Today we check out the ultimate beginner's guide to intervals on the guitar - in this music theory lesson we will dissect each interval in detail and it will be easy to memorize them once you establish all those different connections. As always the PDF tabs, guitar pro files and practice backing tracks are online on www.patreon.com/bernth
I am usually not one to leave comments but BERNTH deserves it. Allow me to say that I do not follow any other "metalheads" and we practically have nothing in common when it comes to music preference or looks. That being said, this man is one the best, if not the absolute best when it comes to technique first and foremost!! Additionally, his knowledge is superb. A very good and super important quality for a teacher is to be able to convey the information in a simple and relatable way. A big fat bravo to you, sir!!
@@jurijsk8997I'm sure it has more than 600K now which is great. I hope Bernth gets millions of subscribers and makes the same in money cause his lessons are so good and well thought out for players like me who needs it ALL broken down to understand.
I've been watching his youtube videos, but finally bought new gear after not playing for several years and just became a Patreon Bernth subscriber cause I've played by feel for years and had very slow progress and realized that writing solos is next to impossible without certain music theory knowledge, or improvisation playing. Matter of fact, once I became an a somewhat intermediate player, I felt like I was stuck and then eventually quit playing.
Ive watched tons of video on inervals and while they are all intersting and free knowledge this video is by far the easiest to follow and comprehensive. thank you for your time teaching us.
Hello Bernth. Just wanted to say that you are beyond a great teacher. You are also a monster player! Thank you for the incredible content you share and teach. Happy travels.
Time could not have been better to know about intervals than this when I am becoming good at Music Theory with Ionian and related Aeolian mode. Great work. Keep on!
I just got my first guitar a few months ago and I'm struggling quite a bit to be honest. This video helped a ton though I'm still very confused. I'm gonna watch the more of your content and see if I can figure the rest out.
Hey Bro! This is something I've always had issues identifying at will....!!! I appreciate you taking the time to help me identify and hearing intervals. Many thanks, 😊
Still have yet to oick a style kuz i love and appreciate all music but since bein on your channel I will figure out a way to shred in so many styles thanks ti your music theory knowledge
2:30...'the bass was just playing A all the time'... ... let's all just become bass players. 8:46...I love the 4th...I go for that a lot in my own experimenting. Actually, in interviews Richie Blackmore has said that he works with fourths a lot...so maybe that's a way to decipher some of his fretboard logic...thanks. Great vid. You always have really good content. ... Steve T was asking for suggestions for guitarists that are better than he is😀...I might suggest your channel! 🤘
Hi Bernth, Glad to hear your back home safe and sound. I take it you had fun! I looked for the lessons you said you uploaded to UA-cam, but the only one I found was the Dorian Pentatonic scale. But thats okay, I practiced the hell out of it! Intervals, I know one or two, but your lesson can bring me up to speed! I can't wait to get started! Thanks again for another great lesson, and thanks for taking the time to produce them! By the way I really love the intro to your lessons with the gold lettering, it looks so professional! That's cool! Okay got to go! See you in the next video! Todd P.
Awesome video Bernth! Looks like you had an awesome time touring! Did you happen to get any footage from the workshop you did? I would love to see that! Godbless and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Happy holidays to you too Christopher! Sadly I only have a couple of pictures, it was a very spontaneous event since I also played a show later - but I'm happy that I got the chance to teach for a couple of hours, looking forward to host more guitar workshops in the future!
Bernth this is an amazing and concise lesson. I have a question to ask. My personal teacher is having me learn all the major scale currently in 3nps format. He is having me count intervals as I go. And I get the importance of this from understanding mapping but how does it apply in PRACTICE to the point of shredding? Clearly (I can only assume) there is some point where you simply cannot count- or am I wrong and that you are always counting or do you shift from a point where your ear and hands just start to sync as you play faster?
Hello Bernth! Can you teach us how to write those mean sounding "dissonant/chromatic-like" solos, often in death metal and these extreme genres? I know a lot of them use the diminished scale, and I learned it, but for some reason I'm missing the right mindset, coming from mostly melodic music before. kthxbai
Question... When/why is the phrase diminished or augmented applied to other notes besides perfect4th-5th when they could be called min3rd, maj3rd etc. Example: Harmonic minor has a raised 7th, or augmented 7th.. are both correct?
Does anyone else think like me, Bernth appears to be missing the Strandberg style headless guitar, he's done away with bulky movement entirely, he appears to have done away with being a mortal and making mistakes, it stands to reason he'd do away with unnecessary guitar bits too!! Lol. 😁🤔😃🤟🤟
manmanman ... bei deinen VIdeos kann man irgendwie immer nach dem selben schema vorgehen .... Draufklicken - Liken - Gitarre greifen - Vollbild anmachen .....man wird nie enttäuscht

Dude this channel is so under rated, I wish I would have found this earlier in my playing career lol. Thank you kind sir.
Yeah like soo many years earlier lol

Aug./Perf./Dim. or Aug./Maj./Min./Dim. … that’s how it goes!
1/4/5/8’s are perfect, and 2/3/6/7’s are major (if part of the regular major scale).

Probably one of the most resourceful videos of all time!

Greetings all the way to India!

Bernth thank you this made sense. It helps when the theory is coming from a metal guy. Because I can relate. But I no you can play any style.
I would enjoy more information on the 'tension of intervals' stuff.
I'm glad that you had fun touring and poking the guitar!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll feature it for sure :)

Awesome man!!
Thanks for these awesome lessons, very helpful!👍👍👍
I think you will find a lot to learn from your video me thanks
For beginner videos i would recommend neck with dots. This one can be confusing.
If anyone is having trouble the dotted frets have a longer design for example ( I|I )
Wow great

Would you recommend learning to identify intervals by ear?
Hey Bernth, thank you for the lesson, love it as well as the course.
Which Band werw you touring with ?
Hey Manuel, I was playing with 'Seiler und Speer' - a Pop/Rock band from Austria!

When/why is the phrase diminished or augmented applied to other notes besides perfect4th-5th when they could be called min3rd, maj3rd etc.
Example: Harmonic minor has a raised 7th, or augmented 7th.. are both correct?
No, augmented is only used for 4ths and 5ths (and octaves). Perfect intervals when raised become augmented. 7ths are usually either major or minor.
Could I use the diminished 5th root in conjunction with the Tritone power chord or even the flated 2nd?
Got it
How to learn extension chord relation or diatonic chords??
great lesson man!
@bassandguitarscales 🤓😉
Very good. lesson. With a classic guitar and natural sounding , with not so much distortion, it would be easier to hear and understand.
Megadeth uses these masterfully.
👍😀
You look like AND ANGEL

I am a Metalhead and guitarist for 20 years now but I still dont get why a diminished 5th is called "EVIL" XD it just "leaves more to tell"
What is interval?
Distance between 2 notes … an interval is a SOUND created when 2 notes are played, either one note after the other or simultaneously.
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
Where is 7th interval?
Open string to fret 10 (E to D) is a minor 7th; and to fret 11 is a major 7th.

Das freut mich sehr zu hören, viel Spaß beim Üben :)
Sorry but i cant follow your finger positions at all, especially with that fretboard :(
The dotted frets have a longer diamond shape for example ( I|I )
