    Quizlet Review:
    The purpose of this video is to simplify hormones and their functions. I describe what a target cell is, receptors for hormones, and I compare steroid hormones with amino-acid based hormones and I make sure students know the difference between exocrine glands and endocrine glands. Then I group hormones based on how they affect blood levels of glucose, calcium, water, salt, and red blood cells. I go over a few hormones that affect blood pressure, and briefly describe cortisol's effects. I wrap up by describing 5 reproductive hormones, 2 lactation & milk let-down hormones, and growth hormone. It's a whirlwind 16 minute video, but I think it covers what you'd need to know for most pre-nursing type standardized exams (for example, the TEAS). In the Endocrine System playlist I have several more in-depth endocrine videos. Happy Studying!
    Hormones mentioned: insulin, glucagon, parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, aldosterone, antidiuretic hormone, epinephrine, cortisol, angiotensin II, natriuretic peptides, growth hormone, FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, prolactin, oxytocin.

    Thank you! This video is quick and as well so informative. You did such a good job of describing everything. As well as the blood vessel diagram! I am studying for the teas, and take them this Friday. I always keep getting mixed up with does it make bp increase or decrease. This is the ONLY video that I can say shows it all in one and makes it simple to memorize! Thank you!

    Hi! Just wanted to say I love your videos! I think that cortisol is released from the adrenal cortex, not the adrenal medulla. That's what I found at least in my TEAS book and the National Institute of Health. Is it interchangeable?

    • @chareka07
      @chareka07 2 роки тому +1

      The adrenal cortex produces hormones that controls sex (androgens, estrogens), salt balance in the blood (aldosterone), and sugar balance (cortisol). The adrenal medulla produces hormones involved in the fight-or-flight response (catecholamines, or adrenaline type hormones such as epinephrine and norepinephrine).
