In the other games(especially Asylum) they often genuinely sound like messed up and terrible people. In Origins they feel much more relatable, basically just poor guys trying to get by just like everyone else. The difference is rather than joining the military as a last resort like many of us do, their last resort is working for Crimelords like the Joker and Black Mask.

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about Tracy, I am talking about the other one Candy, I think her name was. So presumably a number of people turned to crime in order to feed themselves and their families. Crime has a tendency to be the occupation of last resort when nothing legal works. In addition, at the time Batman was thought of to be a myth so the criminals mostly still believed that they were invincible and above punishment from the law. People joining the winning team and all that. In Asylum and in particular other games, it seems as though the people involved are hardened and experienced criminals many of whom have committed terrible crimes. There are still those who seem to express some semblance of being human beings. An example would be in Asylum when Joker put the runoff and excess venom into the water to run into Gotham. One of them expressed concern that his mother lives where the water runoff is going, and he doesn't want her to get hurt. It is a curious contrast.
@@jamesvach6698 100% agree. It's a minor detail but Origins really did a good job of emphasizing how the story was the beginning for EVERYONE, not just Batman and the main villains. Even the grunts of Origins were overall a very different kind of people than in Asylum/City.

Falcone was still in control while later games had him flee from Gotham and Black Mask was considered a crime kingpin before Joker appeared. He lost his throne and never regained it despite great efforts on his part. Likewise, the criminals were probably not as experienced, but as they gradually gained criminal records, they likely lost a good degree of their sense of morality. Crime like becoming a superhero seems to be something that is easy to get into and hard to get out of. Those who try to flee (guys looking through random crates) and establish their own name (the turkey man) find it hard to do so.
I like the Criminals who seemingly wanna go legit. It seems like Gotham forced them into the life they're in, and they're just doing it to support themselves or their loved ones. They don't dream of staying in a life where they're actively hurting their city by what they do. It makes me wanna break less of their bones :)
Fast forward to Arkham City and Knight. No talk of going legit. The crime bosses make so much money now that the criminals are now scum who simply enjoy the lifestyle.
1:09:10 Something I love about this game that I wish they had in Arkham City was Gang Wars. Like, you could see Thugs from Different Gangs fighting over turf in this game. There is a straight-up Gang War in Arkham City yet you never see any of the Thugs Fighting. You see different Gangs in Different places and see a few that were taken prisoner by one Gang and you hear the thugs talk about it all the time, but you never see any actual fights between 2 Gangs. It would have been so cool to see some fights going on in the city.

Don’t blame him at all but very happy this channel decided to do it and even make custom subtitles.

I know a lot of people disparage Origins as a knock-off of Arkham City. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying the story of Batman's first years on the streets of Gotham. That said, Roger Craig Smith knocked it out of the park being the voice of a younger, inexperienced, and not to mention _angrier_ Batman.

If I could make a request, can you do a compilation of some of the final goon dialogue in Arkham Origins? You know, when you knock out everyone but the last guy, he'll make a comment on how you beat everyone there? It's kind of funny sometimes. I remember one guy saying something like "Don't hurt me! I had a troubled childhood!"
The fuck is wrong with you? He mugs her and then psychologically and physically abused her so she drops the complaint. And quit with the Karen meme. It's not 2019.
It's a shame the devs didn't provide subtitles for these and that unlike in the other games, the dialogues get quieter the further away you are from the thugs. I missed pretty much all of them when the game came out because I wasn't skilled enough in English to pick them up by ear. But while replaying the game now I can see, or hear, the effort the put in those dialogues, as they are as interesting and funny as in the other games and also provide commentary to your actions throughout the story. And you've done an excellent job with this video!

Too bad the thugs don't come up as, "deceased" when viewed in Detective Mode. Kinda ruins the unique interaction.

I TOTALLY appreciate the subtitles. I was disappointed that the actual game didn't have them (although they still included subtitles for main or side missions).

I was wondering why we never got a video like this for Origins, tbh they were scarce and kinda hard to hear compared to the other games.

I think Suicide Squad might recenter the conversations on the playable characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy game given that the Squad members are fighting brainwashed Brainiac soldiers not talking humans.

I know a lot of people disparage Origins as a knock-off of Arkham City.
But that doesn't stop me from enjoying the story of Batman's first years on the streets of Gotham.
That said, Roger Craig Smith knocked it out of the park being the voice of a younger, inexperienced, and not to mention _angrier_ Batman.

I love the small detail of most of them having jersey accents since gotham is in New Jersey.
Eh, it's always argued. Some say Jersey, some say Chicago, some even argue New York. Personally, I think Gotham takes elements from all of them.

Nope. You’re not alone in feeling pissed at crooked cops… especially since stuff like that happens a lot in the real world.
It's a shame the devs didn't provide subtitles for these and that unlike in the other games, the dialogues get quieter the further away you are from the thugs. I missed pretty much all of them when the game came out because I wasn't skilled enough in English to pick them up by ear. But while replaying the game now I can see, or hear, the effort the put in those dialogues, as they are as interesting and funny as in the other games and also provide commentary to your actions throughout the story. And you've done an excellent job with this video!
