On the old Dojo forums, there was a thread about a guy who worked on Shenmue Online and detailed stuff about the game on his Xanga blog. I was subscribed to his Xanga for a while.
Shenmue Online is a weird one. I never really liked the idea, because part of Shenmue is going into a foreign culture all alone and it being a stark contrast to the homey feel of home.
Thank you for this video! I actually did not know this about Shenmue Online. Considering how annoyed he was, the types of games JC makes today, and the litigation…feels like a big scam job by JC on Suzuki-San. Thanks for your work!
@@ShenmueDojoVOD I know I just think it would of Been better if spent on making shenmue 3 at that time and releasing it on both playstation and Xbox would of been massive they could of released 1&2 as well and they could of marketed it a lot better because shenmue fans would of brought it again then I would of been more money in their pocket
MMORPGs are harder than any other game. I get the feeling he would have only been satisfied if this were made much later and more like the Black Desert combat system. At the time of intended release there was nothing like the combat system he wanted... and even then the action combat in Black Desert has all sorts of lag and issues compared to other MMOs that did not go that hard on action combat.
If they can have the SHENMUE ENGINE, and remake shenmue 3 into the shenmue engine it would be amazing, or better yet if they can find the shenmue 3 prototype
@johnnada6855 You'd still end up in dodgy territory. Keep in mind YSNET don't own the models to S1 and S2. SEGA do and by reverse engineering them you're still using property that isn't yours and could end up in hot water. Modders do it all the time but no-one bats an eye lid because usually they give the mod for free but still run the risk of being shut down.

If £20 million was spent on shenmue online he should of just made shenmue 3 back then and by now we could of had shenmue finished ✅
It was SEGA trying to make money that brought Shenmue Online to life. Yu Suzuki was only a supervisior until they binned off JCE

Had it been successful it would have probably funded Shenmue 3, 4, 5 and remakes.
