Thanks for checking this place out! As a local I’ve noticed this place is starting to improve and I can’t wait to see the new Kohls and arena!
Wow closing the mall food court is a bad idea. Hopefully they have a replacement plan. Food outlets are a huge draw for redeveloped malls. Food also makes shoppers happy and more willing to spend money. I like the classic feel of this mall, I hope it thrives in the near future.
I agree! I don't know if they're gonna move some of the food places within the mall but it seems like a mistake.
Hopefully they move it to the empty part of the basement or something.
@@rc06109 lol where mcdonalds use to be. If they bring the dungeon back they better make it brighter down there.
Interesting video. Thanks!
Thank You!!!
So insane how fast this mall turned for the worst. I didn't expect to see Famous-Barr! Must've been their northmost store.
Seems Merle Hay's biggest problems were completely out of their control.
The map timeline was very cool. Nice work!
Thank You! Famous-Barr must've done really bad if it only made it four years.
@@LostDepartments They started closing a few underperforming stores pre-Macy’s. They tried it at Crestwood Plaza, but they stayed just long enough for it to become a Macy’s.
I like the way you did the timeline!
Thank You!!!
Another fantastic docu there
Known it ever since you were still on Elevators +More
Thank You!!!!
@@LostDepartments yw man!
Thank you for taking my request!
Amazing video!
Thanks!!!
Thanks for filming Iowa :).
11:45 they used to be filled with stores. That’s why they look weird.
A huge gamble to spend lots of cash to build an arena. Hope it works out.
I just moved here from Georgia. Ate at the Maid-rite inside this mall. Hope they fix it up.
I remember hearing about this mall in the past, valley west also is another cool mall in this area, it was foreclosed and might be sold. I hope that one doesn’t close (it still has some neon also). For this property I don’t think it looks bad but it is boring a little, never liked carpet in malls either.
It's a little boring but I think this mall is very unique.
Yeah it is definitely a unique one still. Not my overall favorite but there is worse.
Nice video I’ve never been to this mall
Did you make a quick side trip to Valley West while you were in Des Moines area?
Maybe...
@@LostDepartments Fair enough, bud! I only ask because I don't know how far in advance you film and was wondering if you were the one who wrote the message at the 30 second mark ua-cam.com/video/EtGcg2h5t3U/v-deo.html It's irking me that I can't figure it out.
@@cmparker nah that wasn't me
You just forgot the fire of the Younker's store in the timeline
I know but I mentioned it in the video
@@LostDepartments Oh, okay
The only way malls will ever make a comeback is if the internet goes away forever.
Who else is crossing their fingers for that to happen 🤞
Well, I confuse Merle Hay Mall with Golf Mill Mall
Wow it looks so clean in this video! It's garbage now with major plumbing and flooding issues now.
