  • Edit: I said the wrong location in the video - the top bulb is the low beam and the lower bulb is the high beam!
    This DIY video will show you how to change the 3 bulbs in the headlight assembly of your Porsche Boxster 986 or Porsche 911 996.
    If you want to buy an "I AM THE WARRANTY" shirt OR if this saved you a good deal of time and/or money and want to buy me a coffee or a beer, you can do those things right here: ko-fi.com/help...

    Don't want to be a nitpicker but the upper bulb is actually the low beam and the lower is the high beam, might make a difference to someone working on their own car. Well explained and easy to follow otherwise.

    Couple things. You are missing the rubber plug that covers the opening. Second the Porsche tool is very soft metal. It works in an emergency, but I always use a socket as mine no longer works.

    • @HelpMeDIY
      @HelpMeDIY  4 роки тому

      Yeah I have a bad feeling that my (terrible) painter lost it. Turned out the headlight assembly was just pushed back into place and not secured 😒

    Did I notice that the wires, attached to the main and high beam had cracked insulation? Mine were that way, but a lot worse. Had to replace the entire cable harness. They are not made to do that. It is a hack, just like your heater duct fix was a "hack". Wish I could upload photos

    • @HelpMeDIY
      @HelpMeDIY  4 роки тому

      Yes I think so. Insulation in this car really shows its age!

      @@HelpMeDIY For some reason, the headlight area is much worse than any other area on my 2000. I suspect it may be due to using some of the newer brighter (and presumably hotter) bulbs

    • @HelpMeDIY

    That may be a silly question but are there no wires from the headlights to the car's electrical system ?

    • @HelpMeDIY
      @HelpMeDIY  2 роки тому +1

      +Tom Mou there are, but it’s a cool modular design. On the back of the assembly there is a sort of plug and plugs into the other end attached to the body of the car. Hard to explain in words, but when the headlight is properly seated it plugs that connection in by itself

    I upgraded mine to the Sylvania H7 Zevo LED and highly recommend them. They are more efficient than halogen to prevent the burnt headlight lens issue common with these cars, and what little heat they produce is dissipated through the ballast at the back. The installation is a bit different, you install a metal adapter which is identical to installing a halogen H7 bulb, then just screw in the LED bulb. Very ingenious and no modifications necessary. It's a whiter, brighter light. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/h7-sylvania-zevo-led-headlight-bulbs-2-pk-0200505p.0200505.html
