For those bothered by the weight, just remember the words of Boris the Blade: "heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it does not work, you can always hit them with it"
Um. Heavy does not mean reliable, rarely does it mean good and nearly every gun can be used to violently hit someone when it's not working. Congratulations on posting the dumbest quote I've seen on y.t. in the last 15 years.
I especially like the Desert Eagle's portrayal in The Matrix - it's a subtle way of portraying the inhuman nature of the Agents by constantly showing them firing the weapon single-handedly.
I fire mine single handed, so Im either inhuman or a large guy. Really, they aren't that bad for us gorilla sized people. A SW 500 kicks a bit more, but the barrel is higher over the handle.
As someone who has fired this gun several several times in real life, while being only 5 feet, seven inches tall... its not as bad as people make it seem. It's very accurate and the recoil isn't that bad. I've shot 357 revolvers with more recoil.
@@setcheck67 I’ve got a non-ported one, and can shoot it single-handedly without discomfort as a 180lbs average dude. It’s like a 45acp but a little more. The recoil impulse isn’t painful. The 500 s&w is painful, though, since there’s no reciprocating mass. I will say, I am inaccurate with the Deagle, and would prefer 15+1 9mm over 7+1 50ae, any day.
i love big dumb pistols. i open carry and take a big ol 7 cylinder .357 magnum with me pretty much everywhere. yeah its heavy and uncomfortable. but i dont care. wish i could afford a desert eagle. they are awesome.
Honestly it really makes sense being large, powerful, expensive, and less practical for it to have such a pop culture footprint. It really comes across as the ultimate status symbol firearm.
The Desert Eagle is also a LOT easier to use in a movie than in real life as well. Blanks have considerably less recoil than live rounds as they both have lower powder charges and more importantly not throwing a projectile down range.
@@daegnaxqelil2733 Nope. It's called physics. Ask Gun Jesus from Forgotten Weapons about shooting a 50 BMG with one hand. Also try and find one real life example on video of someone able to shoot this one handed without crazy recoil.
Yer but even in the military hummers were awful. They fulfill no role. In terms of light transport they’re too big and wide to be used effectively in any urban environment. In terms of an armoured person carrier. It was not well armoured and so could not fulfill this role. However this didn’t stop the us military from trying for 20 years.
My wife picked one out. It’s a lot of fun to shoot. But the BEST part is- sharing it at the range. Watching people shoot it for the first time and watching their reactions is worth the $2 pull!
As a Desert Eagle owner I can can confirm that they are heavy (weigh nearly 5lbs unloaded), impractical, expensive ($1699 and up) and awkward to handle for newcomers. However they are a fun range toy and can definitely be used in a self defense role. Granted you'd probably take care of the threat in front of you and who ever was unfortunate enough to be on the other side of the wall behind them. The 357 variant is probably the most practical in terms of cost (ammo) and actual utility. Unless you've got an out break of bears, T-rex, tigers (the tank) or the sudden urge to to dislocate your wrist whilst taking down that pesky government satellite.
I know a few people who use the .429 for hunting pretty effectively. I myself had a 357 one (had to sell it) and a 50AE one. Pretty fun. The 357 used to be an EDC for me. Great gun as long as you didn't put ammo with light loads through it. Pretty nice trigger too.
On the bright side if you fire this in an indoor self defence scenario you'll probably be too deaf to hear your neighbour screaming through the wall about their dog exploding.
@@ninjafruitchilled Actually shockingly using high calibre weapons like the Deagle you're less likely to have the police against you, because people shot with it get knocked the f*** out from the impact(almost guaranteed to break bones and cause shock) and it usually passes straight through the body. It's a lot harder for the police to use the argument that you used excessive force when individuals shot with it are more likely to survive and be pacified. It's also just harder to accidentally shoot too many times, which again the police might use against you. Usually excessive force is homeowners using shotguns with spread like buckshot or hollow points, which are almost guaranteed to cause death/numerous surgeries by design or they get you with the "Why did you shoot 5 times?". Even still the smartest home defense is a shotgun loaded with slugs.
After all these years of playing halo, I never put it together that the ce pistol was supposed to be a deagle. But it totally makes sense, now i won't be able to unsee it haha.
Ehhh I wouldn’t say it was SUPPOSED TO BE a Desert Eagle… It’s the Magnum, it’s its own thing in the Haloverse. I would not say the magnum is trying to be a Deagle in the same way I’d not say the BR is trying to be an M16. BUT it does make perfect sense that Chief is slinging a .50 caliber pistol, that’s true.
As the proud owner of a desert eagle 50ae, I'm happy to say that I love it and is my most favorite possession that I own. But that being said, I can also attest to the fact that it is slow, heavy, and thus inaccurate (certainly at least if you don't have the strength and grip to steady it). Another problem with it that is rarely mentioned (a fact rarely covered with any gun) is the fact that it's high maintenance. I say that because I made the rookie mistake of not cleaning the thing for a while after using it and found out the hard way that if a gun gets too much powder in it, it can rust all the parts and lock it, which is especially bad considering that desert eagle has to be a pretty well tuned in order to handle all that power. But I managed to get it fixed and I'm happy to say it's working again, but I have come to say from experience though that it is certainly not a gun for everybody. Me on the other hand, I liked it for its power and appearance; and if power comes with a price this is one of those times I gladly paid it.
@@bradhaines3142 , I don't know about a desert eagle; plus I don't think that would have helped considering that the entire sliding mechanism had been rusted together especially.
For that, something like a Super Redhawk would be more practical than a Desert Eagle. No persnickety gas system to deal with, easier to legally acquire, and available in cartridges even more powerful than .50 AE (like .454 Casull, which is definitely a bear-killing cartridge).
@@yetanother9127 Eh, .454 Casull has similar muzzle energy to some of the hotter loaded .50AE rounds, and the Desert Eagle does have a higher capacity (7+1 vs. 6) and less recoil due to said gas system as well as being semi auto. So the Desert Eagle is practical in that sense, although the gas system does also mean it's more maintenance intensive. Need to keep it clean in order for good function, like most gas operated firearms.
I always remember this gun from the boardroom scene in "Robocop". It was originally going to be used as Robo's sidearm, but they decided it wasn't big enough.
One of my dad's friends brought one of these to the range when I was a kid. It was like holding a 2x4. The grip is huge. It has to be in order for the magazine to hold magnum cartridges.
@@sam8404 Grip size is the same. The desert eagle is very modular, and you can convert between calibers easily. For instance, I have a .44 magnum deagle, and if I wanted to switch it to .50 AE, I could change out the barrel and magazine in about 15 seconds. Every desert eagle from the same generation have completely interchangeable parts.
3:30 Fun trivia: The M6D in Halo CE was directly inspired by the desert eagle, but because Bungie loves the number 7, they chambered their super pistol in 12.7x40mm by adding 7 to the 12.7x33mm .50 AE. S&W would later come out with a 12.7x41mm cartridge, which is the closest real approximation. If there's ever been a 12.7x41mm self loading handgun, I've never heard of it.
It would be awkward to make a pistol with .500 Magnum due to both the sheer length of the case and the rimmed nature of revolver rounds, so I can see why .50 AE is the upper threshold for any of the Desert Eagle's fellow mag-fed hand cannons.
@@RedHeadKevin yep you mean like ma deuce - ppl get confused with it all. Well, everyone understands bore and length but it isn't explicit if you don't enjoy or study guns
@@Gigadweeb I do agree with its efficiency, yet the sbr is only "really" effective against soft body armor, because of the short barrel and such, taking into account the louder than normal bang as well it becomes enough to stun a man without hearing protection. Not saying the Desert Eagle is better, but if I wanted to take a shot at 100-150 meters I'd take the good ole heavy hammer over an mp7/ak-74u any day of the week.
I'd personally rather use a high energy, high caliber cartridge if I have to take on an angry grizzly bear than a PDW round. That's what handguns like the Deagle are used for. Same with the .44 Magnum Model 29 or the .500 Magnum Model 500 that Smith and Wesson makes.
I don't know if it's changed, but I remember hearing that many infantry troops didn't like carrying a pistol in the first place- they'd have rather used the weight and space to carry some extra grenades.
i feel like grenades or a side arm that wont strain you as much is better alternative, i would take something that have decent mag capacity, that easy to shoot with 1 hand in.
It's definitely a hand gun that everyone would want if they have a gun collection but being the go to gun to shoot at the range is another story entirely.
Not really. I have a decent gun collection and the eagle has no place in it, for shooting or otherwise. I guess I just don't feel the need to compensate for anything. Shooting it also isn't very impressive. It's just more kick, shrug. If you're talking similarly priced guns, I'd get a SIG P210 over it any day.
Not entirely true. The .50 yeah definitely. The thing has so much recoil that it's not practical to use but there's also the micro eagle and baby eagle models that use a variety of different calibers. 9mm or 40 are actually usable and have very little recoil seeing how the weapon is actually made out of steel rather than carbon fiber. The baby eagle is still pretty large though. Unusable for people with small hands. The ex wife couldn't reach the slide release. I could operate it without any issues just fine though.
Its funny that people associate the Beretta 92(F) with John Woo movies when almost all of his famous Gangster flicks regularly feature at least a M1911, a Browning Hi-Power, a Smith & Wesson 39, a Glock and a CZ-75 and the Beretta is often actually a Taurus PT92 (a Brazilian manufactured version of the Beretta). Is it his favourite gun or what? I know that he speaks fondly of the gun, because it looks so iconic and its chrome-versions looks great on camera with its nice curves reflecting the light beautifully... Well, I think I just answered my own question.
And it's actually used. Don't get me wrong, I know that fantasy is fantasy, and the Deagle is pretty good-looking, but the M9 is both good-looking AND practical.
When I think about a Beretta I think of RoboCop, and his heavily modified Beretta that thing was as big as a shotgun, and Murphy would walk around touting it like it was a 1911😁😆 when RoboCop would twirl and spin it into his leg holster it looked ridiculous like he was twirling a baseball bat LoL.
I had the .44 version in the early 2000’s. It was fun going to the range and letting everyone there have a turn using it. Ammo just became way too expensive. A dollar a shot was ridiculous.
I'm lucky enough to live in France (where gun laws are less strict than in places like the UK and Australia) and be a member of a shooting club. This morning I got to fire a few rounds with a Desert Eagle chambered in .44 magnum, it was good fun, MUCH more precise than people think and the trigger pull was surprisingly good but the sheer size and weight of it make it impractical and not particularly easy to use. I've got big hands but I wouldn't trust myself to shoot it one handed because you can't wrap your hand around the grip correctly.
I'm a fan of big guns, magnum calibers, and automatics. I've tried real hard to make myself like the Deagle, but I just can't. Just too big, heavy, and impractical for any purpose I'd have for a handgun. My MPA "MAC" in 460 Rowland isn't as clunky as the Deagle.
Were you familiar with Ahoy's "Iconic Arms" series when you started Loadout, Dave? I just noticed it's the second time I listen to a brit talking about the history behind famous videogame firearms.
@@CGCTV He likes to take his time releasing videos. Afaik he also does this as a hobby and has a day job. Personally I don't mind, Ahoy is all about that quality over quantity.
Simple, game and narrative balance. Health pools make higher "damage" weapons useful even though real weapons lethality is more dependent on hit location unless there is an extreme power difference (such as rifle bullets moving fast enough to produce a shockwave) to the point that surrounding tissue is effected lowering the accuracy requirement
It's big, it's often gold & tiger striped, and shows up well on the screen. That's easy. While it may be seldom seen in the UK, but heck I saw one on the range just last month, plus I have one.... With a 44 conversion kit if I run low on 50ae. I would say a S&W 500 is more seldom seen in comparison.
To be fair S&W 500 being a revolver it does not have the engineering of the Deagle to compensate for the majority of the recoil. Every gun channel on You Tube I have seen shooting it, absolutely hates having to shoot it. Evan fans of big guns like Kentucky ballistics don't enjoy having to use it in a video.
Think my 2 earliest views of this gun was RE2 where it just went as “Magnum” unless checking description, and in MGS1 with Meyrl sporting the Deagle as her normal weapon. It was pretty funny after RE2 they went purely back to revolvers for their magnums until I believe re4 which had a 1911 as a magnum haha. And MGS it vanished til coming back in MGS4 again with Meyrl, but as the long barrel variant. Really fun insight video!
I've actually made custom IWB carry holsters for a customers old IMI dessert eagle and a 8 inch S&W 500 magnum. An he does carry them. He had an older IWB for his Desert Eagle but it wore out so he had me make him a new one. He shot the gun so much he replaced parts often. He could even shoot it reliably one handed. However when the parts for the old IMI model became hard to find he got a 500 magnum. Now he carries that.
@@project86xero Pretty impressive. Dude must be jacked or have the grip strength of a gorilla. Can't really compare carrying a 249 to shooting a 50 BMG with one hand. Sounds like the dude just was the manliest of men. Someone a person would model a action movie after perhaps?
Special props for including those clips of "La Femme Nikita." Arguably Luc Besson's best movie (ties with Fifth Element for me), and it's great showcase of how to actually do an action thriller with a female lead.
I have the chrome plated .44 magnum...another thing people don't realize, is just how heavy it is when it is fully loaded. Its hard to hold and aim for more than a few seconds with one hand. That is why you need to shoot it with two.
This reminds me of those old Ahoy videos where he covered individual guns in gaming history. If you haven't seen those I highly suggest you check them out because he went more into lore in games and history of games using specific types of guns. Ahoy is one of the best gaming history creators of all time on YT. I really feel like if they hired him for a collad this series would of gone to the moon. Props to Jonathan and team for putting these out I look forward to see more in depth ones on some larger than life guns in games.
I think my first acquaintance with the Desert Eagle was in the 2000 Soldier of Fortune game. Somehow I remember the handgun making an impression there. It was of course immortalized in my memory through CS.
Thing is most militaries that issue sidearms do so with the mantra that it is to get you back to your rifle. That’s it. Its not a primary weapon. Police use pistols because its light, low recoil, and had high capacity.
Not only that but 9mm can cause enough damage to neutralize targets without killing them entirely. Using this as a service sidearm would absolutely obliterate any of the parts it hits, in most cases murdering suspects.
5:49 i just wanna say its really cool that these are explained as such, we dont often hear about uses like those when it comes to the guns we see in our video games.
I can see why they don't get used but after using a newer model real one in .357 it surprisingly felt good to shoot and was fairly accurate. Nice trigger pull and felt better to use than many of the 1911 and 2011s. I still wouldn't choose it as a practical sidearm but you do feel good shooting a big pistol like the Deser Eagle. They are (at least the one I used) better than people give them credit
@@astro6009 357 one i found wasn't even a bad EDC when you practice holster draws enough. As long as you have a sturdy belt, the weight isn't much of an issue and it offers way more capacity than any other 357 magnum firearm
@@DreadnoughtHvor 357 is hardly a practical EDC though. You don't want to overpenetrate in a defense scenario, and you get way more chances to hit with a 9mm, or even most .40s
@@astro6009 ??? Based on what info? 357 was a cartridge that was found to have a greater percentage of stopping a threat with one shot (over 60% of cases)...more so than 9mm (less than 50%) or 40s (slightly over 50%). Source: TierThreeTactical's "Analyzing 1800 Shootings" (no hyperlinks allowed, so you'll have to search it). Furthermore, both 9mm and 40s will overpen interior walls with 147 gr JHPs or heavier. As stated, the Desert Eagle in 357 has a 9 + 1 capability. That's far superior to any revolver that you're thinking of. (Disclaimer: My comment keeps getting deleted)
As someone that had the privilege of shooting one, there was a reason we left it until the end of the day to shoot. Honestly, after shooting an entire magazine I was done. It is heavy, f%^&ing loud and kicks like a mule - also the muzzel flash on these things are something to behold.
Now, finally, after all these years...I can rest at ease knowing that the sole reason Agent K gave Agent J a Noisy Cricket as his first sidearm was because it perfectly match Agent J's personality.
Every gun store I've been to seems to have at least one of these that has been collecting dust for at least a decade. Bought multiple times and with fewer than fifty rounds through it in total.
Wyatt Earp said that the most important thing was to be able to shoot straight fast and for that you'd want a rifle. He said anyone who was using a hand gun was going to be at a disadvantage.
For me, that's the very reason I chose the Dirt Bird! Gas-operated, rotating (and very mutated-AR-looking) bolt, polygonal rifling. The versions with bolt-on and integrated compensators are both bonkers. The 10" barreled model is beyond absurd. It's just so weird, while the Grizz truly is just a giant 1911. The LAR makes the widely-available MR gun look like a bargain as well: the only LAR I've seen in person a few years ago was used, albeit in factory-floor mint condition, and the seller was asking $2,950. And it was in puny .357. At a glance on GunJoker, I see a 45WinMag with a starting bid of $2,450, and another with a 'buy-it-now' of $4,525. I'll stick with the Deagle and the extra 3 mags of ammo that $2k difference will get me :D
it's a shame the LAR rarely appears in video games instead of overseen Deserts and standard 45. M1911. It is because the LAR is a criminally obscure gun? so that's why the game devs never though of its existence so they put more popular guns instead?
@@daegnaxqelil2733 The way stuff's modeled, it might also be difficult to convey that it's a larger-than-normal 1911. Otherwise it just looks like an A1 with a big brake.
I owned a .44 back in the day. Lots of fun at the range, though it didn't care for reloads. The best thing about it, when you fired most other handguns after firing the Desert Eagle felt like firing a .22.
"This is a niche within a niche" - very true. Where I live, there are very few ranges that are rated for .50AE for a start. Not to mention: One full magazine of 7 rounds equals between 15 and 20+ bucks in ammunition. And the cartridges usually come in packs of 20. That stuff is indeed expensive AF, even if you buy in bulk (in which case you clearly have too much money on your hands). There are not THAT many manufacturers around that even make .50AE and those who do are usually more "premium" brands.
Deagle's a decent buy for round 2, everyone else is using the smg, probably p90 or ump, so why not pick the deagle and get some easy headshots? If you can't already tell, this vid highkey made me wanna play some csgo again for the first time in years
It rewards skill, at least in counter strike. That makes it so prestigious to use and master. Plenty of memorable plays from the best players are achieved by this weapon choice and have direct impact to important matches at giant tournaments. In a game I played during my childhood, Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, the Deagle had a gold variant unlocked at rank 71 (out of 72) and I believe that is the highest I ever reached.
I got my Desert Eagle in .50AE in november. Fell in love with the thing. It's not a gun you buy for your first gun on anything. You need to work you way up to it. That being said, It's really accurate and a lot of fun to shoot at the range. Since I'm mostly a range head and don't hunt as much as I used to It works for me.
In Canada all handguns are range guns, so I picked up a DE in .357 and it is my favorite gun. Superbly accurate and kicks like a 9mm with all that mass.
And in almost every depiction it is inaccurately shown as a double action pistol. It can only fire when the hammer is cocked, but almost every game shows it with the hammer decocked.
Why anyone would use one for a real tactical purpose is beyond me. I guess the intimidation factor but frankly even then there are better choices. I know the gun most from the Resident Evil games.
From Desert Eagle to deagle, from one shotting someone with said deagle to the short hand "one deag" and from the one deag to "juan deag" leading to the surname of juan diego, the lingo from CS is fascinating.
I owned a .357 version once. It was a beautiful gun and did quite well in target shooting such as magnum precision. Kind of miss it. It was torally impractical but soo cool. :)
I remember the gun mags at the time going on about how this would be the new generation of carry guns for military and law enforcement, old school 1911's and revolvers were now obsolete and .357 magnum was the absolute minimum and up to two extra rounds over a revolver would make all the difference ...
@@reaganharder1480 Between the two something like a S&W 686 with seven shots is probably the better option. But back then people really believed everyone was going to adopt the Desert Eagle, just like all the target shooters dismissed the Glock as a silly inaccurate plastic pistol that needed 17 shots to be slightly stable. The amount of change in gun culture from the 1980's to today is incredible.
My first contact with the Desert Eagle was Kevin Smith's movie Dogma from 1999. And there it was with all the arguments you gave us: It's big, it's shiny, and it lets the bad guy look even tougher.
I shot one at a range in Thailand some 10 years back. Even seated and braced on a bag the kick was ungainly. If you had to use one unexpectedly for self defense, without ear protection, I reckon you'd be gambling with deafness even if you come out fine.
So. I am an American, and I have held one of these in both .50AE and .357, I have to say. You guys have done great at telling the truth about firearms.
Originally Robocop was going to use a desert eagle but it was “too small” for him. With the thick suit on Peter Weller the Deagle, even with its massive size, looked small when he held it, so they modified a Beretta M93R. I’ve a replica, it’s massive it’s only a few inches shorter than a P90.
It's massive in size, heavy, small magazine, recoil kicks harder then an angry mule, an the rounds aren't cheap. I wonder why it's not an everyday carry lol.
There is a class of large, high powered handguns for military use sometimes referred to as "assault handguns". Ironically, the Deagle isn't considered an assault handgun, it simply isn't fit for military applications. The most famous assault handgun, the HK Mark 23, is used by several military and law enforcement units all over the world. It's most famous video game representation is probably the Metal Gear Solid franchise, where it's often Snake's standard lethal sidearm.
It's funny that it was compared to Conan's sword - very apt, as that sword is also not what anyone interested in using a sword as a sidearm would ever choose.
buddy of mine makes his own ammo, he let me shoot diffrent guns and his favorite magnum calibar was a revolver, not the Deagle. It totally makes a diffrence on recoil, how much blackpowder there is in your ammunition. It can have as little of a recoil as a normal handgun, either way, the experience was great since im not too knowledgable or used to guns, living in europe.
I was at the pistol range and this gangster looking dude strolled up and pulled out a nickel plated DE. It was in pretty bad shape because he had to fiddle with each round to get them to fire. But the shockwave just from firing one round out of that thing was pretty incredible. I could feel wind from it standing about 20 feet away.
Slow, heavy, and inaccurate... But that doesn't stop it from one of the greatest pistols in gaming and movie history. If you got this beauty, then you're a lucky fellow. Bonus points if it's *GOLD!* I love me a big and powerful gun...
i disagree with it being inaccurate. no play in how the barrel locks onto the frame, its as accurate as the shooter. mines cerakoted in a nice chameleon purple/green. heavy to help recoil, slow because ur throwing 2-3 dollars downrange with each shot. its fun to bring out and end a session and to turn heads :)
I knew the dingbat on the single speed bike was a cutout for a military drug supplier when he flashed a gold plated Desert Eagle. I had to look up what type of weapon it was later. No one believed me when I told them about it. No one believed such a weapon came in gold plating. Today, I see one again in your Borat clip. Thanks for putting my mind at rest about that. I'm not usually so interested in gun types. Having one in your face has an amazing focusing effect.
I owned one for a while. The internet advised against this, saying that owners buy it... then it becomes a "Safe Queen" ... then they sell it. That is *exactly* what happened with me. I was excited to have it at first, but it is not fun to shoot. It's *novel* to shoot... but once that novelty wears off, you just have a gun that you do not enjoy shooting, that is *expensive* to shoot, and that you only bring it out shooting when you're going with other people so that _they_ can shoot it. I bought it ... I sold it at a bit of a loss a year or two later.
As an owner of one, a lot of what they have said is quite true. From a practicality standpoint, it basically has none. As mentioned, it is big, and it is heavy. Trying to get a proper grip on it can be a challenge for anyone with smaller hands. In addition to the grip size, the sheer weight and forward mass of it makes it quite difficult to be steady and accurate with. Having said that, the pistol itself is incredibly accurate. In the hands of an experienced shooter, it can be quite common to hit targets well in excess of 100 yards. Yes, the ammunition for it is absurdly expensive. Many people that own them and actually enjoy shooting them end up saving significantly by loading their own ammo, though. For example, I can buy factory new ammo for around 30-35 bucks for a box of 20 rounds, or about $1.50-$1.75 each. By simply saving the brass, I can reload it for around 75 cents each. Over time, that adds up to be a significant savings. Aside from the sheer weight and bulk, the other issue with it is the reliability. When properly maintained, they run phenomenally. However, if you are bad about cleaning it and let the dirt and grime build up, it will start running into malfunctions quite frequently. All that being said, it may not be practical, and it may be expensive, but it is just downright fun. I will happily admit that I own mine for no other reasons than I wanted one, and I find it incredibly fun to shoot. It always leaves me grinning from ear to ear after firing it. If something happened to my current one, I would absolutely buy another in an instant, just because I get that much enjoyment out of it.
More likely, its huge size and weight would be the main reason for not carrying it as a sidearm. Its weight would actually help to control recoil (and reduce "recoil energy") but the recoil of magnum handgun rounds is perfectly manageable in smaller and lighter, more "carryable" handguns.
Funnily enough, no. Apparently it had a lot of reliability issues that made it impractical for most military applications. That, and of course the fact that it's a heavy thing to have as a sidearm (you might as well use that weight for more mags for your actual rifle), fires an impractically large round (even in .357), and realistically was only going to get used in seriously unique occasions, like an invasion of elite commando polar bears.
I’ve Owned my Desert Eagle Mark 1 44 mag since April of 1989 and Still love it!!! Awesome Gun to own and shoot!! Talk all you want want about how useless the Desert Eagle is that few people will ever shoot in real life, and even fewer will ever own!!!!
For those bothered by the weight, just remember the words of Boris the Blade: "heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it does not work, you can always hit them with it"
Pull your socks up..
Boris the Blade!
It's anything but reliable though.
Um. Heavy does not mean reliable, rarely does it mean good and nearly every gun can be used to violently hit someone when it's not working. Congratulations on posting the dumbest quote I've seen on y.t. in the last 15 years.

The Deagle is the Hummer of handguns. Loud, flashy, expensive, far too big for its own good, and mostly used by villains.
And Arnold.
Haha brilliant used by villains got me
Not a good example as Hummers got use in the military

No, no, for polar bears you bring the Grizzly.
usually a 10 or 12 gauge w/slugs is what they use in the north pole against polar bears

S&W would later come out with a 12.7x41mm cartridge, which is the closest real approximation. If there's ever been a 12.7x41mm self loading handgun, I've never heard of it.
i always nicknamed it the futuristic desert eagle in this game. not only because of its appearance but also its power. crazy
It would be awkward to make a pistol with .500 Magnum due to both the sheer length of the case and the rimmed nature of revolver rounds, so I can see why .50 AE is the upper threshold for any of the Desert Eagle's fellow mag-fed hand cannons.

The baby eagle is still pretty large though. Unusable for people with small hands. The ex wife couldn't reach the slide release. I could operate it without any issues just fine though.

From Desert Eagle to deagle, from one shotting someone with said deagle to the short hand "one deag" and from the one deag to "juan deag" leading to the surname of juan diego, the lingo from CS is fascinating.
I think that it'd be instructional if you did a video on different cartridge types and the differences in their best applications.
And yet there are still law enforcement officers carrying (presumably large) revolvers.
And there it was with all the arguments you gave us: It's big, it's shiny, and it lets the bad guy look even tougher.
what a great quality video. top production.
Deagle comes from Goldeneye (released in 1997), not CS (released in 1999).
So credit should be given to RareWare.
I'm gonna call it the Desert Ego. That's the main reason people own one in real life. To look and feel cool
And I'm too poor to afford one :(
This is (probably) said by man who has never fired one.
@@benkelly7499 Wrong. I've shot the 44 mag and 50AE versions
It's easily the most good looking pistol ever made. Which is probably the reason film makers like it. Look good and badass on camera.
Lugers look way better but it's all subjective
M1911 imo
It's massive in size, heavy, small magazine, recoil kicks harder then an angry mule, an the rounds aren't cheap. I wonder why it's not an everyday carry lol.
this video completely overlooks the #1 reason nobody uses it: its constant jamming
Could you do an episode on Walther's guns in games? The PP7 ( PPK) in Goldeneye, the P99 in Modern Warfare 3, and so on.
The deagle was my fav pistol in CS 1.6
There is a class of large, high powered handguns for military use sometimes referred to as "assault handguns". Ironically, the Deagle isn't considered an assault handgun, it simply isn't fit for military applications. The most famous assault handgun, the HK Mark 23, is used by several military and law enforcement units all over the world. It's most famous video game representation is probably the Metal Gear Solid franchise, where it's often Snake's standard lethal sidearm.
It's funny that it was compared to Conan's sword - very apt, as that sword is also not what anyone interested in using a sword as a sidearm would ever choose.
8:50 "there is something similar about these guys though..."
This got me good. Genuine chuckle
buddy of mine makes his own ammo, he let me shoot diffrent guns and his favorite magnum calibar was a revolver, not the Deagle. It totally makes a diffrence on recoil, how much blackpowder there is in your ammunition.
It can have as little of a recoil as a normal handgun, either way, the experience was great since im not too knowledgable or used to guns, living in europe.
It's huge, heavy, tremendous recoil, low round count, and difficult to use effectively.
This is what happens when explosive force is prioritized.
I bought a .50 AE Desert Eagle and I love it. The recoil is similar to a sub compact .45 to me and its very accurate.
The 50 AE version is too unwieldy for most, and many other pistols simply have better value for money when compared to smaller versions of these
I was at the pistol range and this gangster looking dude strolled up and pulled out a nickel plated DE.
Bonus points if it's *GOLD!*
I love me a big and powerful gun...
I prefer high caliber revolver in video games.
i disagree with it being inaccurate. no play in how the barrel locks onto the frame, its as accurate as the shooter. mines cerakoted in a nice chameleon purple/green. heavy to help recoil, slow because ur throwing 2-3 dollars downrange with each shot. its fun to bring out and end a session and to turn heads :)
@@mrfuzzyibrows Okay...still pretty heavy though.
A hand cannon only an ork could love.
MORE DAKKA
My favorite part of firing the 50ae is the muzzle flash ring. Perfect donut every time
I think Deagle is usable
at least if you using .357/.44 mag
I've shot a .357 Deagle but I'm not sure is does anything better than a good .357 revolver...
@@derekp2674 can't Deny that
Revolver always means business
The first and only time I used one consisted of me squeezing the trigger and immediately the recoil had me aiming practically skyward.
"Most powerful handgun in the world" Dave has clearly never heard of the .500 S&W
I guess he means semi-automatic handgun
Or the stopping power of .45auto
Or the suave sofistication of the walter ppk
The most powerful semi-automatic handgun is not a desert eagle, it's the .475 from the movie death wish 3
People often forget about the DESERT BEAGLE
So no one uses it because the recoil is too big to control?
Yes its wildly impractical
Probably because of .50 AE
Deagle can also be chambered on .357/.44 magnum
its a huge gun, really heavy, only single stack mags. generally not practical
It used to be a Fortnite favorite untill they nerfed it
