  • In this video I review the 4 main races starting ships, weapons, costs, civics to determine what advantages and disadvantages each race has. I then combat test the Federation starting ships, Miranda Class against the Klingons, Cardassians and Romulans, to see who comes out on top. I show lessons learnt and what you need to do against each race early in the game to get the advantage in fleet combat.

    It makes sense to me that the BoP and Miranda build times are as they are because I think the designers are using it to differentiate the four major powers. It would make sense that the Empire of 2350 wouldn’t be great at ship construction given how long they emphasized the purely marital part of their culture

      Yes, I have just seen in the Patch notes 1.02 that the BoP gets a slot for cloaking device now, that makes sense.

      A few bugs with combat computers, think they just fixed a few of them in the patch just out. Different combat computers will give you different engagement ranges and what they target first. When they work correctly that is.

    Good analysis as usual. Would like to see a repeat of the 10X Fed vs 10X Rom when Roms have cloak. I'm not sure this will make a marked difference. It would also be interesting to see if the gap between the races starts to close on the next size up.

      @@tachyonlance1969 All. your videos on STI are good. There are still mechanics which are mysterious to me. What is exactly does "ship tracking" do? No tooltip. How does the Romulan tradition which allows you to steal a pop unit on a sucessfull spy mission work or not work? How exactly do claims work in both wars of humiliation and conquest? Is there a way you can use spies to delay the assimilation of a minor by Federation? (You cannot smear campaign or frame a minor). What are the best ways to raise stability? etc. etc.

    • @tachyonlance1969
      @tachyonlance1969  8 місяців тому +1

      Good points you raise. Tracking helps to increase the chance of hitting a target, helps to counter evasion. So, ships with higher evasion like small fast ships, you would want weapons that have a higher tracking to be able to hit them. Accuracy also helps with this as well. I know from Stellaris that when you claim systems and fight a war of humiliation, if you have control of the claimed systems when you win the war, those systems will come to you and vis versa if you lose a war of humiliation and they own some claimed systems of yours. So, you can lose or gain territory during a war of humiliation. Some good points I should include in some new videos I will make.

    Klingons feel to me much stronger early on because they can stack so many early combat bonuses and their admirals are better. On top of that they are incentivized to build fleets because of their early mission tree missions. In my first game the Feds made a defensive pact with the Romulans and I wound up fighting both in an early war with just frigates an destroyed both of them at the same time quite easily

    I honestly think the ships need a bit of a balance pass... The Miranda's having 4 weapon slots gives them a serious advantage, and the Klingons & Romulans not getting any S slots and fewer defenses really hurts them. I've found in my first few playthroughs the AI really likes missile-type weapons, so with enough point defense your fleets come through unscratched. I wonder if the Cardassians would fare as well vs the Mirandas if the Mirandas had 2 PD mounted each.
    The Miranda's slot superiority is also a factor later on when Defiants become available... With the fewer weapon slots I don't see much point to the Defiants. Beyond that, I'm not a fan of how they time-gated the ship classes being available. The long intervals between classes aren't reasonable.
    Finally, audio was much better this video, I didn't have to crank my devices volume settings to max just to hear your commentary!

      Yes, I agree bit unbalanced at present. I do like how each race is different though.
      Ships being time gated is an issue I raised previously, don't like it. Hopefully they change it. Should be player choice if they need, the new ship type or larger stations and so on.

    I really like the differences between the civs in their ships (obv with a bit of balance needed).
    Can anyone tell me if infinite happens to have difference in the tech trees between civs in a military sense? One thing I find lacking in stellaris is exactly that. It would be really nice to have civ bonuses like 'increased accuracy on all ballistic weapons' or 'hull more resistant to S size beam weapons' as well as maybe an endgame one like an extra level of targeting conputer or weapon type that other factions dont get - to flavour how you might design your military.

    • @tachyonlance1969
      @tachyonlance1969  9 місяців тому +2

      Not sure yet on the difference between races in technology, there is some different in traditions I have noticed. I think this is something that will expand over time as it is a very good feature. Something Stellaris lacks, yes you can customize your race, traits, civics and so on to nearly endless variations but a Blue Laser will still do the same damage no matter who you are.

    This vid has convinced me not to bother buying STi. None of this seems in character for TNG Trek, from the power imbalance, Klingons using phasers to too many shops per fleet.
    Feels like a weak skin that isn't really Trek.

    • @tachyonlance1969
      @tachyonlance1969  9 місяців тому

      They have some balancing to do with weapons. Each of the empires has different damage rates for different weapons with the Romulans having the highest damage output. Very powerful first strike but they have weaker hulls and shields, but combined with cloak, you can't see where they move the fleets, they can launch devasting Suprise attacks on your fleets if you're not careful. Like most games these days, will take some time to refine it and become the Star Trek game we all want. I am certainly enjoying playing it though, particularly in multiplayer.

    • @tachyonlance1969

      True, but for game balance they need to give each faction an edge somewhere. They still need to balance out the ships though.
