I have to tell you, this was one of the best videos I have ever seen on you tube, you are very well spoken. I learned so much by watching you make this., Thank you so much.
Have done a bit of sewing in my life and I find this is an excellent guide you provide. Thank you so much! Well spoken, good photography, good sequence. I'll be back!
I've had minimal experience sewing as a child and am now trying to make tiny 10in doll clothes. This has helped me SO MUCH understanding it all!! Thank you!!
Thank you for the FREE D/L on this pattern,I just sign up to your site and soon will upgrade. I love all your tutorials and all the free pattern downloads you get when you sign-up.
Okay walked away left tape running get the most but why not use the Velcro circles sewn on or those plastic snaps? I think the best thing about the pattern is it can be made longer in the torso for our string bean babies or shortened if they have petite body types. 🙂Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, this is a great tutorial! For the stay stitching, and the initial step of putting on the binding, I'm confused about using straight stitches. Usually with stretchy fabrics, I've been told that you either use stretch thread or a stretch stitch like a zig zag since the stitches will pop when stretching. If I don't have stretch thread, can I use a zig zag stitch to stay stitch? What is your recommendation on this?
the stay stitch is to keep the curved neckline from getting stretched out weird and distorted through the assembly process. If you're worried about it, make it basting stitch and then remove it later
These are extremely easy and fast to make! I must say, I am very impressed with how flat your bottom seams are - I've got a few waves in mine. I'm trying not to stretch anything! :)
Can a newbie sewist successfully make this? i have never made clothes for babies or for anyone for that matter. Thanks. Also do you need a stretch needle would that help?
hello , you make it look so easy and so well explained that I would like to have a go but I cannot find the link to the pattern, I went to the website but it takes me back to the video, not sure what I am doing wrong....
Am I understanding this correctly? When you attached the seam binding at the neckline, was the bottom inside edge not turned under? And lastly, was all the stitching done with the stretch stitch you showed on your machine? Thank you for the terrific video! I'm going to be a first time Grandma this autumn and can't wait to get sewing!!
I don't because I don't want it too bulky at the neck line and because it's knit, you don't have to worry about the raw edge fraying. Congrats on becoming a grandma. :)
I bought this pattern off amazon, Jalie Gymnastics X-Back Leotard Biketard Costume Sewing Pattern 3241 and it fit my daughter perfectly, didn't have to do any altering, and theres soon many size options
Could you do a tutorial on making a dress shirt onesie? There is a great Free pattern on SewMamaSew website, but I cannot find a single video (I am a visual learner).
I have been wanting to make my baby his Halloween costume as a cat and I have been trying everywhere to find a tutorial and pattern to make a long sleeved onsie for him, do you have a video to make a long sleeved onsie?
Littlecat3100 we don't currently. You can try and alter the sleeve pattern in this one but extending the length and then at the bottom would be the wrist circumference. Blend the edges of the wrist line to the existing side seam and that should get you most of the way, just realize that my sleeve is also including the hem allowance at the bottom
I know the sides are seen using a 1/4 inch seam allowance, but what seam allowance did you use on the neck and crotch? It looks like a 5/8 inch seam allowance. Also, a ballpoint sewing needle or one specifically recommended for kn
I just found this, and it looks great! My granddaughter is 6 weeks old, what exactly is considered a "newborn"? I'm guessing 0-3 months? I can probably alter the pattern, if need be, for a little larger but would hate to make one, to find out she has already outgrown it. Thanks!
I really love your videos and they're super helpful. I wonder what kind of stitching do you use for the arms? is it zig-zag stitch or just regular straight stitch?

pianoluvr100 I guess it depends on what kind of a sale you can get. With mass production though, it's usually cheaper to buy a onesie but if you want to choose your own fabric and just love to sew, than sewing is the way to go.
+Angélica G sorry about that. the width is 1 5/8" (1.625) and the length is just the length of your fabric. So my fabric was 60", which means my strip was 1 5/8"X60"
This is the exact fabric I used: www.joann.com/doodles-collection-interlock-outdoors-pink-/12488805.html#prefn1=isProject&prefn2=refinementColor&prefv2=Pinks&prefv1=false&start=15 Maybe if you search for interlock fabric you can find something similar
I just wanted to know wear did you purchase the fabric for the oneise? I know it's a knit but I can't find the child design like you did. P.S. learning so much from you!
Can I use snaps that are used for cloth diapers? How would I go about making the bottom flap longer to add a second or third row of snaps? (( cloth gets fluffy and his onsies don't fit over certain diapers ))
I would imagine that it's ok to use those snaps. At the point with the flap meets the bottom of the onesie, I would cut across and then spread the two pieces for the distance that you want to increase. Then tape some paper in between and redraw a line to blend the new piece in with the original pieces. good luck! :)
Where is a good place to find cute fabric like this?? Ive been looking around but i can not find a knit in a cute pattern. And suggestions on where to find good knits would be greatly appreciated!! :)

it's no problem. If you go to the fabric store, ask an employee where their nursery knit is. At JoAnn's they have a lot of cute options to choose from and it should work perfectly. :)
I like your tutorial! So awesome! I'm going to make the first baby onesie! But how can I get onesie pattern for 6 months old and 1 year old?? Can I get them from your website ?? I am already a free member ! But I couldn't find patterns for bigger sizes
Gabriela Roa you can but you'll have to fool with your enlarging feature on your printer. I can't really say to enlarge by 25% for one particular size because I haven't done it this way. I would get the chest circumference and body length and use that as your guide to getting the pattern the right size. For chest you would add front and back pattern chest width together and double it and that will give you the current total circumference. Also, it's a good idea to add a little extra wiggle room for ease and growth.
+Rahila Abbas There is a link in the description to the page where the pattern is located. It is directly below the video and to the right. You have to be a registered member of the site and logged in to download it.
Has anyone put this on an actual newborn? i love the pattern and printed it out but when I compare it to a newborn onesie from the store it is much larger. What size baby does it fit? Hey, can you make a tutorial where you are sewing a infant or newborn lace, ruffles romper?
Would you have a video installing plastic snaps ?
This was a super easy tut thank you def gonna try this for my baby girl
does the pattern accounts for one or quater inch seam allowance or do we need to add this all the way around?
Thanks for the pattern and the tutorial. Pls how can I get the fabric for making this baby wear.
if you go to the fabric store, you should be able to find a section of knit fabric. I found mine in the nursery knit fabric section.
An absolutely brilliant tutorial, I just need to work out how to make a bigger size for my toddler.
thanks for watching! :)

yes, you can do it. Just take your time. You can use either a stretch or ballpoint needle in your sewing machine

I would say 0-3 months too
Just checking that 1/4" seams for sleeves and sides of onesie are done in zig zag stitch and not straight stitch. True? Thanks.
Thanks!
yes, it's just to give the seam a little bit more stretch
So cute! Thank you!
I really love your videos and they're super helpful.
I wonder what kind of stitching do you use for the arms? is it zig-zag stitch or just regular straight stitch?
+love kira (lovekira96) I think I mostly just did zig zag stitches for this project because I wanted the seams to be stretchy :)
Ok thank you for your fast reply.
You're awesome!!
What the name of the fabric again how many yard I going need to make one like that and what supplies iam going need
dianne20010 It's a nursery interlock knit. If you get a yard, you can get a couple onesies out of it.
What 1 yard will do or what

Should the binding be done with a straight stitch or a zigzag?
I use a zig zag
What level of skill should I have before persuing this? I am just learning but I'm hoping to make my son a onesie before he's born May 4th
I think a beginner could do it. Just take your time :) good luck!

What kind paper you use to download your pattern piece to
dianne20010 You can just print it out on regular printer paper
Where can I go and print it out at I try but it would not let me
How long are the binders? You dont say what length after you cut each piece to bind to necklines and bottom
When adding the sleeves and sewing the front and back pieces together, is it the zig-zag stitch again? Or are the edges raw on the inside?
You can do a zig zag stitch. It just means that those seams will also be stretchy as well.
