You're correct Rome is the Italian New York City. Its busy, full of commercial stores, hugh end and not so good food.you get better food in Milan, and the best food is in the smaller towns or the not so hyped up towns

Do the customs charges for bringing back more than $800 in goods not offset the savings? I haven't looked into the percentage they charge.
I get asked that, but I have never been asked for anything at the USA customs border, other than if I have fruits, plants, seeds, etc
It is Duty-Free shopping.
I forgot to mention there is a minimum of €70 I think, for the purchase. Ask the store if they participate. Luxury stores always do.
