I'm obsessed with this aria, I saw this opera in Calgary last year, and remembered hearing this beautiful aria once before, wondering what it was. This is gorgeous.
No question, a beautiful rendition. He sings it with a kind of casualness and yet it is so subtly formal. He's "on the team"
I love how he just SINGS, and lets the music speak for itself.....it's not often you find a baritone who sings this without self indulgance

I'm listening to this for the 20th time now. I cannot put in words what this interpretation does to me. Not only Stephan Genz, but the choir as well. I am completely melting away.
Why is it so hard to find Stephan Genz on youtube - or anywhere, for that matter. His 'Beethoven Songs' is superb and surpasses any rendering of these songs that I have ever listened to; and this includes Roger Vignoles'tender accompaniment. What is known about him except that he was born in Erfurt and has sung at various venues in Europe?
I still refuse to accept this video has less than 1 billion views...

One of the most beautiful arias written, despite being part of an age when experimental music was more celebrated. Genz performance is phenomenal as well - perfect, legato line and expression, without giving it too much. Wishing I was sitting in the house on that day...
So beautifully sung.
