Grant, I think that you just saved me a bunch of money. I was thinking about getting the 13 pro but your comparison shows that the 13 and the pro are so similar that it may not be worth it to me. I will probably just keep my 12 for another year. Great job!
That's what Grant does Kobra. If you are getting this for camera any will do. Even in low light you still could make a case for the 13. If you don't need the battery of the Max I am cool recommending the 13. Great job as always Grant!!!
Wow,,,, Definitely the very best comparison on UA-cam of the 13 vs 13 Pro cameras , thank you very much for creating this content. I’m currently using my 12 Mini which I love and just ordered the 13 Mini a few days ago, I was really torn between getting the 13 Pro or the 13 Mini but I’ve loved the form factor of my 12 Mini so much I ordered the 13 Mini. I’ve been second guessing ordering the 13 Mini because I thought I might be missing out on much better camera quality with the Pro version, but you video review really helped me realize I made the right choice,, your video shows the difference in camera quality between the 13 Pro and 13 is minimal at best. Thanks again for your awesome camera comparison review and thank you very much for none of the needless talking that so many other reviewers do. Most other reviewers on UA-cam spend endless amounts of time talking about specs that everyone already knows about and also spend endless amounts of time giving their personal opinions,,, your video did none of that endless banter,, your video was concise and right to the point and perfectly produced and edited. Thanks again, Cheers, Davyo
I changed from 12 pro max to a 13 mini and is glad I made the right choice. They have the same cam, minus the tele lens which I hardly use at all. The size and weight saving is enormous. I always wear loose shorts and the 12 pro max weight is dragging it down, plus the large size makes squatting uncomfortable. For those who is sitting on the fence, go for normal 13 if u find mini too small. It weigh so much lighter compared to the pro. How I wish Apple can use alunimium for the side instead of steel which looks premium but weigh so much. After using 12 pro max for a year I really crave for a super light phone. It is liberating.
The thing about the Telephoto lens is that 8 or 9 times out of 10 you're either using it to get a better view of something for a snapshot where the minimal loss in quality we see here with digital zoom won't matter, or you're trying to get a really nice wallpaper-grade photo where 'zoom with your feet' is the go-to anyway without some very specific ideas about playing with how the lenses affect the image. The Telephoto is useful, but not needed or a gamechanger...yet, anyway. Whenever Apple gets around to periscope cameras with 10x optical zoom the story will change a LOT since that capability will blow the 1x camera so far out of the water that it will change what pictures you even consider viable.....but until then the difference simply isn't meaningful most of the time. Honestly the macro photography is the bigger feature imo, and even that uses the ultrawide lens and could theoretically come to the regular 14 or 15.
I‘m impressed at how good the cameras of the iPhone 13 still is compared to the 13 Pro knowing that the 13 Pro has wider apertures and better quality - especially in low light. I’m happy with my 13 and I think, it was a good choice!
I heard everyone speaking about the better camera on the 13 pro (i have the 13 base model) but with this comparison I can see the small difference between this two Iphones and I'm happy because they're so much similar than expected
Man this is by far the best review on UA-cam! exactly what i need it to see which is the photography between these two. You are a $$ saviour man! thank you!
Thanks a lot for the comparison. You definitely saved me a lot of money. I was about to place an order for 13 pro and it seems there's no much difference between 13 and 13 pro.
Amazing review👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. I just got the 13 and feeling bummed that I didn’t stay with the pro models, but this video made me feel so much better about my decision to save $200. Thank you for your time and effort you put into this 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
This video was so informative! I am shooting for my review channel with a standard iphone 13 and I was really impressed how you compared everything. Now I know that I will be shooting my videos with the rear camera on 4K/30 FPS with and without cinematic..depending on my needs! Stoked!
Thanks a lot for the video. I personally found 13's front cam to be better detailed than 13 pro in your video, pretty sure that'd help many people to take a better decision. Keep up the good work :)
The digital vs optical zoom comparison really hits home why they ditched the telephoto for regular models a while ago. At least half of those comparisons-mostly the close-up nature ones--can be difficult to tell apart even when cropped in, and certainly don't pop out at first glance or on a smaller screen. Unless you're putting your photos up on a TV, printing them out, using them professionally, etc the telephoto really is overkill it seems. Which actually matches with my experience as I've gotten shockingly good photos out of the digital zoom up to 3x. It does turn back into the mashed potatoes I'm used to from my 7 after that, though. The macro comparisons also had the 13 putting out some surprisingly....not beautiful, but functional photos considering how completely unequipped it is for that sort of photography. This really shows how impressive phone cameras have gotten in recent years....and that the Pro models really do seem to only have features useful to a niche audience as far as cameras go.
Great review! Most other tech reviewers only talk spec which I can read myself on the apple website. This review is just what I was looking for as I am deciding between the regular 13 and the pro. To me regular 13 looked better in many comparisons. I think I will buy the regular 13 after watching this. Thanks!!!
Most of the time the pics honestly look identical or like the differences could be accounted for by subtle changes in the shooting conditions. Even the digital vs optical zoom section had me guessing which was which more often than not. Video[particularly at night] and macro seems to be where the Pros truly improve. Very impressive, and makes me really glad I have a 13 and saved my wallet from being parted with more money and my wrists from the pain of dealing with a heavier phone.
Great video. Your dog is so beautiful. You should have a lot more subscribers. A lot more. I think they are both doing a pretty good job. The Pro is slightly better though.
I can't honestly see much of a difference between them. I thought I'd see more of a difference between the optical telephoto and digital telephoto, but even that wasn't as distinct as I'd thought it would be. The 3x digital photos actually look surprising good, enough to make me buy the cheaper IPhone 13....if I was into Iphones.😁
@@GrantLikesTech I recently upgraded from a 7 and your video captured what I've noticed: up to 3x the digital zoom is insanely good, and can produce some great pictures(particularly 2x which often looks identical to me). Very different from what I'm used to where any level of digital zoom is just bad, no matter the lighting or subject. And thank you for comparing the two phones with the macro mode instead of just cutting corners and saying "well the 13 doesn't have macro mode!" Very interesting to see how far apart the two cameras are in that arena...and surprisingly how close the 13 can get from time to time despite being completely unequipped for the task.
The only reason why I was thinking of getting the 13 series is because I’m dissatisfied with the size of my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I needed this video to help me make the decision on whether to get the pro or regular. The superficial in me wants the pro, but o think I only need the regular based on the thorough results from this video.
Glad you found it helpful. I'd say the standard 13 is enough for most unless you really want a bit more zoom, slightly better ultrawide low light, ProRAW and ProRes video.
the weight thing is huge. Coming from the X, the 13 Pro is a full 30g heavier than the X/13. one-handed usage is something I value quite a bit...perhaps more-so than the macro/zoom toys.
This is a great video. I hate to say it, the two phones are so close it's hard to make a call for one or the other. I understood that the iPhone 13 received updated cameras that were last years iPhone 12 Max? Thank you for your hard work.
I think its so satisfying how each photo changes on each music beat. Great comparison video, it must be the best I ´ve watched so far to make my mind on 1 of the 2 models
Amazing comparisons!! Thank you so much for taking time on making an effort to make this video. You definitely helped a lot of people who are having trouble choosing which one to get.
Amazing video. I will upgrade my IPhone XS to the 13. I was into the 13 Pro just because of the extra lens, but I usually don’t take photos with my phone camera. Thank you so much for this video. 🙂👍
Great tests. The only negative I see here of the 13 Pro is that the digital oversharpening (a problem with a lot of smartphone footage) looks even worse now. Maybe it's just slightly more visible now when it's added on top of already more optical sharp footage? Either way I wish Apple would give us a way to pull back on that sharpening. I believe you can do it with ProRaw on stills (?) but there is no ProRaw on video. Right now - as a narrative filmmaker - I have to add like 0.2% blur to my whole video in post to make it look less smartphoney.
I will go with iPhone 13 , After watching your video , i have realised that there is no deffirence between x2 Optical zoom and degital zoom ! upgrading from XS MAX :) thanks for making me decide the right thing .
This video is amazing! Grant, you did such a good job. The review covers almost all aspects of the camera that I-and I think a lot other general users-care about. It's realistic, very thorough, and focusing on the actual results instead of specs! Thank you so much! I only wish I had found your video much earlier before making my purchase. :')
With nightlife the 13 looks better to me, the Pro seems to struggle due to making the image much brighter, it ruins the shot a bit. Thanks for the comparison. Don't know weather to upgrade my XR or wait to see if they redesign the 14 next year.
Seems like a double-edged sword. In a handful of shots the Pro clearly gets the better image, but the tradeoff is there are just as many where that extra light means it almost gets overexposed.
Dude what the heck, I've been duped. Seems like unless you're super zoom-happy, the cameras are functionally the same. And maybe it's just my eyes but it looks like the 13 performs slightly _better_ in some areas. I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to find a store that has a 13 pro in stock but I might just get a 13 now. Maybe even a mini!
Been agonizing myself. Bought the 13 but have until 10/8 to return it. I think I'll wait until next year to reconsider the Pro. The weight sucks at nearly half a pound.
@@distantyahoo Yeah I've heard they're super heavy this year. I can't handle any more weight, my pockets sag enough with my 12 pro. I hope they use aluminum frames for the 14 pro next year, I won't hold my breath though lol
As always GREAT COMPARISON. In the end both are pretty much the same. Low light video, is better on the 13 Pro But like you said, if you're not going to be doing much low-light video it's not necessary to spend more. I personally think that the iPhone 13 Standard is just fine 👍✌️
@@GrantLikesTech I would have to agree with you. But with that being said I still may go out and pick up the 13 Pro? Thanks for the feedback my friend✌️
Dear Grant, thank you so much for your detailed comparison! I was looking for something exactly like this, where the macro shots are compared with the 13's main camera shots zoomed in equally close. I was a bit tempted to get the pro, but after seeing this video, its advantages are not as big in real life as they are on paper in my opinion. I was surpised by the zoom capabilities of the 13, surely the macro and telephoto shots from the pro are a bit sharper but I expected a night and day difference, which wasn't the case, not even at 5x zoom levels. Anything above that without a dedicated 5-10x sensor feels gimmicky to me, so I'm not swayed by the pro's 15x maximum zoom reach. The ultrawide is clearly letting in more light at night, but I liked the regular 13's video a bit better as it looked like actual night-time video, even if there was a small loss in detail. Very solid comparison, instantly subscribed. Thanks again!
Luving my new gold edition iPhone 13 pro upgraded from the XS gold edition.. the XS treated me good it was just her time to go and I aint looking back.
I was going to buy the 13 pro but then realized how little I actually take pictures. I still want good quality though, so if you’re someone like me, don’t sweat it and go for the 13. The only thing you’re really losing is the pro motion display. Regardless, you’ll be more than happy.
Excellent video! Thank you :) I was just looking at the 13 Pro today but if I decide to get and iPhone, I'll stick with the standard after seeing this.
It is always a pleasure to see work well done. I think you have done a very thorough review, certainly superior to anything I have seen so far. You might consider speaking a little more slowly for people listening in their second language.
Nice comparison! Thank you for this. I have an iPhone 8 Plus and I 'm still happy with the photos on it (even though I know the iPhone 13 Pro's are much better and have newer features) so I'll stick with it another year or two or until Apple does a major redesign and brings back Touch ID.
Superb the world needs more people like you so hopefully these companies stop giving us small upgrades every year. I believe every company should release a phone every 2 years. They all apparently want to save the planet so that would help.
@@jaryaq It still does everything you need it to without any problems, so why change? Not everyone needs to give into the hype and peer pressure of having the "latest phone". It's honestly stupid!
Does anyone happen to have footage of low light zoomed video? I'm really torn between the iphone mini and pro, and right now the only thing keeping my attention on the pro, is the zoom video quality. I'm hoping with vaccinations going up, and restrictions going down, to attend some music festivals or concerts in the future, and would love to grab some nice footage of artists and such on stage. I'm really curious how much of a difference it would make? I don't film for a business or anything, just personal memories for myself, but I'm not sure just HOW MUCH of a difference that zoom lens makes.
I need to go repo my iphone return from my local post office. Decided on the pro based on the glowing camera reviews. Well accidentally came across a forum voicing some concerns on photo issues. And I seen examples of that in your videos. Not much difference. The macro is great but in some they look very similar. And in your selfiies many of the 13 photos looked more animated, real. Thanks.
Also good to remember that many famous photographers from 40+ years ago probably had access to worse cameras than what we have in our pockets in some ways. Andy Warhol did his portraits with not just an instant camera, but THE FIRST polaroid instant camera, weird washed out colors and all. The difference in quality here certainly exists, but is so mild as to be dwarfed in importance by the skill of the photographer.
Thank you sooo very much for that material! It was by far the best of ANY I've been watching for the past days. I'm in an unsual situation because I've been using 12 Pro Max for almost a year but it is way too heavy and bulky for my hands. So, now I'm considering 13 regular for its weight - how do you think - am I going the wrong way?
Many people have gone down from the Pro Max to the Pro due to the size. I'd say it's a good year to go Pro since it's the same as the Pro Max this year and has better battery life than the 12 Pro.
@@GrantLikesTech 13 Pro is still over 200 grams and that is why for some more days I will be walking around thinking - 13 regular or 13 Pro :) I love good photos, however, what you've shown in your video tilts the balance even more towards the regular 13 :)
@@JoAnn77PL been using the X since 2017. I notice in your videos that the iphone 13 pro’s 3x optical zoom doesn’t look better than the standard iphone 13 phone’s 3x digital zoom. It could be because you are too close to the subject. The 3x zoom lens can’t focus at very short distances so the iphone reverts to the standard 1x wide lens, and does a 3x digital zoom. That could be the reason why there is no quality difference. The 3x optical zoom lens wasn’t used in the first place.
If you don't mind the larger size and feel you'll use the zoom, then get the Pro. It also has a higher refresh rate display and more RAM (if you care about that).
Honestly low light video is still absolutely terrible on both (and any other smartphone), especially the ultra wide, and triply so for the front camera. Smartphone cameras still have a very long way to go.

@PISCES HERE Depends on personal preference really. I like it better b/c it's lighter and doesn't show fingerprints like steel does.
Omg this video was sooo helpful. Wow you’re an angel. Thank you!!!!
Excelent vídeo! Thanks!
Thanks, glad you liked it.
As always GREAT COMPARISON.
In the end both are pretty much the same.
Low light video, is better on the 13 Pro
But like you said, if you're not going to be doing much low-light video it's not necessary to spend more.
I personally think that the iPhone 13 Standard is just fine 👍✌️
Thanks Anthony! I had a feeling it would be close. It's the same each year. Definitely falls short of Apple's claims to me.
Anyone noticed the audio difference ?
Luving my new gold edition iPhone 13 pro upgraded from the XS gold edition.. the XS treated me good it was just her time to go and I aint looking back.
Which phone would u suggest for longer time maybe 3 4 years
Thankfully, made the right decision. 13 Mini best choice. ❤️
thank you for the detailed comparison...
You're welcome
Great comprehensive review. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you so much! Really helpful video!
great honest review. i see alot of reviews out there that say "bigger is better" "buy the iphone 13 pro, buy the iphone 14 pro"
your dog is so cooperative. thank you for the comparison!
Could the regular iphone 13 capture great photos of the stars like close to the pro???
Most people are using ProRAW to get those shots, which is only available in the Pro models.
Thank you so much for this wonderful comparison 😌✨
14:17 the brightening of the 13 pro when zoomed in with night mode is way too aggressive
I was going to buy the 13 pro but then realized how little I actually take pictures. I still want good quality though, so if you’re someone like me, don’t sweat it and go for the 13. The only thing you’re really losing is the pro motion display. Regardless, you’ll be more than happy.
What about the extra 2gb ram and 5core processor?
@@rfpchar get a computer lol
Please you tell me who use photograpy style in 13
Excellent video! Thank you :) I was just looking at the 13 Pro today but if I decide to get and iPhone, I'll stick with the standard after seeing this.
Thanks, glad it was helpful
Very thorough camera review as always!
Thanks Robb!
Does the iPhone 13 mini have the same features as the iPhone 13??
Exact same except size
I was having such an issue picking which phone. Now i know. Thanks so much.
Good work 👍
Thanks!
It is always a pleasure to see work well done. I think you have done a very thorough review, certainly superior to anything I have seen so far. You might consider speaking a little more slowly for people listening in their second language.
Thanks, always appreciate the feedback.
Great work and video !
Thank you very much!
Thank you for this vid. Now I'm convinced to get the regular iphone 13.
cinematic mode only in Pro version or ? on gsm arena is only on Pro version
All iPhone 13 has cinematic mode
They still have not fixed those green lens flare in photos and videos.
Smart move. Smartphone cameras have been good for awhile, so unless you need zoom or low light it’s best to save your money.
Superb the world needs more people like you so hopefully these companies stop giving us small upgrades every year. I believe every company should release a phone every 2 years. They all apparently want to save the planet so that would help.
You are just stingy lol iPhone 8 Plus is so old
@@jaryaq It still does everything you need it to without any problems, so why change? Not everyone needs to give into the hype and peer pressure of having the "latest phone". It's honestly stupid!
Superd detailed video. I actually look for this kind of comparison of phone cameras.
Does anyone one knows how to turn of the automatic lighting that the phone edits after taking a selfie
For general users, I think iPhone13 is enough. Thank you for making this content. Help me saving a lot of money. 😂
thank you for making this video your dog is adorable
I need to go repo my iphone return from my local post office. Decided on the pro based on the glowing camera reviews. Well accidentally came across a forum voicing some concerns on photo issues. And I seen examples of that in your videos. Not much difference. The macro is great but in some they look very similar. And in your selfiies many of the 13 photos looked more animated, real. Thanks.
Which to get the iphone 13 or the pro? I cant choose
what is wrong with the 13 audio ? not as loud as 13 pro. not sure if Apple intents to weak the 13 audio to make the pro looks better
Our own eyes and ears have more limitations than our phones these days ;-)
Also good to remember that many famous photographers from 40+ years ago probably had access to worse cameras than what we have in our pockets in some ways. Andy Warhol did his portraits with not just an instant camera, but THE FIRST polaroid instant camera, weird washed out colors and all. The difference in quality here certainly exists, but is so mild as to be dwarfed in importance by the skill of the photographer.
I would choose 13 over 13pro if it's for camera perfomance
13 feels more natural and casual
In terms of camera
I ordered the 12 Pro when it came out but then quickly came to the realization that it was far less ergonomic/comfortable than my X due to both the weight and flat edges. the camera stuff was pretty useless considering I spent most of the winter in my apartment.
i decided to go 13 this year as it felt like a really happy medium between upgrades in all the right places (camera, battery, cpu, ram) without feeling like i was going overkill for a phone that weighs nearly half a pound with features I don't see myself using all that often.
Very well captured😍
Thanks
I have huawei p40 pro,, I love it but ,, because we dont know when we have here in Greece the P50 series ,, I think about Iphone 13 , 13pro. In camera i suppose is same? Is a good change for me? Every help accept!
Agree w other comments that 13 vs 13 pro comparisons tables seen no deafferents Thought the 13 in many cases a bit sharper. Thanks for the Lots of work on these vids & its worth to Subscribe Great channel!
Thanks, much appreciated!
Jo what's the first beat??? It's 🔥
All songs are in each section's segue/title card.
Thank you for this great video. I was wondering if there is a wide angle video mode for front facing camera? I have a regular 13 and I can't find it.
Thanks, and no wide angle video for front camera. For selfies there is a wide option.
@@GrantLikesTech Thanks for the quick reply.
The mic on the standard phone seems better than the pro?
Seemed mostly the same to me, but who knows since we all hear things differently.
Appreciate your work I have been using 13 for a month now and cam in 13 is great
Wow! This video helped me so much to save a couple of bucks! Thank you for this! I'm buying the regular Iphone 13😍
WOW! Please post comparison against Pixel and Samsung. You're the best mate!
Thanks, doing my best to get these comparisons done.
Which one should I choose to keep phone for longer time +4 ?
If you don't mind the larger size and feel you'll use the zoom, then get the Pro. It also has a higher refresh rate display and more RAM (if you care about that).
Great video! I just notice, I look bad in the 13 and the 13 pro. 😂
Honestly low light video is still absolutely terrible on both (and any other smartphone), especially the ultra wide, and triply so for the front camera. Smartphone cameras still have a very long way to go.
How to control the auto enhancing feature on iphone 13 , this feature is very bad
What's song at 8:35?
Hey grant, I just bought my iPhone 13 and thought I should’ve bought 13 pro as my friends started saying so and kinda felt bad too. But thank you, I feel relieved after watching this☺️
Glad it was helpful. If you're not using the "pro" features like telephoto lens, longer digital zoom or pro Raw/Pro Res, then you're better off saving $$.
