  • Filmed at the 2017 IGH Conference, you can get this lecture and over 70 more at: isgenesishisto... Dr. Deweese received his B.S. in Biochemistry from Freed-Hardeman University in 2004 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University in 2009. During his graduate career, he was trained in the enzymology of DNA topoisomerases. His graduate research focused on the DNA cleavage mechanism of human type II topoisomerases and involved the development of a method for isolating topoisomerase II-mediated DNA scission from ligation. He also examined roles of metal ions in reactions catalyzed by topoisomerase II. Dr. Deweese taught as an adjunct instructor for Lipscomb University's Biology Department in 2007 and 2008. While in graduate school, he tutored medical school students in Biochemistry and trained and supervised both undergraduate and graduate students in his mentor's research laboratory. Currently, he is course coordinator for Biomolecular Chemistry, Integrated Biomedical Sciences Lab, and Applied Christian Values. He also teaches in pharmacology. Dr. Deweese is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he collaborates with his graduate mentor, Dr. Neil Osheroff. His research interests include characterizing the mechanism of anti-cancer agents and enzymes that function on DNA.
