  • Makhana Curry
    Ingredients
    For Masala
    Onion - 2 nos
    Chopped Tomato - 2 nos
    Cumin Seeds -1 tsp
    Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
    Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
    Chili Powder - 2 tsp
    Cashew Nuts
    Chopped Ginger
    Chopped Garlic
    Cardamom
    Cinnamon
    Clove
    Salt
    Water
    Butter
    For Cooking
    Makhana - 50 gms
    Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
    Onion - 1 no
    Fresh Cream
    Coriander Leaves
    Water
    Butter

    Method
    Heat butter in a pan, add the makhanas/ fox nuts
    Roast them till they are crispy
    Heat some butter in a saucepan, add the whole spices, ginger, garlic, green chilies and saute
    Add cashew nuts, onions, salt and saute the onions till they are golden brown
    Add tomatoes and saute along
    Add turmeric powder, chili powder and saute
    Once the masala is cooked, cool them
    Grind it to a fine paste by adding some water
    To the same saucepan, add butter, garam masala, onions and saute
    Once the onions are cooked, add the ground masala paste, add 1 cup of water
    Simmer the gravy for few minutes
    After few minutes, add the roasted makhanas
    Mix well and let it boil
    The Makhana curry is done, serve it hot with fresh cream and coriander leaves

    Today tried this fantastic healthy makana gravy. Really i had little doubt how it gonna to taste. But it was really awesome mam thankyou so much. My kids, me and hubby enjoyed this gravy with chapathi.

    I don’t understand why last step look different colour than while Cooking it’s orange but it looks red after cooking 😱

      The ground masala when gets cooked again in oil always turns red from orange in the end. I think you are all new to cooking. The masala gets cooked well again leaves out the oil

      I will try this. Makhana is v. good for health. There is no taste to Makhana.
      I have tried a 15 day regime of the following makhana recipe.
      2 tbsp Ghee
      1 tbsp Poppy seeds (khus-khus)
      -stir fry them
      - add two cups of Milk or depending on how many people
      - Add whole makhana pieces, around 20-30, you can even grind the makhanas into powder (I prefer).
      Boil it for 5 min.
      your healthy milk drink is ready
      add a pinch of haldi(turmeric) for taste (optional).
