I really enjoy the honesty when you do this evaluations and give your opinions. Instead of saying "we totally got it as good as the original" you rather say honestly you cannot 100% copy any maker and you are not afraid to say things like "something might have been lost". But you also bring out the point that a sound can be just as beautiful even if it's different, like between different makers and different pianos of the same maker. This are easily the best made videos of this sort in the whole of the internet. I also 100% agree that the sound of the oldies is generally more enjoyable. They are more mellow and resonant, whereas the new ones are mostly "overly clear and bright". As so much is done with machines instead of by hand and many parts precision cut and mass produced by machines, you seem to lose some of that liveliness that this older pianos have. Some of this also sometimes have the "bell like tone" like some of the great grand pianos have.
A lot less your playing on this video than "usual", which of course keeps the video shorter when you demo several pianos, but would be nice to hear more of your playing certainly, as you can better make out the harmonies going on and the overall balance of the tone.

Thank you for your kind comments Widiar. You have picked up well how my father prefers to describe and discuss. You have a good ear for comparison of pianos, we would agree on tone and character of older pianos, we do enjoy them more than new. However, we sell both.
Thank you for your suggestion, my father reads the comments and picks up points to improve. Thank you again, please do subscribe and share. Best wishes, Evan Roberts

been a Long time since Steinway used agraffes in their uprights. Then......in the 1900 Steinway, there is the accursed Steinway heavy-duty pressure bar.

Hi Robert, At 2:04 I can see copper wound strings, why is it that the triple wound strings come after the double wound? Isn't it usually the other way around?

Well spotted! Unusually when pitch raising and fine tuning one of the three broke; I mention this at 14:38. This only happens about once a year with new strings; we are getting the string maker to make it again. All fully restored pianos carry 10-year guarantees. Marcus
