Another great video Glyn you must be glad to be finished the shearing tough work to do that amount on your own you need a holiday after all that The lambs are looking great the were weighing really good Always enjoyed your videos
Hello there hows things quick question what oil do u put on the handpiece? Tip for next year when you are keeping your lambs put a colour strip inside tags game changer
We have the year they were born their tag, it's just very easy to see when they have the spray on their poll. But ya good idea, It's just standard engine oil we use
Great that John came to visit at such a busy Shearing time to help film. Wish you could have had more of your struggle with the one Sheep trying to Shear it on video. Looks like to put up quite a fight. You must have been in traction the next day after shearing 150 in one day. That is really amazing perseverance. Great job on all the Shearing videos, thanks.
helen- 7 days ago in auckland city library ahh read in old book that the most perfect sheep station/ farm in all human history was Gwavas Station on highway 50 in hawkes bay- new zealand .- A family in 1840 who were half English/ half Indian came too Welligton then in 1854 established Gwavas sheep station .- it statartd as 38 ,000 acres and now 3,000 acres. original woolshed burnt down but hav new one . When ahh told a India lady yesterday about the India connection she did not beleive me, as assumed India not interested in British culture adventures. - Sometime between 1854- 2023 Gwavas Sheep station /farm was judged the most perfect shheep farm in human history according too the library boook. - Anyone out there ever slaved on that station/farm- ??????
Creep feed is expensive but well worth it. Get lambd away earlier at a higher price. Wean them all, when you feeding them lambs will thrive better and makes it easier for weighing and managing them.
Creep depends on your system, amount of good ground available and importantly your soil type/ environment and of course benefit related to cost. I'm here in upland donegal. I lamb outdoors in April. Won't sell a lamb till sep/Oct and in some yrs Dec. I have more ground than sheep! So grass (of varying quailty) isn't my problem. Cheaper for me to allow stock manage ground rather than me topping. That said do both. Enjoy your vids. Look after da. I've missed mine over the last Yr.
Best mineral dose on the market is ovitrace it is a drinch but it is chillated so holds in the rumen ,we used mayo bolas but found them no good since using ovitrace our sheep have improved something mad .
Very nice video, Its good that you guys got at least 20 more lambs than you thought you would. 👍 Glen get some rest from all that sheering . It looks like its takes everything out of you 😉
Cosilcure lamb bolus £60 for 50 boluses, used them the last 2 years , i sell my lambs store avg 37kgs weaned early August born 10th April onwards, dont have the ground to finish them, need all the back end grass for the ewes.
you were asking about Mineral Bolus I recommend ALLSURE bolus We have used them for years We would have different type of land than you here in Roscommon We give the bolus to the ewes before Tupping and again in the Spring two weeks before lambing it has reduced the amount of difficult births The bolus can be got with or without Copper We have only just discovered your Channel Good luck with everything and be careful on the Quad
@@sheepshepherd lambs thrive after cobalt fix bolus and get to 40-45 kilos in 12 weeks.ewes have bolus after scanning and produce strong lambs full of vigour and ewes have quality colostrum.🐑👍used Mayo boluses last 5years.
Before you bolus your yows, have a word with your vet and get a few blood tests done first, that will tell you what you are deficient in. I have used Agrimin smarttrace for the last 4 years with great results, twice a year, once before tupping and when they have lambed...
@@sheepshepherd When i did mine it was about 15 in total, that was one of that years lambs, couple of hoggs from the year before and the rest were shearlings up to 5 shear. The main things we are deficient in is cobalt and selenium, i have tried a few different bolus over the years but always gone back to the Agrimin one, its a big bolus and takes a bit of getting used to getting done but once you have done a few it is grand...
I'll see Noel, Im gonna bring them in sunday and weight them all, I got screwed a few times in the factory the last few years, I'll see how the mart is going also.
We get absolutely nothing, 200 euro I got for all my ewes last year, it would cost me over 3,000 to get people in if I had to pay. It's such a pity for a great product
I used mayo bolus but was disappointed as when i killed some wether hoggs for freezer the bolus was still in the stomach and I understand it should have dissolved within the 6 months. So now i use turbo thrive from man and beast and very happy with the results
@@sheepshepherd they had a bolus every 6 months. The only bolus that i have heard good reports from are cosecur glass bolus but drenching for me works fine now. Most seem to be manufactured in ireland so could be cheaper for you anyway
Batching them up matching weights bringing on the smaller ones would be a good decision get them going every week will take pressure off the land and the amount of creep there using most up around wicklow don’t wean them straight to the mart no stress on them little weight loss as well get them up on the ramp in the mart your job is done
