There is talent, then there is the top of a hierarchy of talent. Ray Charles looks down through binoculars every now and then and strains to se it. No contest!
And yet the lyrics are as pessimistic as you can get. That's what makes it brilliant to my ears, the juxtaposition of the major keys and the lyrical misery
[Verse 1] Now my room has got two windows but the sunshine never comes through, You know it's always dark and dreary since I broke off, baby, with you! I live on a lonely avenue, My little girl wouldn't say, "I do". Well, I feel so sad and blue and it's all because of you. I could cry, I could cry, i could cry, I could die, I could die, I could die, because I live on a lonely avenue, lonely avenue. [Verse 2] (Now my) covers they feel like lead and my pillow it feels like stone, Well, I've tossed and turned so ev'ry night, I'm not used to being alone! I live on a lonely avenue, My little girl wouldn't say, "I do". Well, I feel so sad and blue and it's all because of you. I could cry, I could cry, i could cry, I could die, I could die, I could die, because I live on a lonely avenue, lonely avenue. [Verse 3] Now I've been so sad and lonesome since you've left this town, If I could beg or borrow the money, child, I would be a highway bound! I live on a lonely avenue, My little girl wouldn't say, "I do". Well, I feel so sad and blue and it's all because of you. I could cry, I could cry, i could cry, I could die, I could die, I could die, because I live on a lonely avenue, lonely avenue.
I saw him front row. Really a magnificent human in the moment evything in is full body. Really nice guy. He was waking off I said hey Ray how ya doing, patted him o the back he replied very like talking to an old friend. Spiritual, amazing.. If you watch his 9-11 Tribute at ny baseball game… he making up his own words with his powerful message. He said my mom had us sing this when I was a boy. My friends and I sang this as a child sang with my friends. He asks the audience to sing along they were confused and wanted to come along but could not, finally it worked. BEAUTIFUL!
The wonderment of the sunlight through the window never occurred to me beforehand hearing this till it dawned on me pun intended that he was blind but could explain the light through the window more beautifully than any person with vision.
Funny story. I asked Chat GPT to recommend me a Blues song that's good but not as famous. And it recommend me this song. And this song is just too good. I'm loving it. I'm now marveling at how technology is growing.
Ray is timeless, wish I knew his music when my grandpa was alive. One of his favorites
Ray was one of a kind, he is helping me get through these rough times one song at a time
Same, it's like he laid the soundtrack out for mw
if it wasn't for ray we'd be dead lol
Pure genius

Pomus & Shuman song.
No. Doc Pomus wrote this song before he even met Mort Shuma.
Jimi Hendrix did a funky version of this song
Taj Mahal second best version.
Based on the Pilgrim Travelers’ song "How Jesus Died".
Damn thought it was a s Marley like both tho
Very good but i think if it were a little slower with more feeling it then would be real blues.
You're saying the one and only Ray Charles should play with more feeling... damn man, you're some kinda critic.
Jesse Kleinschmidt
man Mr. Charles lived and loved the blues everyday of his life, he has plenty of slow songs. There is many ways to play the blues!
U just tryna be in ya feelings more
Play it in x0.75 speed
Thats why u are not ray charles buddy 😂
Still prefer S. Marley's cover
I prefer reggae version steph Marley
It's nothing special...
What's not special?
