    Oh wow. I was wondering what those hooks did. I know I have a couple of old school amps I could hook this thing up. I sell vinyl records on Mercari, and I like to know if the records are playable or not. Thank you.

    wondering if I could pick your brain on this topic? I want to pair a vintage Sanyo receiver (1979-has a Phono input and ground) with a vintage Sanyo 1977 (model 1010) turntable. Besides speakers, is there anything else I need to make this set-up work? I am just learning this to get a vintage set-up put together for my husband for a gift. Thanks

      That should be all you need. What you described is the basic 1970's stereo setup. Turntable, Receiver, Speakers. As long as all the components work and all the cables are present you should be good to go.

    Hi, i have jst bought a very old stereogram with a record player and speaker in it. The speaker is very very quiet so i was wondering if u have any advice on how to connect new speakers or how i can amplify the sound. The wires dont look like the ones in this video and are soldered to the mechanism rather than plug ins. No one in my city will do these anymore as theyre too big and I dont quite know what im doing. Any advice?

      Can you tell me more about the system? Make, model number, etc. I may be able to look it up and offer some suggestions.

    How do I hook up my luxman rx102 to my turntable and speakers. Audio technica at-120-usb

    • @mguess
      @mguess  9 місяців тому

      Your Luxman receiver has a phono input on the back of the unit. I would recommend connecting your turntable to the phono input. You should also set the preamp switch on the back of your turntable to "phono" which will disable the internal preamp. You won't need the turntable preamp because the Luxman receiver has one built in.
      Now here is a question for you. Are your speakers powered (internal amplifier) or unpowered?

    I bought a sears solid state turntable, it can also play cassette and 8 tracks. The only issue is I have no idea what speakers I should be using for it and how to connect. Any suggestions? I believe it is a 1970s one. I can't find a manual for it either

    • @mguess
      @mguess  Рік тому +1

      If the unit has an internal amplifier, (contains a volume control) there should be a connection for speakers. Probably any 8 ohm pair of speakers would work. You should be able to pick up a pair at a thrift store fairly cheap.

      @@mguess thank you! It does have a volume control. I purchased some speakers from Amazon and they play sound but there are times it sounds staticy, is that normal or is there anything else that can assist with the audio quality?

    • @mguess
      @mguess  Рік тому +1

      @@pimientopicante3870 If you are getting a staticy or scratchy sound especially when adjusting the volume, the problem is probably dirty volume or tone control potentiometer (pot) . I would recommend cleaning the pots with a good cleaner like Nu-Trol or Deoxit F5. You will have to disassemble the stereo unit to get to the back of the pots, with the unit unplugged of course. Spray the cleaner into the holes on the back of the pots and then twist the knob back and forth many times to clean the contacts.

    Hey, what about a bsr monach ua8? Do you know what plugs are on those? Thanks

    • @mguess
      @mguess  8 місяців тому

      I've never worked on that model but from the pictures I've seen online it may have a mono cartridge. Therefore it may just have 2 wires. I believe that this model was also available with stereo cartridges.

    I seen someone with this same turntable and they just had it hooked up straight to speakers. No amp. How is that possible? I just bought the same one myself and if I can bypass having to buy more equipment, my bank account will thank me. Thanks!

    • @mguess
      @mguess  Рік тому

      I believe what you saw was someone with a relatively modern turntable that included a built in preamp, that was connected to powered speakers. Powered speakers have an amp built into them. With this system you wouldn't need a amplifier and it would make for a compact setup with a small footprint.

      @@mguess So she realized she does have it hooked up to an amp after all. Her ex bf set it up and she doesn’t know much about the set up. I’m planning to do a phono pre amp and powered speakers which is what I think her set up is. Thanks for the reply!

    I'm looking at purchasing a Dual CS552 from the original owner for$100.
    What do you think?

    • @mguess
      @mguess  26 днів тому

      I wasn't able to find a reference to a CS552. Could it be a CS522?
      Anyway, it's hard to determine the value of a vintage turntable without inspecting it. If the turntable is in good shape and been recently serviced, that price would be very good. If the turntable is not in good shape and been sitting in a closet for 30 years, that price may be a bit high.

    Would it be possible to connect a turntable to a record console?

    • @mguess
      @mguess  Рік тому

      It is possible however many older consoles had turntables with crystal or ceramic cartridges which produce a much higher signal voltage than a modern magnetic cartridge. If you just swap a modern turntable into a older console it may not play loud enough. You may need to use a phono preamp like I demonstrated in the video. I hope this answers your question. If not, please leave another comment with more details of what you want to do.
