    HOW EVEN do you organize all that footage that you can find so many specific vlogs of you wearing the clothes/saying something relevant. Do you have it stored in a specific way or is it really just your brain holding on to all that info?

    I'm always so shocked/impressed with how you always find such specific footage from years ago. Does it take you a lot of time to scour through it all, or do you know exactly where to look?

    • @beckiejbrown
      @beckiejbrown  5 років тому +16

      I've organised my footage rather well (blowing my own trumpet), and I honestly do remember things really well. The 2009-2010 period is slightly harder to find things for as I recorded lots of footage for each video. So it's those videos that make the process a little slower. For videos outside that period, it's fairly easy! It's just my brain - I have friends who can't remember what they wore last week, I always remember! :D.

    The Fault in our stars video was actually the first video I ever watched of you. I remember it very vividly because I had just finished that book and I was absolutely in love with it and everyone else seemed to be in love with it too and then your video suddenly showed up at my feed and I was fascinated by your point of view, I found it really interesting and intriguing and I've been hooked on your channel ever since. You showing that dress actually gave me a sentimental feeling and made me realize I have been with you for over 4 years now!!! ANYWAY, I'm so happy to see you this happy I wish you all the best in the world, because you deserve it

    Getting rid of these things is clearly hard for you, and it leaves an impression to see how much you're managing to part with. Getting rid of things can be difficult for those of us who don't hoard, so I can only imagine what it must be like for you!

    i also attach sentimental value to clothes and don’t like throwing them away (i understand hoarding disorder is debilitating and it’s not something i struggle with - i’m just a sentimental person that loves clothes) and i absolutely love these videos! i love how you can go back and spot each piece of footage - i’m almost jealous of how much of it you’ve got. i wish i recorded videos when i was younger and kept them. watching these videos for me is like that feeling when you find a big bag of things in a charity shop that all have a story

    I used to be a hoarder too with clothes, art stuff and childhood stuff.. I've parted with lots of stuff. I still have a ton of clothes and clothes in bags in attic, that are hard for me to get rid off as I keep thinking that they may fit me one day, even though they are like 10 years old.. 😂
    I've definitely noticed my body has changed in the past 2-3 years. I've put on over a stone that I cannot lose and definitely got wider in hips, bigger thighs and broad shoulders. I've got lots of broad people in my family, but was still suprised like where on earth have these hips come from 😂
    Need to try find a place near by that recycle scrap material....

    I have a hoarding problem too, have my whole life... and your house does not look like mine. :( So you are doing amazing. I have spent days and days gathering and throwing out things but the clutter never, never goes away. You could never tell I have tried at all but I have worked really hard and nothing has ever changed. I wish I could crawl out of the clutter but it never stops. I'm proud of you for being able to do it! In all your videos your place always looks so nice and tidy and even minimalist to my eyes. I pray and wish my house could look like that some day!

    It’s almost scary to see the depth of emotion on your face and in your body language with some of these pieces. I have a lot of heavy association with items, too, and a lot of hard memories. I think we’re opposites in a sense because I tend to feel better just getting rid of everything so I don’t have to carry the clutter or the memories around with me. Awesome job sorting through all of this; it can’t have been easy.

    I would say I'm a mild hoarder, all of those memories are so hard to part with. This year I've spent a lot of time going through boxes of items, and have finally been able to let go of so much. I decided that if something has negative memories attached to it then I don't want it in my life. And in order to have room physically and mentally for new memories and for the things that truly matter, I need to let go of all of the the things that, in the end, are only holding me back. I've started taking pictures of everything I'm donating, it makes it easier to let go of. I'm so proud of you, it's not easy getting rid of things, but in the end you'll have room for so much more joy 💜

Sister has been living in London three years though, so we still know about the tough old London renting situation out there! Bloom-in nightmare and the prices keep rising! I really struggle to throw things away, and I'm about to move house from a flat into a room, so I need to get rid of stuff. It's going to be unbelievably hard but I know I have to do it. How do you build up to it, or is it more just like ripping a plaster off?

    • @beckiejbrown
      @beckiejbrown  5 років тому

      I guess I've been building up to it for a good ten years. I've heard horror stories from other hoarders where parents or family have gotten rid of huge amounts of possessions without the permission of the hoarder. It can feel like part of your soul has been ripped apart.... Others claim that even if you remove our posessions, we'll just start again and hoard even worse as we've even less to hold onto - we hold onto whatever comes our way.
      Some people react well though I suppose.

      @@beckiejbrown thanks for such a thoughtful reply. I think that's what is stressing me out so much, my family tend to just go "let's get rid of everything" and that just makes me want to hoard even more, but I know that it's not good for me. Maybe if I do it on my own terms it'll be easier... Good luck with everything, you're making great progress :)

    The ability to remember where all of your clothes came from and memories associated with it, is that just an aspect of the hoarding?

    • @beckiejbrown
      @beckiejbrown  5 років тому

      It can be, for many we retain the memories quite severely in our minds. In parting with the object, it's like destroying the memory in the process. It's another level to the whole parting process that some don't understand if they don't associate memories and items together as we do. It's bloomin' weird and tough simultaneously!

    I have thought of something. Can it be that you have hyperthymesia? You have such a good long-term memory, even remembering most dates you've made videos or worn specific clothes, and such. It's quite common for people with hyperthymesia to have OCD, hoarding problems, BFRB and suchlike. Hyperthymesia doesn't have to be a bad thing, that varies a lot from person to person.

    Do you have photographic memory? How do you manage to find clips where you wear all the clothes? I admire your editing.

    You'd get a few quid for that bag of jewellery if you sold it as is on ebay.

      In fact if you listed them and did a short video here with a link to the listing you may well find that your loyal follows start a bit of a bidding war. :-)

      I actually went through and untangled them all. I've seperated chains from the pendants. So not too bad! Once I know what to do with them, I'll get things sorted correctly. For now, they're seperated with the intention of going!
