  • In this video titled "Unlock the Secrets of Isometric for Better Arm Development," fitness expert James Grage discusses the importance of isometric contractions for muscle growth and shares three ways to incorporate isometrics into your workouts to maximize muscle stimulation. He emphasizes the need to create enough stimulus in your reps, sets, and overall workload to make the muscles work hard and promote growth. James explains the first way of using isometrics by pausing at the top of the contraction to feel a strong contraction and engage more muscle fibers. The second way is to hold an isometric contraction at the bottom of the range of motion to keep constant tension on the muscle. Lastly, he introduces doing negatives with a training partner to create muscle damage and trigger growth. By using isometrics as a tool, you can make every rep, set, and workout more challenging and stimulate muscle growth. Watch the video to learn more about unlocking the secrets of isometrics for better arm development.

    James, James, James .... You're a gem Sir. Every time I get in my head about certain things here you are saving me from myself. It is ABSOLUTELY easy to get off path or hard to remember to apply the basics. Priceless content, carry on Sir.

    Yes, especially in your last rep, hold it on the top for as long as you can, and lower it as slow as you can.

    What happened to the Mike Mentzer training you were supposed to do?

    • @JamesGrage
      @JamesGrage  5 місяців тому

      So in my opinion, the only real way to do a Mike Mentzer program is with a training partner. To achieve that ultra high intensity that he was a proponent of it requires you pushing yourself harder than the average person wants to push themselves. Thats why Mike always trained with his brother Ray. Now I know how to take my sets to the brink, but even then I know that to do it right it would be better with a training partner. So, that’s my longwinded way of saying that when I find someone who’s willing to kill themselves with me I’m going to have that one on pause for now.

    No more training with resistance bands? Why? Thank you.

      Actually, its just that he is no longer training with only using bands.
      When I hopped onto bands because of Grage, I never switched to only training with bands. Many of his followers from Undersun have never been bands exclusive. Bands are just another great tool, and James taught us how to get the most from them and incorporate them into our training. Sometimes I do band only workouts though, but most of the time I incorporate bands (or band exercises) with other equipment. Examples: I prefer using bands for straight arm pushdowns over using a lat bar and a weight stack every time, even though I have the equipment there to do either one. Ditto core exercises with bands like "cable crunches,", or chest exercises like close grip chest press, reverse grip flyes, or just grabbing a band for push-ups rather than a weight vest. Triceps pushdowns with bands are better than a triceps rope and a weight stack too in my opinion. It's all about trying different things with various tools and seeing what works best for your workouts to get the best contractions for tension in the muscle. Some tools just do a better job for for me on certain exercises than other tools.
      That principle is often over looked in the discussions about exercises in general. Since we are no longer limited to specific ways of performing exercises with certain equipment, people should explore more what works best for them using this or that instead of how someone else likes doing it. If a band works better for someone in mind muscle connection and better contractions, then they should use a band (like a bent over row or whatever). If the bar works better for someone on that exercise, then they should use the bar. Who cares? Everyone should use what works best for them in every exercise they do. If people don't explore the various options out there, they may be missing out.
      All that said, I still want to see what Grage would do with a sandbag, what he would do with kettlebells, a suspension trainer or gym rings (though he's used these before for triceps in a previous video), and full bodyweight/calisthenics workouts. I just like his take on things. :)

      Hey my friend. I still use them in my training almost every workout. I just added weights back in because my son wanted to lift weights with me and I also believe variety is important to keep things fun and interesting. Using bands only for nearly 5 years was enough to prove that they are an effective training tool.
