I was slightly wrong about the cost of a bike reservation! Whilst a journey within Slovenia or there to/from Italy costs €1.50 or €3 for an e-bike, if you travel to Croatia, this costs €5 instead.

Still very reasonable. I wish renfe would add bike spots to the regional and local trains in Spain

@@DomingoDeSantaClara There's nothing to skew here, it was a one time only experience with the festivities so you can't really review that. The train is, so to speak, brand new, a FLIRT with pretty much standard commuter interior. He got invited for the festivities of a new route opening and this is what we got in the video.

@@michaelkores6860 And man from experience I know as he said this can be pretty strong! And you don't refuse local custom of it being offered. Once i was on the CFM train Chisinau-Moscow in 2015 going to Kyiv, and I was walking the hallway where the long and strong arm of the Train manager literally pulled me into his compartment and offered some home-made plum brandy (think it's called palinka there} in return for giving him some English conversation practice. Of course I was careful to partake with food - roast chicken, cheese, and some ukrainian sausage I bought from a babushka at a station stop, and I thought i was doing fine until the 6th or 7th shot when it hit me.
I got pretty pissed, and with my compartment open I could've had my belongings including passport easily stolen (thankfully train was pretty empty). I was indebted to the junior conductor for keeping an eye on my stuff and also making make sure I didn't fall on my face getting down to the platform at Kyiv at 3am in the morning! At least being pissed on Palinka seemed to help border patrol go well with entering Ukraine (I seem to remember being laughed at by the female border patrol officer!)

Speaking of regional trains crossing three countries, I would recommend the RE18 from Aachen via Maastricht to Liège. Though this have been delayed many times due to various reasons, like a lack of trains and staffs and even signalling systems, and FLOODING around the border crossing between the Netherlands and Belgium this time. Riding this train during normal operation could also be an adventure, mainly because of the only but critical single-track section around Eygelshoven. If you manage to pay a visit on that train I would really appreciate it.

Nice vid as always. Haha I also bought the same bag and got a t-shirt and quick dry towel, and a coffee mug from an associated shop that sells SZ stuff at the main stations and also the Railway Museum in Ljubljana when there in Oct last year. Grem z vlakom!
I hope once all the big track works are done, these will also run on another Slovenia-Croatia cross border route, Ljubljana-Pula, which is also a gem with some great scenery esp up on the ridgeline going down the Istrian Peninsula, and Pula is well worthwhile for a visit. It's a shame none of the rail youtubers have ventured on this route (though the past few years there's been extensive rail upgrading works on the Slovenian side of the border as i encountered last year).
I have also "crossed"this path, or the part from Italy heading towards Ljubljana and onto Zagreb/Belgrade/Budapest back in 2009 when I took a seat on the Casanova Euronight night train that used to run from Venice. It would be so cool if that international night train was re-established.
I agree that if they were going to use the Flirts for regional and international routes of 1.5hrs +, then they should've been fitted with seat back tables. That"s pretty poor by today's standards. However like you on the plus side, when I took these flirts on domestic services last year, I found them pretty comfortable.

Hi from Slovenia. Nice video! Well done. I was on a similar trip from Ljubljana to Rijeka on a international train last summer. Sadly you did not have nice views along the way, because the view from Sapjane to Rijeka can really be spectacular. Have you traveled from Divaca to Koper? If not do it in next two years, or there will be an alternative tunnel track drastically reducing travel time and much less interesting. Check also Divaca - Pula connection, I think that it is the last year with retro variant (zelenec), next year there will be Stadler in service.

I really like Slovenia and SZ. Trains are cheap and they really care about passengers e.g. making sure changing trains works. These new trains also run internationally to Graz and to the borders of Croatia (Dobova and Metlika) as well as to Koper. Sadly they don't run this one to/from Trieste station which would have been absolutely fantastic. Seeing the SZ-fleet approved for Croatia in the future they can hopefully run those to Zagreb as well. For now there seem to border checks going in the opposite direction from Croatio to Slovenia even without loco change.

I've seen those trains running thru croatia at least a year ago or more even, on rail fans video clips, they were running homologation trials on croatian rails to be able to run there, always asked in the comments what for it's done, but nobody gave an answer, and now a year or two more probably later, there's a line in operation, can't understand what took them so long..

Omg, another dumb serbian, nope, in fact italy and croatia signed a treaty, before croatia entered schengen, some year earlier during the preparations, treaty about eternal non changing of the border lines between our countries, in other words they give up on istria forever, we give up on trieste forever, and in that treaty we also split entire adriatic in half on our two respective exclusive economic zones, just our two countries.
Anyways you don't have nor will ever get such a treaty with hungary, and they already have vojvodina by realestate they bought and their political party there, in the first crisus that happen it will only be formalised finally, and kosovo, well that's long time gone already - but nice try serb, from the new year electronic visas if you wanna enter civilisation, think about that for a change.

In the past, that journey would not have been an international one since the whole area of the line this train travelled were Italian territory (even Rijeka itself was Italian and still has the headquarters of the Italian Minority institutions in Croatia).
Indeed for €8.00 it is quite a bargain for an international train. Sadly, it will be long before they even consider to extend this service to Trieste since those trains are not equipped with the right voltage required to travel into Italy and indeed it is faster to teavel from Villa Opicina to Trieste by bus due to the long loop that trains need to get to enter into the city as a result of its landscape

You should join the inaugural Arriva RE18 tri-country journey departing Liège at 07:08 hrs. on Sunday, 30 June taking you to Aachen via Maastricht. The Maastricht/Aachen section has been operating since January 2019. The Stadler FLIRTs have three voltages capability; 3kV DC in BE, 1.5kV DC in NL and 15kV AC in DE. The units each have two pantographs, one for the DC voltages and the other for AC. The new rolling stock will replace the sad looking NMBS/SNCB cars between Liège and Maastricht. The only downside is that for the short term the Dutch OV Chipkaart cannot be used on the journey through to Liège.
