Dang, now I want a beer. That stout made my mouth water. I don't even know if its any good, but I have that its a quality beer seeing that it was brewed in a microbrewery.
rick eppy Yes, she clearly doesnt like beer, her face scrunched up with almost every sip. Not to mention talking over the chap who knew what was what. She mentioned Bourbon and nodded when he was clearly talking about the difference between rye whiskey and wood grain whiskey, not alcohol types. So Ignorant.
The segment is obviously supposed to have a fast pace, didn't you hear that background music? She was working with what she had. I thought it was endearing.
for my taste would be like this: 1) Stout 5 to 6 beers im done 2) Porter 5 to 6 beers im done 3) Ale 5 to 10 beers im done 4) Lager I dunno like 20 of this kind of water lol :P
Stouts and porters are ales, btw (as determined by the type of yeast used to ferment the beer). Lagers also vary a lot, not all of them are Budweiser. You can get some crazy big 10+% abv lagers (usually doppelbocks or weizenbocks) with huge flavor and character. Ales also vary significantly, even within styles. Some Stouts, for instance, are very light abv and easy drinking (Irish Dry Stouts like Guinness and others) or huge and robust (such as a Russian Imperial Stout). So much variance in beers in general. Heh.
Neon Scorpion Correct. I've had Russian Imperial Stouts that put me on my ass quickly; ones you almost need a knife and fork to get through. Imperials, of any category (IPA, Pilsner, Stout, etc.) tend to be higher on the ABV scale, typically over 8% and often over 10% as Neon mentioned. American craft brewers are pushing the limit of what beer can be and blurring the line of what each style is - perhaps to the horror of many German purist breweries (who secretly are brewing American-style beers on the side with their own craft label brands, so don't let them fool you). I think it's pretty cool.
+nexornator ales and lagers just determine whether the beer is brewed cold or at room temp, and with what type of yeast. both have weak beers and ones that'll leave you stumbling.
I honestly thought the host was gonna be annoying, but by the end, I was pleasantly surprised. I think people are being way too hard on her simply because she seems to be a generally strong woman. However, the commentary on the beer from both parties was extremely useful, especially compared to other videos on the topic.
Wrong, guys. It's a traditional, Vienna Lager. In terms of "strength" it'd fall between the first and second beers they tried. Ross - a lager and an an ale are mutually exclusive. What determines if something is a lager or ale is the yeast used to make the beer (ie the bugs that turn sugar into alcohol). Jimbus - there is no wheat in a Boston Lager recipe.
If you want to know what I mean here- beer is categorized into two large groups - lagers and ales. These are determined by the type of yeast used to make the beer. Lagers are fermented at lower temperatures and generally will be naturally clearer and have less yeast flavors and include dozens on sub-styles (such as Pilseners and Bocks). Ales are fermented closer to room-temperature and will have a greater deal of yeast flavor and also have dozens of sub-styles (pale ales, IPA, stout). There is a common misconception that a light beer is a lager, and a darker beer is an ale. Not true. There are very strong and dark examples of lager styles (such as a Dopplebock) and very light ales (such as a cream ale).
Since it's been floating in a river outdoors for who knows how long the light from the sun would have ruined the beer. There's a weird reaction that goes on in beer when it's exposed to sunlight that gives it that horrible skunk smell to it, and it can do that within a half hour. You can imagine how bad the beer would get after days, weeks, months...
I would have said that even if it was a guy. Nice way to throw around the "Sexist" term without taking into consideration the context. Now if would have said why did they send a woman, maybe you would have an argument, but clearly you are looking to be an internet badass.
I usually dont have a thing for older women but she is downright charming. Beautiful, confident, smart, and willing to try new things. I would love to take her out to a nice dinner and call her the next morning.
They did not mention which beer produces the worst headache the day after. My experience says: Kölsch! Indeed it tastes light and some kind of "unguilty", but spend one night with this blonde nice friend from cologne and your next day is already finished. Great video!
Hey we learned something!! Our posted song "2 Shots 2 Beers You're Good" we think may go well with this segment. Yes I would even consider the lyrics as talking smart.
@@georgemsilverman8106 what is wrong with the word cringe? It personifies the phrase 'this made me uncomfortable due to those in the video behaved in an overly familiar and wholesome manner to the extent at which i believe them to be without wit or backbone' in 6 letters. Grow up
I feel bad for this host. The Journal probably sent her on this assignment with zero prep. She clearly doesn’t understand (or like?) beer but she diligently tried each one. I give her credit for making it through each one, though altogether she barely nipped 2 ounces.
This is true alcohol abuse! She just nips the elixir, instead of taking a hearty mouthful to get all those bubbles and esters to tickle the palate before swallowing. After this session the barman probably just had to dump all of this. I wept a little.
Would have been a great video without the distracting, whiney, voice of the host. She's barely attempting to show any interest in this man's livelihood and the knowledge he is trying to share with her.
She is literally tipsy by the end of it. I don't blame her for taking little sips, she would have passed out halfway through with regular sized swallows. lol
It's not an unfair assessment. Guinness is a stout - and the most widely-known one at that. Yes, you are comparing an american imperial stout to an irish stout - but those are just different branches of the same tree.

Why is everyone picking on this woman? She was ok. Nothing out of the ordinary.
As far as women go yeah
Dang, now I want a beer. That stout made my mouth water. I don't even know if its any good, but I have that its a quality beer seeing that it was brewed in a microbrewery.
I wouldn't call Guinness a micro brewery
I wouldn’t consider it quality just because it’s micro.
bret b That’s not Guinness, that stout was brewed by that small brewery that man runs
All i can think of is the beer not being finished (~*_*)~
musicfude83 oh I'm sure people happily volunteered to help out.
If i had a chance to try those beers, I would be taking bigger sips than that!
I had never tried a porter till about a week ago I went for a vanilla brown porter or something like that. DAMN GOOD BEER.
ZenMasterT07 try an oatmeal porter

she def hates beer
That was an enjoyable short video. Succinct, and yet combined with fun banter. Nicely done, and aged well.
@2:50 that dude who thought he won't be captured in the camera. 🤣
I recall drinking espresso stout at a chain micro brewery in the D.C. area. it was potent, 14% alc. by vol. but very good ( if you like espresso)
I know your comment is so old, but that sounds so good and good right now to me.

Nice, what a great journalist
What area would Sam Adams Bostin Lagger fall under?
+Nick Wright in terms of similarity, probably the ale
Since i found you here would you please reply
I think the amber ale is more similar to the Sam Adams, but in terms of style it would probably be more similar to the wheat beer

She doesn't even taste them, she barely even sips them. What a waste.
+Pappy Tron she could at least act like she's tasting it.
