I think part of the protests about tourism is more to do with the property side of things,holiday let’s etc ,pricing out the ordinary locals who live in the community? We had this explained to us in Lisbon last year,the government are changing the laws now on Airbnb’s .The rents for locals are way too high for ordinary working folk to live there.

I hate the tourists in my area, complete disrespect to the by laws on the forest! The house prices are up because of air bnbs. The house next door to me is an air bnb and it drives my dog mad with new people and dogs next door every week. This is turn means the small village schools are all now under subscribed because families don’t live here anymore because of the prices. I have an open top tour bus that lets everyone peer into my garden all summer long. Now…do i want to move area??? No, do i hate the tourists. Yes! Was i a tourist here once….yes :) - the only way i can enjoy the forest in the summer is before 8:30am.

It might only be circumstantial evidence but the sheer weight of it is enough to convince a normal person! The incidents stopped once she was off the unit!!

I find this comment pretty misleading. It is important to note that Letby was removed from neonatal duty in late June 2016. And at around the same time, the hospital management downgraded the unit, so that it stopped taking the most premature babies with the highest risk of mortality. The number of deaths fell thereafter.

@@BuntyV1982 that is true but there are also deaths which cannot be explained by hospital shortages etc, like the insulin poisonings. I think if each individual case was looked at on its own then possibly there wouldn’t be a conviction but when you look at the weight of all the evidence put together it’s very convincing. I listened to the podcast about it last summer and they were very good at laying out the evidence without putting their own views into it

⁠@@nickybull2361 I listened to the daily podcast by Caroline and Liz at the time of the trial if that’s the one you are referring to?
My gut instinct tells me Letby may be guilty. But my head just cannot fathom how she was found guilty based on the ‘evidence’ presented. And you simply cannot convict someone based on a gut instinct.

@@BuntyV1982 yes that’s the one. I do know what you mean in that there’s no 100% irrefutable evidence of her guilt but personally I believe when all of the circumstantial and witness evidence is added together it does convince me that she’s guilty

My other concern is that when the police began investigating in 2017, they were looking into the deaths of 17 babies and 16 non-fatal collapses.
The prosecution presented a chart where Letby was on duty for 17 incidents.
But what about the other 16 incidents?
Why didn’t the prosecution show a chart of ALL the deaths AND non-fatal collapses from that time?
Was it because it would no longer show Letby as being a common factor?
Something that the prosecution and defence agreed on was that Letby was working more shifts at the time than her colleagues. So there is a real danger that this supposed correlation of presence is down to her being there for more shifts than others.
If this wasn’t the case, why didn’t the prosecution hammer home the point by showing other colleagues and percentages of incidents on their shifts compared to that of Letby?
I feel like the ‘statistical evidence’ that was presented by the prosecution shows possible confirmation bias happening and I'm not comfortable with that.
