@@Anna13Tonks Thats horrible. Most of the comments I see are the opposite, always telling him how slim he's looking and that it looks like he lost weight, etc. I think these comments are harmful too in their own way, but most comments I see about Ethans appearance are usually pretty nice.

It's so tough. There's so many side effects to gaining weight but switching meds is going to have other unfavorable effects as well. Better to be stable mentally I guess
I think he should try BUPROPION!! it’s used as an anti depressant (and for smoking cessation) and doesn’t cause weight gain!! It actually causes weight loss so u need to make sure to eat on it. I think it would be really good for Ethan to try a new med!!

I had to quit Zoloft because of the side effects 💔 hoping I can find something better soon. Sometimes it’s worth quitting a med with bad side effects to find something that really works for you in every way. I can understand the apprehension though

donna definitely had an impact on the monarch butterflies coming back. just based on my own personal experience, when she informed me of what was happening, i told all my friends and we all worked together to plant milkweed in own homes, so 16 separate households in california had milkweed planted just from her words, and probably more since my friends encouraged their family members to do the same. over half the homes saw monarch butterflies visit them, and 2 of my friends in separate households decided to help even further by providing them tents and homes and helping them breed like donna did. that’s all from me listening to donna talk so passionately about the issue, imagine how many other viewers did the same. thank you donnarch 💖🦋

Obviously it’s great that 16 houses planted milkweed, but that’s essentially a drop in the ocean. Donna did not cause the monarch resurgence, however enticing that narrative may be.
Just be careful about when you are growing milkweed! If you grow it during the wrong time of year, the monarchs may stay longer in the wrong place instead of following their migration patterns, leading to their larva not surviving the winter. I watched a video on it from a monarch conservatory! Look into it 🤗 and thanks to you and your friends for what you're doing!
I live in Australia and Donna inspired me to grow milkweed and spawn Monarchs! My Cousin surprised me with various milkweed seeds and it's brought us even closer together! Thank youuuu ♥

the comments about weight were really hard to listen to. some people were just raised on that, i don't super blame Donna, and i appreciate the Ethan pushed back. it's just a generational trauma that needs to end. questioning her like that was so smart, and honestly made the situation feel so much better.

but i fundamentally disagree with the idea that pointing out peoples unhealthy weight is a “generational trauma that needs to end”. should we stop going to doctors too if theyre going to tell us our lifestyles are unhealthy? fuck the dentist cuz theyre gonna tell us to brush our teeth more? i want a family that points out you have gained weight and should try and make healthier decisions, not one who quietly ignores and/or even enables it.

This is the first time I've ever disagreed with Donna. As someone who has been trying to get an anti depressant to "work for me" for 2 years now, I get so much hope from hearing Ethan talk about how is medication helps him. He shouldn't try to find another medication Just because this one causes him to gain weight. Having a small waistline isn't worth wanting to be "unalive".

@May Hummel this was pre-recorded so they also could’ve edited things out if Ethan was uncomfortable. I think she’s worried because she knows it’s not the norm for him but a reaction to the medication, and mothers do worry about that stuff. He’s got health concerns around it too as mentioned but thinks the medication he’s on is worth the physical side effects regardless, which makes sense. But hoping he’ll be able to lose a bit of weight, especially when that’s a goal Ethan has already been talking publicly about for a while, seems fine to me

As a Mexican myself, I loved how they recognized the greatness of our people and how beautiful and amazing our country is, it is truly a tragedy what corruption and organized crime can do to a country, I felt so bad when Ethan said they would never go back to Mexico because of what happened to them, but holy shit, it is so understandable, it's just sad. Hope they come back someday and enjoy our precious country.

I haven't finished the entire video yet, but I sorta feel bad for Ethan when his parents comment on his appearance/weight.. you can tell it hurts him, I also struggle with mental illnesses and am on 5 diff medications a day and they greatly have messed with my appetite and made me drastically lose/gain weight...... it makes your mental health even worse because then that's another thing to worry/be upset about.. it's extremely hard all together.. I think today is when I realized this podcast truly feels like coming home to relatives I never knew I needed. My family makes latkes every year, we always have such a grand time with them like this, and this was so wholesome and cozy to watch. Ethan's mom is beautiful and not just for her age.
Donna has some calming abilities, every time I see her my anxiety goes away. She is like a mother or grandmother who always knows what to do.

I don’t think Ethan is necessarily unhealthy just because he’s fat. Mental health is just as important as physical health but I haven’t heard much evidence that he’s even that physically unhealthy.
exactly. people don’t understand that just because someone’s body presents a certain way, it doesn’t mean they aren’t taking care of themselves to the best of their ability. i said in another comment, as an example, i take meds like ethan and also have PCOS which causes weight gain and makes it hard to lose. i can exercise and eat balanced but i’ll still never be “thin” or might even stay the exact same weight. the only thing that rhetoric does is cause eating disorders and poor self esteem, the exact opposite of helping. (sorry if i went on a rant, im just passionate ha)

I feel so bad for Ethan. I’m a donarch and I love hila and everyone but how they all keep going at him for his weight is sad. He says all the time he wishes he could lose weight but the medicine really does make it hard, he looks dapper regardless! Ethan handled those conversations really well but he shouldn’t have to hear people tell him stuff he already knows.

I’ve been doing the butterfly project for a few years before this was even mentioned in the show. Donna has brought so much education and light to California with this but SO many others have been trying way before hand. Thank you DONNA for giving everyone else credit along with yourself.
