My dad was a career mechanic and my mum worked nights as a nurse... when I was a little kid I spent many a Sat morning in the garage with Dad watching him working on all sorts of things... this video gave me such a nostalgic feeling of my childhood! Cheers Marty for inadvertantly bringing back fond childhood memories for me... just by watching you strip down that gearbox :)

We used to do that on rotor transmissions and GE T58 turboshaft changes on Coast Guard Sikorski HH52a Seaguard amphibious helos.
Lots of Polaroid pics every time because of occasional modifications ARSC would do on us and not always send manual addendum about them sent along with the rebuilt assemblies.
Only way to be certain everything went back correctly was lots of pictures.
Q&A loved them before and after the swaps.
Made post swap inspections easier for them.

Brings back memories from when I completely restored my 1979 B7100 4X4.

Can't believe it's been 10 years already and I still have it to this day.

Looking at the way it came apart I would say this machine was looked after with proper oil changes and had a bit of bad luck with the geer box, I owned a 7100 for years and used it a lot on a orchard, the biggest issue was it was prone to over heating and cracking the cylinder head. Take good care of this one Marty and it will last a long time also a great learner for the kids.

Can see you thinking how can I get some assist with the reassemble, saving ball bearings and clearly making notes to camera (aren't they now a godsend). However I would not have the balls to rip such a complex item apart, but then I thought I am happy to pull PC's & other IT tech apart, upgrade bits and put them back together, that is my trade. I guess each to their own. Quite fascinating to watch your content, really enjoyable !

Hey nice timing, i've got one of these sitting in my barn right now. I need to pop the front case off and fix the cam oil plug issue that causes low oil pressure at idle. They're really cool lil tractors! Mine came with big spacers on the rear wheels, makes it way more stable. They absolutely need weights on the front for any rear implements though. I took my front loader off and tried to pick up a tiller and it did a wheelie!

I appreciate the video editing, all the key points shown with great quality and no down time, almost makes me think I could do the teardown of the motors myself...almost :)

When there's been this much chewage inside a gearbox, it's always a good idea to just replace the bearings. Not worth dealing with a potential frag inside if you've gone as far as taking it apart, especially on a gearbox. The loads will amplify any small defect and cause havoc.
I did this mistake once and i had to take the whole thing apart from scratch. Just not worth it, probably one of the most miserably jobs you have to do, to redo something. :))

Might want to put a dial indicator on that shaft you left in the box, visually I can notice deflection in it.

I have a parts list breakdown for that model. I got one straight from Japan 20 years ago. Gray model. Had to rebuild the front end, bearings and seals. 2 years ago changed the throw out bearing and clutch. You can get most parts from kubota I believe. Really good little tractor. Pull logs, cut grass, made a front end loader for it. Took an old backhoe off a ditch witch and mated it to it. It’s a little work horse.

@@MartyT Kubota says 16hp but anyone who has owned one will tell you it closer to 20. I was told by someone in Canada that they are rated at 20 in Japan but the ones they ship overseas are supposed to be 16. I have talked to a couple of people who have USA models and they will tell you it's closer to 20. For some reason the hp was under rated I think.
