Mike gotta love Kent bergsma you really hit all the good stuff of need to know on these benz cars... I am relieved to see your doing well you really make the day better when your vids pop up your positivity is infectious!
Mike, you may remember, I work for OReillys; Import Direct is normally OE suppliers without the OE stamp. To prove the point, I bought a fuel pump for my Allroad, and it actually had the VW stamp still on it! In other words, it probably IS Bosch.
I wouldn't rush to change the regulator, that battery was very flat so its probably pulling a load of amps right now, also the brushes deserve a few days to fully bed in. Measure the voltage again in a few days but, your right, it does need to be up around high 13's or low 14's when the battery is fully charged.
Glad you're OK! House sounds nice so I hope it happens for you! I think the geese wanted Quack Quack to come out & play (or they wanted to poop on your car). I live near a landing zone.
We just replaced the voltage regulator on my Son's 190E at 91,000 miles. It improved the cold start immediately after installing it. The OG regulator had about 1mm left before it became unserviceable. Kent said if less than 5mm it should be replaced and keep an extra in the glovebox in case of emergencies. And yes he was right! Lol 😁
LOL @ Alvin the Chipmunk showing up for voiceovers. Love technology!!! Congrats on getting your car fixed, voltage regulator failing on my 2000 Taurus years ago was funny at night. Lights were pulsating like I was at the club lol
Mike, Awesome job! I have missed you, but, then, I haven't - even from from Florida, I tune in for a dose of Mike. Ah, still, I do miss these cool vids and thanks for another one! Stay safe, be well and I look forward to the next one! Your repair vids make us regular guys realize: "eh, one mistake doesn't mean a cavalcade of mistakes are coming because we just learned something!" I've been there, done that too many times ... man, I do have stories about my e32 750iL! O_o
You said something about brushes in the alternator? Maybe it takes hard bristle, and got a regulator with soft bristle? Fun to hear Alvin, Simon, and Theodore in your video!
Rough idle my friend!! Check and clean all the ground points. Change all fuses to copper. Check the distributor!! Pour some thinner into the fuel distributor.. just a little. Clean the fuel air mixture valve and check the 2 little wires connector. Copper plugs and leads Fuel pressure and air leak test. If your engine compression is fine then it should run smooth like a glass....good luck!! Don't forget the little black box attached at the back of fuel distributor!! What does Kent know? Buying and selling cars perhaps!!!!
I fixed a friend's W124 300E the same way. The local mobile mechanic quoted more than $600 to replace the alternator. I rang the local parts supplier and got the regulator for it for $25! It took less than 5 minutes to remove the old one and replace it with the new one with just a phillips screwdriver. There are really only two things likely to go wrong with an alternator. One is the bearings and the other is the regulator. Both situations are cheap and easy to fix.
Great video, I like the sped up portion. Rough idle on that car could be caused by a vacuum leak, spark plugs or coil. Sometimes rough idle is because of worn out motor mounts. Good luck, let us know.
Glad to hear you are doing OK, I was just getting worried. I hope your Mom is doing well too. Good luck on the house you are looking at, it sounds like the perfect one!
So great to see ya back Mike you were really missed. I think the problem with the camera speed made for some good content, as it didn't sound all that bad, you could still make out what was being said and it was funny lol.
Great to have you back, was getting concerned there for a moment. Great tip on voltage regulator, I would amend your title to something like Check Your Mercedes Voltage Regulator Before you Change out the Alternator or Battery, you will get a load more views!
That’s the same voltage regulator that’s on my Porsche 968, had the same problem on a drive home from work one day!, However fitting it on the 968 is a REAL PITA! Great video as always Mike! Keep safe !
I first changed the voltage regulator on my '85 380Sl and then ended up having the alternator rebuilt at a shop for $80. The shop said there were some bad diodes that needed to be changed. Good as new now. I too watch Mercedes source
This is how big companies discover they are employing too many people. Some might think it's better to give you a 50% raise and eliminate another full salary.
Mike, you will never retire from the tube. Hell at 53 I just had to retire because of a health reason and I am now on SSDI and I got approved in 6 months which of you know is amazingly fast especially now. PS retirement sucks because I am border and have trouble walking now so I am getting bored
HAHAHAHA! I about died when your phone sped up the video! Glad you decided to leave that in. Glad to hear you're doing well Mike. I will always be here to watch. So enjoy your content!
Glad to hear you're ok Mike. Just had similar issue with my Passat but mines battery related. Alternator putting out 14.1 volts but battery won't hold more than 12.2v, if I don't drive it more than two days it won't start. Guess I have a faulty cell in the battery. 😠
The rough idle could be caused by: a vacuum leak, faulty injectors, messed up fuel distributor, bad ignition coil or poorly calibrated air flow potentiometer. Vacuum leaks are very common in these engines, so most likely is that. Also, ethanol in fuel messes up the fuel distributors so be careful. Also, I see that your oil pressure gauge is stuck at 3, check and replace your oil pressure sensor.
I'm going to suspect the voltage regulator brushes are worn out. That's why I'm changing that and the crank position sensor on my 02 E430. My 88 300SE can't start after stopping for gas.! Crank position sensor gets hot and the ignition can't fire. Only 25$ for the 2002, the 88 is more because it comes with a long cable. I'd change that on yours before it gets you.
I don't know if you fixed your rough idle....but check ( IF that car has one) your Purge Valve...mine on my 1993 W124 400E was stuck open, creating a vacuum leak and therefore a rough ( erratic) idle
in other cars they only change the two black parts ...but Mercedes is the boss... today i put a full gas and guess what s ! i discover my gasket ful pump is damaged the comes out and 😲😲😲 keep yourself save
@@MonkeyWrenchMike Doormans I believe is the Oreillys brand. I heard you say you would replace it later with Bosch. Sorry I asked before watching your video till the end. Stay safe and wash your hands! Lol 😁
Kent is the man, I watch his channel , he has help me out alot. We really like you Mike!!

I like the way you take the mystery out of German car maintenance. Thanks, Mike, for your videos.
Well THAT was fun!! I'd take the garage/workshop place, the house is secondary
Kent knows his stuff :)
Glad you're safe and doing well. I have to admit, I do like sped up, helium voice, Monkey wrench very much!!!! lol Can't wait for the next one!

Mike, thanks for the videos, and hope the main job stays ok, and you too.
Glad you are ok. As usual the easy way doesn’t always work. Stay healthy and safe.

I learn a lot of stuff from Uncle Kent. He knows his stuff

It's charging in the low 13volt range because the battery is low which drags it down some. Good luck on the house. Hang in there Mike!
Can’t wait for the next video mike. It’s a strange world now also here in the Netherlands.Stay safe Mike👊🏻👊🏻
I kinda like the new chipmunkey wrench mike! LOL
We love you Mike and especially the Chipmunk
Mike, you checked the voltage at idle. I think 13.00 is fine at idle. It goes up when you accelerate. I don't think you need a new regulator.
