon circumstances (if you get a mild case of the flu, it would likely break this...let alone depending upon how strict the methods are (like only a few seconds or a minute late), and unpaid extra work for the employees that is not monitored...
      what could possibly go wrong?
did your school really say that they wanted kids who actually showed up to class(albeit late) to go to a different school?

    • @morganeh2153
      @morganeh2153 5 років тому

@@nathanielbass771 if often late yes. Those were the rules you AND your parents signed every year. As for unpaid labour, if you get punished at home you have to do shores too it's the same really. The rules haven't changed btw. And late well the school closed its doors at 08h40 wich is when the bell rings so if you came at 08h41 you might get lucky and they still see you and let you in otherwise nope and it's the main enterance with a note and for class, well as long as you werent more than 5 min late it was ok really. Only one person ever got told to leave for that reason when I was there. I don't know but when I hear stuff like constant tardiness and other I don't get it it just rarely happens in my country. And those punishments aren't really harsh as you have loads of chances.

My school was the size of a small college plaza. They asked middle schoolers to cross property in 5 minutes even though they had no reliable way to cross the property with rubbing shoulders. Each class you were late to was a tardy 3 tardies resulted in dention. All of my schools had similar processes. The state fixed the absence loophole to my highschools policy we figured out it was better to miss than be late. I was graduated at that point.

Now to be fair... a lot of us are used to our supervision WANTING us to do exactly what they told us to do. Like at one point our production (Aircraft maintenance here) wanted us to compile a list of everything we could conceivably need if ANY thing broke on an aircraft. The reason being that they wanted to make a mobile fly away kit for when we weren't at home station with every part, tool, or ground equipment we'd need. Now naturally doing this to a T was ludicrous, but being in the military, we shrugged, and just made a list that might as well have said, "A flight line and an age yard." We need 4 engines in case they go bad, a truck with a trailer hitch for this inspection, aircraft stands, test stands that weigh upwards of 2 tons, a genie lift, you name it. Surprised no one put airplane on their list to be a smart ass.

My old school made kids take the caps off of every bottle purchased from the lunch room - water or not - as a result of the whole water bottle flipping/challenge thing. Not too long after this happened, a ton of kids would “spill” their drinks, hoping that they would stop taking the caps off of our bottles. The staff HATED this, but were reluctant to give us our caps back. After enough time went by (and after kids learned to flip their bottles upside down on the table, with the drink still in it) they finally ended up changing the policy. I understand their annoyance with the whole water bottle flipping thing but there were much better ways to handle all that.
Also if you’re wondering, the people who made sure *you* were the one typing in your lunch pin were the ones that took our caps - one by one, as we were being charged for our lunch.

I had a teacher who started with "No bathroom during class. You will go before" We got five minutes between classes. My school at the time (they built a bigger one that we moved into the next year) was a large, very disorganized maze. If you went to the bathroom before class you were going to be late if your class was in a different building. So me, the asshole I am, went before every single day and showed up late by like three minutes. When she went to write me up, I casually mentioned I'd just tell them that she bans us from basic bathroom rights. I'm entitled to pee when I need too. My class is an hour and fifty minutes. So she backed down and got rid of her rule.
Edit: I should also mention she had a rule that if you were late, she'd lock you out of the class. I'd bang on the door until she let me in.

So I was sent to detention once for not turning in homework and I was happier than any other kid in there since it meant I got 2 hours of free time to read in peace.

My school had lockers, enough for half the school, but they were reserved for 6th formers (highest 2 years of secondary school), which from a school of 1500 made up approximately 60 students. I asked for one, got refused, and the lockers just sat there gathering dust.

In my school, the lockers were all outside and so tiny, you couldn't fit a backpack or a normal sized bag in. They were more like small safes, but made of plastic and aluminium with rubbish locks and holes in the tops of them so they got damp, wet, and couldn't fit anything much. So people used them to horde food inside and stick rubbish in and no one actually used them. You also had to pay for these might I add. They just became areas for people to hang around in and vandalise so they began disappearing.

My school we were forced to never wear sweaters or jackets in school and to put it in their locker.
My problem with that is that I didn't get a locker until the end of the fucking school year. So during the winter I had to carry my heavy winter coat with me everywhere (I lived over a mile away with no one to take me to school) and I couldn't fit it in my bookbag because it consists of all my books, School Laptop and homework and gym clothes. So the fucking coat was not going to fit in there.
And don't get me started on how they had a Dress code for shoes as well, my boots weren't the right color so they'd right me up for it, I can't fit my normal fucking shoes in my bookbag because of all the school shit it needs to hold. And of course, people were making fun of me including the teachers who asked "why don't you just put it in your locker" after I give them the same exact response. I would also forget my coat in a different class sometimes so I'd be spend a while looking for it which makes me late to another class. Eventually everytime after Gym ended I never changed back cuz of how fucking packed my bag was, all staff members included principle would just let it slide for the next few years. But holy fuck they could've given me a fucking locker sooner

So , at my old school ( left after last year bc I moved ) they apparently banned backpacks . Bc of the year prior they had a drug issue ( kid got arrested for selling weed , school got in trouble ) and everyone was pissed , bc the lockers where so old , that the locks where really hard to unlock in the 5 minutes we had , and run to the other side of campus for class . So a lot of us just kept everything in our backpacks . Everyone went wild and took to insta when they found this out and the kids put up a pation to cancel it . I guess ( I didn’t go there this year , so I learned from getting told . ) that everyone brought backpacks anyway and they got confiscated. So they brought these big ass purses and bags and shi just to carry it .
The school brought backpacks like 2 months in because it was easier to sneak things in through the bags .
They also banned tampons , but that’s a different story .

5:52 Fun Fact: There was a time when students would carry books to and from school by putting a belt tightly around them to hold the books together, then they would sling the books over their shoulders and hold the belt at the front. I've seen this numerous times in old comic book stories. This method of carrying school books has never been commented on in any of the stories, which is why I believe it was copying real life. It was just accepted as *the* method of carrying school books, many years ago.

A private school I once attended made a "Hit Back" policy, where if one student hit another student, they could tell the teacher and be allowed to hit their attacker back. This rule lasted one day before they did this with a student with severe anger problems, hence why he'd punched one of his classmates in the shoulder to begin with. After being cornered by the teacher and with the entire class watching, the classmate he hit went up and socked him a good one in the chest. I don't know what they were expecting to happen, but at this point, the boy with anger issues just lost it and tackled his "hit backer", breaking his nose and splattering blood everywhere. Needless the say, the rule was lifted almost as soon as it came.

    I don't remember too much,
But when I was in elementary school.. we weren't allowed to talk during lunch time..
Or at least we had to whisper..
Like seriously... They had the principal stand up on a podium with a microphone and yell at anyone who talked too loud, and would make them stay after to wash the tables..
One day I was talking to a classmate and I like to dip my French fries into ranch.. she saw and thought I was "playing with my food" and called me out in front of the entire School .. of course Being in second grade.. I start crying out loud and everyone looked at me..
I was pulled out of the lunchroom and I was crying so much they called my parents... My mom came to pick me up and told the principal that it was a stupid rule
A week Later.. there was no longer a limit to how loud we can talk..
I think it's because more parents and teachers complained about it..
    {Honorable mention}
When I was in fifth grade at a different school..
Our teacher gave us 15 minutes to eat..we had 40 minutes of lunch
    It was our 'punishment'
I don't remember why.. but I think it was because we didn't line up on time... that..one..time..

This reminds me of the missing assignment policy when I went to middle school. If you had at least 3 missing assignments they would keep you at some designated tables all of lunch. The thing is was that if you didn't have missing assignments you were forced to go outside.
Yes, There was the exception of library passes but they often would be taken by a braty group of people that wouldn't let anyone else have them. Also it can be incredibly cold during winter. Let's just say that more then half the cafeteria was taken over by us supposed delinquents during the winter. I have no idea if they got rid of the rule. it's been years.
Honestly, the reason why I made sure I had 3 missing assignments at all times was because I would have less of a chance of my art work getting wreck due to bad weather and why go hunt for a pass that's probably already taken when you can guarantee that you don't have to go outside by just having a few missing assignments? (those assignments I actually had done but refused to turn in.)

1:37 You know, if people are 5 minutes late all the time, there's a very strong possibility that, you know, *you're just not giving people enough time to get from class to class.* Plus, whoever had the bright idea of banning the use of lockers was an idiot: At eight classes a day, and each book weighing around 5 lbs, that's 40 lbs of books, plus notebooks, pens, etc, so you're demanding that students lug 50 lbs worth of stuff all day long, including to lunch.

Not that big of a deal, but had a college professor who taught a 9am class...at a commuter college...and blew a gasket if you showed up late at all (I lived 45 minutes away, and parking was impossible most of the time).
Literally came in 5 minutes late once, real quiet, sat in seat closest to the door. He threw a fit and went to break early, then told me if I get there and the door is closed, just wait UNTIL THE TOP OF THE NEXT HOUR to come in. So if I'm 5 minutes late, he wants me to miss 55 more minutes.
So, from then on, if I was late, I just didn't come at all. Still passed the class and didn't have to deal with a control freak in a college class. I graduated. He quit one summer and even other faculty don't know what happened to him.

A team I was a part of regularly hired the same actor to play the same character no less than five or six times. One project in particular REALLY raised a few brows because, once the auditions ended, they asked all the other actors to remove their audition files (it was a public audition page, I didn't remove mine because I was a rebel). Supposedly this was to avoid clutter and confusion, but eyes really started darting when someone accused them of playing favorites.
The Director replied "There were actually a lot of good auditions and it was a close call."
The accuser asked "Can you name a few top-runners?"
Then the Director realized that, by having people delete their auditions, he couldn't back up his claim and reverted to the old "my memory is foggy" excuse.
I'll bet it seemed like a decent cover to him at the time, but that only made people MORE suspicious of him and his motives. Some actors never worked for him again after that. He has yet to repeat the same mistake, so I guess he learned his lesson.

The school district banned games on their official websites but then there’s a crap ton of unofficial websites which also have the same game so we just played it on there, and then when those got banned we either found more or downloaded VPNs. Then this smart kid found out that the school district computers only applied the new settings after you shut down your computer and then open it up. Like if a game is banned at like 3 pm but you turn off your computer at 3:30 then turn it on at 5 pm, only THEN will the new ban and stuff applied. So people just never shut down their computers so the system never updated, resulting in the remaining games never been banned. It was a waste of electricity charging it a long time and running the computer for forever, but it was worth it.
Edit 1: TLDR: ban some of our favorite stuff, were gonna find way after way to circumvent the ban until schools give up

We had a "no shorts allowed" policy. Of course, gym class was the exception. I think the school feared "daisy duke shorts" when they were popular- in the 1980s and 1990s. Girls were allowed to wear skirts that were fingertip length (i.e., arms to the side. If it went above the fingertips, you would have to wear shitty sweat pants).
Anyway, my entire school- the males anyway- colluded to wear kilts on the same day. We did this for a month. The school met with the seniors and the student government to address the problem.
We suggested the ban on shorts be lifted. The school said that they can't do that, as it may offend all 3 of the amish students- no that isn't exaggerated. We came to a compromise. Knee length, which meant it had to touch the knee.
Girls hated that. But they got to wear skirts.
Edit: the year this happened was 2014, when I was a senior.

Keep in mind, small town school in a city where the Amish live in several pockets. The policies were created by some stuck up prick when the school was built in the 1970s. Since the rule got repealed, there have been no more amish attendance.

The one story reminded me of my great great grandpa, who had actually served coincidentally. My mom and her brothers were on a walk with their grandpa and came across a rattlesnake. This badass grandpa strode forward, grabbed it behind the head, and snapped the vertebrae right behind the skull, killing it instantly.

Lemme just list some of the STUPID rules in my school:
-Students aren't allowed to carry their phone (teachers take them if they see them)
-No bathroom break first or last 10 minutes of class with a 3 minute transition time
-No lockers between classes only in the morning or afternoon. And no backpacks
    - No jackets
-No holes in jeans above your knees THEY LITERALLY MAKE KIDS PUT ZAXBY'S STICKERS ON STUDENT'S JEAND
-No drawing on yourself, even if it's just a note to self they have the "right" to write you up
